Man I wish that wish that green screen sign was blue, and every time someone brings up the fact that it's blue and not green in the comments, karl just replies with "it is green, we just chroma keyed it to be blue". It would break so many people, it'd be hilarious

My favorite genre of film is the creature/alien/robot rocks up in a small town, building, facility, etc. and it’s up to our characters to keep it from getting to the world at large. Eg. Life, The Thing, Virus, Slither, Tremors. They all follow about the same plot points. Couple people die, characters learn about it, find a weakness, make a plan 50/50 fail or succeed. On a fail, Deus ex machina. Monster is dead/ maybe not if there’s a sequel planned.

Some twin movies that always got my attention was 13th Floor, Existenz and The Matrix. They all used the concept of a fake digital reality (what's real and isn't real) and the conspiracies involved for the core of their story, they all released the same year (around March/April 1999). 13th Floor and The Matrix were handled by the BIG studios (Columbia and Warner Bros respectivly) while Existenz and The Matrix used Star Power (Jude Law and Keanu Reeves) for their leading roles. But unlike many twin movies, there was a clear winner in this competition for the box office with The Matrix taking all the accolades, as, while it was using the same core, it's substance was much more in terms of what it attempted to achieve in cinematography and fight choreography for a Hollywood film. 13th Floor played it very safe, feeling almost like a higher budget made for TV movie with some cool effects thrown in and Existenz just had that British cinema feel to it and is also a bit more like Inception with virtual reality in terms of flow (you'll get what I'm saying about the Inception part if you watch it) but with standard filming and nothing but the premise being anything special (and with 2 competing movies using similar core points in their premise, it pretty much disappeared from sight). Personally, at the end of the day, I enjoy all three movies almost equally, just in different ways and I can see why The Matrix managed to succeed where other twin films usually compare evenly, it was the marketing and the focus on the effects and stunts. The other two films were just overshadowed by it very heavily to the point that some conversations I've had with people is the assumption they released a year or so after The Matrix and were just cheap rip-off movies trying to ride the bandwagon.

Two films I can think of which are incredibly similar in their plot are Cars and Doc Hollywood. Bigshot crashes in a small town and has to repair their damage all the while they're itching to leave and get to their big break. Once there they miss the small town. Endings are quite different as McQueen does both and Benjamin Stone chooses to abandon being a plastic surgeon to be a small town doctor but they are weirdly similar. At least they seemed so to me as a kid

I remember you guys mentioned Edge of Tomorrow in another video, and I remember 14 year old me being confused. I didn't like to Cruse, but the premise of Live Die Repeat was really cool, so I was excited. Suddenly it dropped from my radar and I missed out, but I remember a little later when Edge of Tomorrow started to get advertised and I was all "Oh I guess it is twin movies again." Imagine my shock that it turns out, no, they weren't twin movies, it is the same movie with its title changed and I didn't miss out on it at all. Then I heard it did okay at the box office and I was all "Well if you didn't change the title and make us think they were two different movies we would have paid more attention!"
@FuhqEwe
@FuhqEwe Жыл бұрын
You’re apparently confused. The film was never titled, “Live. Die. Repeat.”, during theatrical release. This was the film’s poster tagline, and didn’t find itself attached to the name until the film was set for home media release. The original film title was actually, “All You Need is Kill”, but this was changed to “Edge of Tomorrow” during the theatrical release.
@alienatedpoet1766
@alienatedpoet1766 Жыл бұрын
@@FuhqEwe No, you're getting things confused. All You Need is Kill is the name of the original light novel. It was removed because of "Kill" in the title. Live Die Repeat was on some of the old marketing material, but Warner Bros changed it again, but settled on it to keep it as the tagline because some people already knew it as Live Die Repeat

@@alienatedpoet1766 it's not at all reductive to say the edge of Tomorrow is literally groundhog's Day for people with ADHD. As far as I'm concerned it's literally a movie that profits off of groundhog's Day and it's something that your father you saw groundhog's Day would take you to go see

Some twin movies I thought were good were Seven Years In Tibet and Kundun. Both released in 1997. Both biopics of the Dalai Lama focusing on his early years. Seven Years In Tibet was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and Kundun was directed by Martin Scorsese. And speaking of Marty, Goodfellas wasn’t the only Henry Hill biopic released in 1990, the other was a comedy with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis and the screenplay for the Steve Martin film, “My Blue Heaven” was even written by Nicholas Pileggi’s wife, Nora Ephron, and of course, Pileggi co-wrote Goodfellas, and apparently a lot of the research for both projects was done in the same sessions.

Interesting addition to the names: Whilst discussing casting and titles, McQueen (or his agent) insisted on having the left hand side so his name would come first. Newman (or his agent) agreed but asked that in return Newman's name would always be slightly higher on the page. Watch the credits roll and see whose name comes up first. Newman (or his agent) for the win.

A villain with a sidekick and an army of one eye minions make a grand plan to return to a status quo. Over the course of the story the villain finds a change of heart as they find someone to care about. Said person would feel betrayed by the villain and leave, leading the villain to complete their grand plan. Eventually the villain would end up battling against a more evil villain dressed in orange after they captured the person the villain cares about, rescuing becoming a hero with the orange villain defeated. Logically it should be bio-pic, but I’ve always pronounced it bi-opic due to having read it long before ever having heard it spoken out loud and now I can’t shake it. It’s similar to drow in D&D; Ive always read/said it as rhyming with crow, because I only ever read it for so long before I ever heard it spoken, but only ever hear it pronounced to rhyme with cow. Persistently hearing it rhymed with cow means sometimes that’s how I read it, but I still primarily rhyme it with crow.

Karl, I have to say, I noticed that there was some time-travel continuity in your videos. The video wherein you show off your brand new Wiglett plush was released AFTER a video where you are playing with it very prominently. Obviously the answer to this is "edit time" because the article for the former was released over a month ago. But still that's a bit of a chuckle to notice.

They discover that not only is the area inhabited by a people they cannot communicate with, but that people has an incredibly rare and valuable (for the explorers) resource. The inhabitants refuse to give them the resource, but one explorer befriends and romances one of the native peoples. This relationship is frowned upon by the natives and hopes to be exploited by the explorers. Tensions rise through misunderstandings until they are on the verge of war until the taboo couple puts themselves between both factions, leading to an ambiguous but uneasy peace.
