Gina Lollobrigida’s Twisted Fate

Humphrey Bogart once claimed that Gina Lollobrigida made “Marilyn Monroe look like Shirley Temple". Somehow, this Italian legend’s life was even crazier than that, with legendary suitors, endless lawsuits, rivalries, battles with tycoons, political ambitions, boy toys, rivalries, and so much more.

Interesting considering her name is mispronounced throughout the whole segment. Also, nothing about her amazing jewels and her selling them for charity. A beautiful and gracious woman who did it her way.

@kevindoherty2940 I know what you mean...President Regan couldn't pronounce nuclear (not "nu-ku-ler"), drove me nuts. He's in charge of it (something that could end the world), and couldn't even pronounce it! Always surprises me that they spend the $ they do - then invalidate the entire video by AI, or mispronouncing the name of the subject. It's either greed, stupidity, ignorance, or arrogance. That's all the time I spend on, "Why?"

One of the few intelligent, independent-minded actresses that refused to be controlled by the studios or go through the required couch-casting in order to have her career advanced. Hughes was a serial predator of young actresses just starting out in the business. He had poor hygiene habits even back then, many of his conquests complained about this, so he wasn't a fun date for most of them despite the luxuries he showered them with.

@ColleenLytle-sq8tx I think it does happen to guys - at least almost as much as to women. Among other areas, don't think there wasn't (isn't?) a casting couch for men? The problem is those at the top made it by being predators - in every sense. And they are too vicious and devious to ever be destroyed for good. Unless attacked (where there's no choice) it's far better to give up dreams of stardom and go be a clerk somewhere...'What does it profit a man to gain the world but to lose his soul?'

I disagree, it was her money and she should have been able to do with it however she wished whether that's throwing it away or not! At the end of the day the son was not looking after her (because she wanted to lavish the young man with gifts) but was ensuring his own inheritence which is not a "birthright" although most people don't seem to realise this.

When foreign (to America) actors are involved, there's always a controversy over pronunciation. People, think about it. There will, of course, always be two different pronunciations -- the American version and, in this case, the Italian version. The narrator used both. In the first instance of her using Gina's last name was correct, according to American standards. For the rest of the video, she pronounced it as Italians do. Italians (almost) always enunciate the second last syllable of almost any name or word. So she is correct in using that Italian pronunciation. Not a BFD. 😅
