I’ve been recovering chair pads for years but when I decided to switch from fabric to a leather look vinyl (because of grand kids), I happened upon your KZbin channel. Using a hair dryer is a clever trick to softening and reducing pleats….thanks so much for the tutorial!!!!

Thanks to this video I've just completed reupholstering 6 dining room chairs. The seat foam was so old that it had become powdery so I renewed that too by following what was already there: a 12" square of foam with a larger piece on top covering the whole seat, giving a very good dome! I then followed this video's lead by adding in the layer of Dacron before covering with the vinyl leather effect fabric. The resulting seats are very comfortable. Not having a fancy air staple gun I used a manual office staple gun! A bit more work but does the job! Any staples that don't go fully in can be finished off with a few taps from a small hammer. One thing I noted is that this video's technique of running your hand up over the seat to help stretch the material is absolutely vital to getting the corners right. If you don't have enough tension in the sides, you'll not be able to pull the corners tight. Anyway, thanks for a superb video!

Thank for showing these step by step progress, I had the hardest time reupholstering my office chair that I had bought here in the US but, made in china. Great small office for my music studio room which is 7' x 9' room so I couldn't fit a regular gaming chair like I would had love too. So the chair was super hard like if, I was sitting on a brick my butt would hurt after 10 min of sitting on it. anyways I did however reupholstered the seat with a 4" foam couching that also has a 2" memory foam on it too. I didn't know about the Dacron or about the hair dryer that would have made a big difference in the look of my chair. However I still have to reupholster our dining set chair pad that are exactly like the ones you did, so I should be doing a better job on them. Thank you again!! Great Video.

Thanks for your great video. I've watched it 3 times now and I feel like I'm ready to do our 6 chairs. Not vinyl. A nice cloth with a pattern that I will have to be very careful to get straight lines and no bulges. I started one but had to take it all back off to try again. That's why I've just watched the video another time. I see where I went wrong. Back to work.

Hi Ray! Sorry for the delayed response - how have you been getting on with your chairs?
@rayscrafield21063 жыл бұрын
@@faceliftinteriors Thanks for asking. I've done 6 dining chairs that had an easy pattern and no problems. But then I got into doing an arm side chair that has a cushioned seat in that it has webbing running in both directions. I decided to replace that webbing and bought a tool to tension it with. That went well but when it came to the actual upholstery on the seat, my wife chose a striped pattern with narrow stripes and I had a dickens of a time to get them straight. I think I redid that seat at least 4 times until I got it to what I thought looked right. Thanks again for your tutorial video. I learned a lot from it.

Hi from the USA I am reupholstering chair pads. They have hogs hair/horse hair for padding. I am a beginner…. I have watched your video many times. The chair was originally covered in a green vinyl. Someone went over it with a tan vinyl. I removed all the staples but am now not sure what to do. Should I keep the original stuffing and vinyl and just cover it in new vinyl ?
@faceliftinteriors2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I wouldn’t recommend covering over the top of old vinyl but it can be done. It just has to be pulled really tight, which is hard to do as the new vinyl will slip on the old vinyl. Horse hair can be replaced with foam - however the traditional upholsterers wouldn’t be happy but that is also an option if you don’t want to replace the hair. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

@faceliftinteriors2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Most upholstery guns usually need between 70-100psi otherwise the staples struggle to go into the wood. If you find it’s too much - you can always pull the gun back a bit.

@faceliftinteriors3 жыл бұрын
Hi Heather! Well done for doing your first recover! You can get upholstery foam from any upholstery suppliers (you should be able to find some online) or alternatively you could have a look on eBay etc. For dining seat pads I would suggest 2 inch white foam. Once you pull the fabric down tight, it will dome the foam anyway so no need to mould it. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻
