The comment about the "I've only seen it written down" is what always keeps me in check when someone pronounces something differently. I just remind myself, "They probably learned it by reading" and that's a good thing. I also thought you were going to point out that all of the franchises you mentioned (and Predator!) also had toy lines, most of which were freaking awesome.

@@hanvandijk7810 as a native English speaker learning Dutch, I love how written Dutch is so similar to spoken Dutch. Loads of exceptions of course, but the exceptions are predominantly either accents or to ease the flow of speech. I bet English has been a nightmare! Here's a trick: English and Dutch have a similar spoken sound. Speak a similar Dutch word in an English accent, and chances are you'll make the connection. Sometimes you have to flip the vowel characters though, as you found out with English eo being pronounced like Dutch oe! Sorry if that's condescending, I'm just excited to be learning a language.

My favorite Alien trivia is that they are canonically responsible for killing most Wildstorm characters. When Warren Ellis took over, he used a crossover event to kill off almost every character he didn’t personally create.

my favourite thing about the demolition man taco bell promotion is that it got localized for other companies in other countries. I rented it once, and "taco bell" was badly dubbed over with "pizza hut", and a pizza hut logo photoshopped over the taco bell signs. the point made in the movie about how bad the society was, was doubled down on by the companies just not getting it

To be fair, to the indo raptor. They were marketing a stealthy murder monster that can eat around 22 adults in a couple hour period without gaining weight because it has a super high metabolism so it heals from gun shots nearly instantly, is nearly if not as smart as the average human, is capable of reaching 70 mph, can track people better than blood hounds, and can climb up buildings. Also as someone who lives in Oklahoma, we or at least anyone I know don't say coke, we say what we actually want which very rarely is coke.

When i was a kid there was literally a soft play place/indoor play area called ramboland in my town. Id never seen the movie but it was all jungle themed and there was a bouncy castle at the top with a big cut out of rambo with his gun. I was so small some other kids bounced me so hard i flew up and smacked into it 😭 its been rebranded now but fond memories childhood memories there. Weird choice for a kids indoor play area theme though 😂

Another thing: the phrase "send the marines" may seem innocuous. However, during the turn of the century, especially around the earlt 20th century, "send the marines!" Became a phrase associated with the banana wars and the us sending the navy and marines to put down worker strikes in latin america and the Caribbean. You can read more about this in the book "gangster for capitalism"

I always thought the part where cartoon Rambo is hanging off of the skids on the bottom of the helicopter was pretty funny. Like hey Rambo, you do know we have empty seats inside the helicopter. You don't have to just dangle from the bottom like that. It's going to be a 2 hour flight. Are you sure you don't want to ride up here with us? No? You're good. Ok. I remember *collecting* Alien action-figure toys as a kid. Granted, I had some very chill parents, so I got to watch the first movie even though I wasn't old enough. The 'sex-stuff' went right over my cute little head, but it *did* scare the shit out of me! As an aside, I gotta say i admire this channel's attittude - swearing, sex and violence, and if the vid gets demonetized, whatever, just trust in the Patrons. Certainly beats all the creators who are just moaning about now 'being allowed' to do this or that, and try to talk circles around 'banned' topics. Nah, KZbin isn't censoring you, antsy advertisers just refuse to give you money if you're insufficiently 'family-friendly'. If you don't care about making bank off your vids, you're free to follow your creativity!

I'd say the main inspiration for the penis head and all Giger's art general was the ancient Egyptian iconography. Especially Was-sceptre which is a symbol of divine power. You can see elongated heads throughout Egyptian culture. but yes it's also a penis which fits with the themes of the movie. It's a shame he isn't embraced by the art world just because he did commercial work.

I watched the Robocop cartoon as a kid! Because I was a fan of the movie. There was no such thing as movies for adults (outside of, y'know, like actual porn) in my family growing up, we just rented whatever my parents wanted to watch and me and my brothers would watch too. Alien is actually the first movie I can remember watching as a tiny kid!

This was my experience growing up in the 90's too. When I was 5 my 2 most watched movies were Bambi and Terminator 2. T2 was actually the first movie I ever watched. I wasn't quite 2 yet, and my parents went to a drive in theatre to see it. I was pretty much allowed to watch any rated R movie as a kid, unless it had gratuitous nudity or overt sexual content. If it were entirely up to my dad I wouldn't even have that restriction either.

The assertion that they never portrayed Xenomorph violence against children is untrue. In the opening scene of Alien Vs Predator 2, a father and young son are both attacked by facehuggers on a hunting trip. Also in the Dark Horse comics, a Xenomorph outbreak fucking ends humanity on earth. Survivors have to evacuate the solar system. I think it’s called Earth War.

The region of the us that’s supposedly refers to all sodas to be coke is supposed to be the south. With that said, I currently live in Alabama, I used to live in Mississippi and I’ve been to several other states in the south and I have never heard any one do this, with the exception of generic cola being called coke as it is essentially off brand coke. We call sodas, “sodas” or “drinks” or by their brand name. That video clip he played is gas lighting lol.

Probably the most fun shameless ad in a movie I've seen recently is the Fiji water bottle in Bullet Train. I think that was done so well. You constantly see the Fiji water bottle used throughout the movie, and you think ok, fine it's a product placement, but no, the product placement actually works with the main theme of the movie and then they show that the Fiji water bottle is actually a character in the story whose destiny led it to participate in every important event in the movie and you actually see its journey up until it finally helps on the main villain's defeat. But at the end of the day the movie basically tells the audience that Fiji water bottles can be used to drug your enemies and throw them at people's faces XD.

As for the line "Alien has always been about sexual violence against men." I don't think that was the case for the first movie at least. It has been said that in the original script all of the characters where depicted as gender neutral so they could cast anyone into any of the rolls. So Kane was not specifically going to be played by a man, and Ripley was not specifically going to be played by a woman.
