My theory despite not being a big GoT fan is that he was going to end it similarly to the series and now doesn't want to get the flak for not ending the series in a way people will like. But I wouldn't envy anyone finishing a series like that, you can't please everyone

I know other people think the same, and the situation lends itself to believing this... but I think the evidence tells a different story. The last book, A Dance With Dragons, was published months after the premiere of season 1 of GOT, so GRRM was writing throughout the 8 season run of the show. We also know there's a *ton* of stuff from the books that D&D cut from the show that necessarily changed what would have been GRRM's ending - major things. And based on what was in the last few seasons of the show, we got some pretty hard to ignore evidence of how the showrunners handled (poorly) adapting several of the things that GRRM did write, like for example the entire Dorne plot. All of that said, there is that famous Martin quote about the different kinds of writers, architects vs. gardners, and how Martin thinks of himself more of a gardner than an architect, so I'm sure the reception of the last few seasons of the show has affected how the last two books will turn out. But I think the two endings were always going to be different simply because of how long the sixth book has taken to write and how quickly the show overtook the existing source material.

In "Be kind, Rewind" the video store doesn't burn down or anything. Basically something happens to Jack Black that causes him to become Magnetised and when he gets close to the tapes, he basically wipes the contents of every one of them. Then the people who run the store, setup their own type of film called "Sweded" named so because they claimed the films were made in Sweden, when it was just 3 people filming around the town they lived in.

The whole problem with season 8 was the fact that they didn't make the white walkers the final intimate enemy but instead made cersei lannister the big thing. In my opinion the whole ice and fire series was about the fact that man would rather fight between each other to gain a small amount of power than face the real threat

I can relate to Brad on the walking too quickly, which I find hilarious with the height difference between him and Karl. I also speed-walk everywhere, because I was short as a kid and had to walk that fast to keep up with everyone else. I hit the growth spurt and got to normal height, but never changed the walking habit I developed. It doesn't help that I silent step as well, so I'm always sneaking up on people unintentionally from 50m away. As for Martin's typing style, I imagine he also uses the old computer because modern ones would see his heavy-handed use as holding down a key too long and he gets a line of letters that he then has to backspace for (and then deletes past the point he wanted to stop at). Reminds me of the Freaky Friday movie from the 70's, where the mom tries to use an electric typewriter that's sensitive to long presses like that.

One of the best things about how long it's taken Martin to write more, is that the guy who worked as his personal assistant apparently made a bet that he could finish and entire series before Martin finished Winds of Winter. That series was The Expanse, which he wrote alongside another author under the joint pen name James S. A. Corey, which is 9 books long, had the last book published in 2021, and also has six seasons of tv show adaptation. I think he won that bet.

Something i do the inefficient way is when i come up with an idea i create a text document and type it out... it's great in that it takes the least amount of time to open and type, but everything else is just terrible. The formatting is always wrong, no fancy spacings, no spell/grammar checks, no italics or bold. There's literally an option next to it called "rich" text document that solves all that, but the time it takes for the program to open makes me think, "whatever you write here needs to be the final draft." Which scares me off. The simplicity of regular text docs resembles the trouble of artists as well, in that we feel so much more comfortable drawing on scrap paper, but crack open a sketch book and there's a sudden pressure of finality.

the worst habit I can think of is tying my shoelaces wrong. it's hard to explain especially as I could never get how other people would do it when I was very young. I just draw them together in the same way that you would to pull them taught, form two loops, and tie them together in the same way. it works, but it takes a second longer and is probably less secure

I draw photorealism with a regular piece of cheap printer paper and a no.2 pencil that you'd give a child to go to school with. Not selling them atm and drawing is a gift I stumbled on vs trained really hard to do. Trying new materials feels like I don't have the same natural skill so I stick to the wrong way to draw high contrast black and white photorealism lol.

My doing things the stupid way.... when I was younger I taught myself crochet in the days before KZbin so all the books I found taught Right handed. I'm left handed. I didn't realize it was possible to do the patterns backwards with my hook in the other hand. I didn't stick with it for VERY long, just long enough that I could remember basics. Years later I got a job at a call center that didn't allow pen or paper and I was bored between calls and just HAD to find something artistic/creative to do other than MS Paint so I started to crochet again and got pretty good at it. The older woman who sat next to me started to crochet with me and was teaching me how to do certain projects and one day I asked her "how long did it take you to get that fast and how long did it take for your hands to stop cramping?" she was like "ummm it's not supposed to hurt?" She tried to figure out if my grip was bad and all kinds of stuff... then one day she saw me sign my name on a form and practically shouted at me that I was left handed and that's why it was hurting so bad and why I was so slow at crocheting. I tried it left handed, realized it DID feel better and I could go faster.... but because I had learned all my stitches right handed I just couldn't un-learn it and do it backwards.... so I still crochet right handed and it still kinda hurts.

Regarding doing something your own way despite their being better ways. I wrote a macro to highlight duplicate values in excel. Yeah. In my defense this was 15-20 years ago and I felt it would be easier to create the solution myself rather than try to interpret how the people making the software might have solved similar problems or how I could use a combination of built-in functions (that I wasn't even aware of) to get the same result. Probably (definately) not the only time I've done something like this.

Sounds like he uses peck typing, sometimes referred to as hunt and peck typing. It can be very slow indeed, I use it myself on computers, depending on what you are trying to type. I personally find that peck typing shines when you know what you want to type, but falls very short when copying information over from a book or something. Peck typings main weakness is that, unlike touch typing, you have to visually look for the key that you want, but if you have done it for long enough you can peck type, or some variation of it, without looking because you have muscle memory to help you.

I'm a software dev, I type A LOT. Mostly into google, but still ;) I just use built in laptop keyboard. And it's not something fancy. The only thing that matter in the end is that it works and time spent using it - it can be few hours or days, but your hands will adjust. Worst thing was working in the office space and having "random" keyboards available, or having to do things from a particular PC in a particular room...

The write-to-market guys are really irritating. When I'm on a roll, I can write like 8 to 10k words in a day, but when I need to recharge I can go weeks if not longer without writing a damn thing. Write to market might be profitable from an advertising sense, but most of that stuff isn't going to last the test of time, IMO. (This in response to the person who said if you're not writing 2-3k a day, you're not a writer)

IMO George has clearly just lost interest in GoT. It's alarmingly similar to how most of us stop playing certain video games or picking up a particular hobby. you interact with that hobby religiously in the beginning, and then begin to do it less and less until one day you stop altogether. given that the first few books came out at a pretty rapid pace and the time has only increased since then, thats what i get from it.
