For whatever reason, you and other Plastic Surgeons downplay the post-op sensory loss of the facial periphery and the submandibular regions. I'm 3 months post-op and still have profound numbness in these areas. It's distracting and frustrating. I don't consider my facelift and platysmaplasty a success because of the persistent numbness and submental induration. My experience has been a nightmare. I cannot imagine that I'm the only person who's experienced this degree of distress. Don't you have any useful information regarding this post-op complication?

I am sad to hear that you have had a bad experience with your facelift with another plastic surgeon. I tell all my patients to expect numbness in the skin where we elevate the flaps for a minimum of 3 months. Sometimes it can take 18 months to get this sensation back. The majority of my patients do get the sensation coming back at around 3-6 months post surgery, however, it can be permanent. This is something we discuss in pre surgery consultations.

Mine took 12 months but the feeling came back by then.

Thanks for this informative video what do you recommend for frontal nerve injury ?

It really depends. Paralysing the muscle on the other side to get symmetry is one option. Dr Beldholm

What skincare products to stop using before a facelift?
@DrBernardBeldholm Жыл бұрын
Every surgeon will have their own preference so it is important to speak with your surgeon prior to the procedure. We would want our patients to cease vitamin A and any actives around 2-3 days before.

hello, please help! I just had an facelift and I am happy with the results so far, BUT one ear lobe is almost...pixied. The other one looks fine! Basically, the one damaged looks smaller, but not fully pulled down. How long I must wait for a revision? I will also ask my surgeon but I would like to know your opinion. Thank you!

You mentioned smoking. I stopped smoking a traditional cigarette last year thanks JUUL I don’t vape much maybe equivalent to 5-6 cigarettes a day. How might this effect my surgery should I choose to have a lower neck surgery? I absolutely would not vape after the surgery and just be completely weaned off this bad habit. Thoughts? I don’t want my skin to die off and I heard that can happen if you smoke cigarettes. I’m pretty certain there a many celebrities who smoke regular cigarettes, had the facelift and just got lucky.

Smoking is a big issue for facelifts - you will be at a higher risk. However, if you have stopped smoking then the risk should dramatically reduce. But note that it will never be as low as for someone that has never smoked.

With the MACS facelift I have seen videos where it is done with a local anaesthetic but you do yours with a general? Is there a reason for that? I am nervous about having a general as A procedure I had in the past under one dropped my blood pressure dangerously low but fortunately came out ok that time. Is it possible to do it under a local?
@DrBernardBeldholm4 жыл бұрын
The regulations in NSW changed in the 2017. I used to do most of my facelifts under local anaesthetic. However now all cosmetic surgery has to be done in Private Hospital. As we have a dedicated anaesthetist for all procedures it is safer and more comfortable to have your operation done under a general anaesthetic. There are many different techniques that the anaesthetist can use. Sincerely Dr Beldholm

Local anesthesia is one big reason I want the MACS. I nearly died from general years ago, too; blood pressure plummeted. I'm glad I'm not in NSW!

Can a facelift cause thromboembolism or fat embolism. Can a facelift lead to death
@DrBernardBeldholm4 жыл бұрын
Martin, Thanks for question. Any surgery can cause DVT and death. The risk increases with the length and extent of surgery. Facelift surgery is usually considered low risk. However there is always a risk of serious complications. Dr Beldholm
