@@astronemir that’s what I said- I’ve been playing it for years. I don’t really care- I can handle the resulting positions so even if they respond correctly we just end up playing chess…. I don’t play for the traps and cheapos but gladly take them if they play into it. Most of my opponents (2000+) don’t usually fall into them and just try to play defensively

I'm jobava london player too. I'm playing this opening over 4 years. i should say it's a most tricky opening u can ever face it in blitz and Rapid time control. But not very effective in classical chess because of the positional reasons

3...c5 is very strong. Only after e3 cxd4 and then a6. a6 is premature in that position

If knight e5, then white can just play f4 attacking the knight. Then the knight couldn't move because of the pin. I checked the engine and knight e5 actually isn't half bad because of whites weak queen side, but only if you were playing the top engine moves consistently afterwards. Generally it's a bad move so I think that's why Eric didn't consider it.

If he played queen to a5 check then white just plays c3 which blocks it and opens up their queen to defend the knight at the same time.

C3 is the response there. It wins back the pawn, at least for a while, but you're weakening your centre a lot.

Why would Eric play the Jobava against Danya? Are the alternatives worse? I'm an E4 player myself, I don't know much D4 theory at all, but why are you basically forced to play this? In Blitz anything goes right?

Eric is black, white chooses to play the jobava. The only alternative is the Englund gambit which is far worse than going into the jobava at the GM level.
