Just finished teaching this to a young man, which goes against what his school was teaching. He came to me because he’s injured from it. Found this video as a second voice. Good stuff

Outstanding, Nick. I've seen guys do this with an overhand grip and with an underhand grip, but nobody else (that I've seen) has pointed out how those two variations affect shoulder rotation -- where internal rotation, of course, is potentially dangerous to the shoulders, and external rotation keeps you safer. UPDATE: As I try the variations, I've come to think that you actually can do the overhand grip safely as long as you turn your thumbs up, not down, which is what you were really warning against.

What if the cable is coming from above you instead of sideways? Do you just pull it away from the base more so it is more horizontal?

would a hyper-extension past the head hurt the rotator cuffs?

That first way you showed hurts like heck. Your way was what I intuitively figured out through experimentation, but I still wanted more input from the pros. Of course, yours is the best tutorial of all. Thanks, Nick

Doing it this way feels like I have less range of motion and it becomes an arm excersize
