Omg I so happy you made this, I just brought this and was super curious about how they would work on doll repaints.

Yup 😂 Thank you!! I actually get a lot of offers, but I made a rule for myself when the first one came in that I'd only accept if I genuinely thought whatever was offered would be beneficial for the people who watch my videos. Since I see so many questions about art supplies and doing faceups on a budget, this seemed like a good fit. After getting to use them, I really do feel like they're good quality supplies. I'm looking forward to using them on my resin practice head now. And artwork. And other things. Good art supplies are inspiring. XD

incredible repaint. WOW. I just got my 1st can of mr. super clear, and I am so ready to get started on a repaint but unfortunately my state (TN) is always humid and hot at this time of year so I haven't gotten started yet. O.O I can't waittttt. :O
@LomisPlayground4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm in TN too! I know the struggle. The good news is you can get around the humidity if you have a hair dryer. Spray outside, but then use the hair dryer to cure the sealant and it'll turn out fabulous no matter how humid it is. Works every time!

I bought faber castell goldfaber aqua watercolor pencils for barbie repaints and i used mr super clear matt to seal first, I'm a new repainter but they show up very light, if i rub too hard it scrached the sealer. So do i just go light handed and layer? Or did i buy the wrong pencils?
@LomisPlayground5 жыл бұрын
That's very normal for watercolor pencils, especially those with a firmer core like Faber Castell. The harder the lead, the more layers it will take to build up color. I recommend just using a lot of layers and a light hand.
@LittleCraftyKitty5 жыл бұрын
@@LomisPlayground Thank you so much for the tip, I thought it was the wrong pencils & got worried I needed to buy new ones. I didn't realize till after buying them that fabar castell had another type of watercolor pencils, I just got the only ones hobby lobby had in stock of the brand & I don't really know the difference in the 2 since I'm so new to this world of repaints lol I did 2 or 3 light layers of mr super clear aswell as a base. I'll definitely try the layering tip, that's really helpful 💝 thank you again for your kindness :)
@LittleCraftyKitty5 жыл бұрын
Also do you add a seal inbetween layers? I've seen some do that but wasn't sure, I've not done that myself.
@LomisPlayground5 жыл бұрын
@@LittleCraftyKitty Yes, I do seal between layers :D You can blend multiple colors together when you use them on the same layer, but eventually the sealant will be "full" and you'll need to add another coat before it will take more color from the pencils.

I'd suggest using chalk pastels to dust on color wherever you need it, like applying blush :)

Thank you for this great repaint demo - your work is amazing. Can i ask about the brushes you used near the end? They look a lot finer than the 10/0 and 20/0 I got from the art store (not to mention they both "split" on me after only two uses).
@LomisPlayground2 жыл бұрын
I have a couple different ones I use--there are ones with a pink handle, which are Winstonia nail art brushes. These are definitely my favorite! They have really long bristles, which is the secret to getting super fine lines. The shorter ones that I use for dotting or covering small areas are Reaper miniature brushes. I occasionally use a few others, but I have a full list of art supplies I use on my site, though, with links to Amazon so you can see them in detail. You can find that here: www.ithilear.com/doll-customization-supply-master-list.html Also, if you have trouble with your bristles splitting, you can retrain them using soap. I use regular bar soap, wet the soap a bit, and then roll the brush against the bar to gather some soap into the bristles. If you run your fingers over it, it'll collect all the bristles together again. Let it sit for a few days, and then you can rinse the soap out and the bristles should be back to normal for a while. Hope that helps!

@@LomisPlayground Thank you so much for your detailed reply! I have just added them to cart - and will definitely try the soap method on my existing brushes. I wish they made fine-tipped markers that don't damage the vinyl but I guess before that happens I will need to learn how to use the pencils / brushes. And thanks for your website link I will definitely read thru the material

Does the paint come off? I just bought a Frankie Stein doll from the drift store and i noticed that she has a patch on her eyebrows that i wanna fix, i dont wanna remove anything thats painted on her face so i just wanna know if the water color pencils smudge out or something
@LomisPlayground4 жыл бұрын
They'll come off if you don't seal it. Typically when doing custom doll painting, you need to add sealant such as Mr. Super Clear spray before putting on the paint, then again after you've done the paint or pencil, to prevent it from coming off.

They are sold in smaller sets.
@LomisPlayground5 жыл бұрын
Not these particular pencils, unfortunately :\ There is a 48 set that is a tier down in grade, and a 24 set that is woodless pencils. This is the only set of expert-level watercolor pencils they have, though.

@@LomisPlayground I can't get the dolls standard paint off of her completely, out of her mouth and corner of her eyes. What can I do?
@LomisPlayground2 жыл бұрын
@@ColdBloodedReaper I have good luck with taking a toothpick and twisting a little cotton from a cotton ball around it, then using that as a fine detail cleaning tool with your paint remover solvent. I have good luck with acetone for those stubborn spots, but I know others prefer non-acetone nail polish remover.
