Michelle Yeoh technically indirectly pulled my podcasting teacher out of Music Retirement. If she didn’t agree to do Everything Everywhere All at Once, his song wouldn’t have been used in the movie since the movie may not have been made. He loved it since it showed him people still liked and knew his music.

Michelle Yeoh is the GOAT for all her roles. However, the role in Everything, Everywhere all at once was a tour de force and could not have been played by anyone else. It managed to be both outlandish and down to earth, being a crazy visual spectacle, but at its core, a heartwarming family drama.

An interesting example of Asian-male actors in Hollywood is James Hong, who was also in "Everything Everywhere". He was in literally hundreds of movies, mostly in generic bit parts as "Asian Man" and often "Japanese (Vietnamese, Chinese, etc) Soldier". I had begun to recognize him when I was a kid the 1970's because he appeared so often, even though his roles were often minor. Eventually he got some larger roles, but his IMDB list of credits is absolutely massive. He has a lot of talent, but his persistence is absolutely legendary!
@HereBeDragonsYT

I had dinner with James Hong in the mid 90s at an anime convention. My friends and I just happened to get food at the same. It was awesome, and he was very laid back and genuine. I doubt that would happen today. A runner would bring him food in the green room area.

What is also crazy, is that "taxes and laundry" scene is debated and analyzed on many forums on the internet. The delivery meaning, and how it is translated and how it can change the interpretation... EEAAO, is such a good film in that it is a film that cinephiles can go nuts over and is also loved by a general audience.

In some places in the US, at least, a "short stack" is a smaller serving, often 2-3 pancakes stacked on top of each other as opposed to being spread out on the plate or a taller stack of more pancakes.

That conversation about representation that got me thinking, my buddy who is a tried and true actor who flies around the world once a year working with big names only always gets small roles even though other actors want him in and vouch for him but never gets in. He's a aboringinal man of north america that also does VA work on the side but really only gets the stereotypical roles even to this day cause his dark skinned-long haired look. Most get tired of bit parts and stop after awhile, while others are okay with it.

There is this scene in the Wonder Woman film where Diana asks why one of her allies, Sameer, didn't pursue acting since that's what he wanted, and he says "I wanted to be an actor, but I am the wrong color." Most movies don't have much of an impact on me. I've become bitter, jaded and feel like I've seen it all. Then Everything Everywhere All At Once came out and it immediately became one of my favorite movies. With a substantially lower budget, the Daniels did what No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness only dipped their toe in. They fully realized the concept of a multiverse in an extremely creative way and had a climax that I absolutely did not see coming.

On the front of the representation matters. Here is my anecdote. In high school, when I was severely depressed and had suicidal thoughts, one of the few bright spots was reading, and one book that I read had a gay white male character. I felt seen by this character and that if the protagonists could accept him for who he is, then why couldn't I. It elevated my sense of self worth and allowed me to feel less alone. It helped me finally accept that I was gay. I know there are still many issues with representation, especially for those that are LGBTQ+ and PoC that they still do not get hardly any representation let alone positive representation.
