If anyone is wondering why the clock gets more time at 10:58, Danya mouseslipped and gave away his queen. His opponent was nice enough to start another game from the same position. Props to him and the editor for making this look seamless!

In the early 80's I was a pretty serious club and tournament player as a 1500 C class. Family/Dad life became the replacement and disqualified that lifestyle. I studied books and magazines with no idea how to get good. One time I drew a blitz game with a master by having memorized a great magazine content QGA game. Might have even been the Oregon Chess Federation's magazine? But by once I mean once. All that hopeful work for once. This video, although I still have a half hour left to go, is by far the best coaching I've ever had. Great young man with wonderful communication skills, and a superb teacher. Big fan.

I think I’ve had maybe 1-2 teachers in my life that display such a vast repertoire of sincere pedagogy that at first glance, could be mistaken for salesmanship or flattery…. but the way you are able to give intermittent quizzes that both explain the concepts, test the concepts critically, while being fun and entertaining - it’s extremely impressive! I don’t know who taught you these methods, if some of them come naturally? But it’s certainly a gift for us! Thank you and your Jedi elders for teaching in such an inspired way!

Nice comment. I imagine his methods come from a lifetime of playing a game that he is passionate about. The way he is describing moves is how Grandmasters think in a fraction of the time it takes to explain them, but his love for the game and passion to pass on his knowledge is how he teaches so effectively.

Best format for me to learn how chess GMs think like and how to adopt the same way of looking at a position. It's a 15 min rapid game, so quick, but slower than blitz where the teacher cannot simply go into detail on every move. The explanations are really great and clear. Thanks Daniel! Keep it going pls...

Consider the difference between "type I and type II error" vs "false positive and false negative". Discussion (and maybe recall?) is much harder when just labeling kinds with numbers. Whereas, say, 'collinear move' does need to be explained, it's easy to recall once it has been explained. Perhaps "Physical prophylaxis" vs "Effective Prophylaxis" (physically prevent the threat, vs prevent the effect?) would be easier to recall.

at 18:48, it can be argued that Qa5 would benefit black by baiting c4, as white tries to exploit the x-ray from the bishop. The queen could easily retreat back to c7, and as opposed to d6. The end result would be a safer queen behind the knight and the black bishop on g7 is no longer biting on granite.

45:15 ...Qe5+ does not, as stated, force g3. White can play f4 instead, when the e.p. capture with check fails as the BQ can be captured by the WQ. Granted, after f4 white still has a crummy position, but not worse than after g3.
