I don't mind the removal of city flavour from battle formations, to be honest. CoS is the supreme 'your guys' faction, and having crunch tied to the existing cities limited this a bit. It also lets you field armies which are against the stereotype for each city but almost certainly exist in lore (a cavalry regiment from the Greywater Fastness, or an artillery company from Hammerhal Ghyra, for instance) without having the awkward mismatch between colour scheme and subfaction rules.

Glad to see the Fusil-Major finally being given a purpose. I’m pretty new to AoS and Cities are my first army, but the FM just did not seem to have any advantage over other hero units. I’ll take a markerlight for gunlines over the weird elite-unit sniper he was prior.

the Hold the Line Order, have a great improvement, comparing to the "old" one... because you can use it when needed, in both turns, and not decide at the beginning of your turn, to utilize in the enemy turn

I am quite excited to play some cities after grabbing the army box at the start of the year. I do hope that the fact aelves and duardin feel a little less excluded via battle traits means they get interesting profiles and hopefully updated models (plus I wish we had new wanderers but not beting on it) I am wondering if the other formations focus on infantry, cavalry then finally a possible zealous holy battle formation. We've already seen in Dawnbringers that the other half of the Crusade was very zealous with Zenestra leading so be interesting to see if there is a more flaggelant/ priest themed army.

If I'm honest, I must say that I like how this whole 4th edition tastes: simple, streamlined, modular, fast, furious, spicy, and so narrative! My imagination jumps up and down thinking about how evocative all these +1 to add, all these dice to roll are, and how the stories that comes out of it are unique and stimulating.

Honestly i think going to formations instead of cities for subfactions is great narratively because you can actually come up with your own city narratively which is what i think the dawnbringer crusades should turn cities into is "build your own city" narratively unless you just really like a certain city in the lore.

Im not a fan of the battle formation they showed off tbh. Getting to setup in fortified is nice for the units that care about it , but I feel most games on turn one dont "need" to be very killy. If your opponent sees you have taken this, they can just choose not to rush in and try and kill you. That might be useful, but most of the time on turn one, unless your playing a very skewed list, you walk up to points and get ready to setup for the best turn 2/3 you can. Maybe AOS 4th will be very differnt depending on the maps we get, but Im holding out for some better battle formations for COS.

They tease the other Battle Formations in article (early -1 to be Hit, early Move bonus, & upgrades weapons) "Enemy forces often fail to find purchase on a well-prepared Fortress City, as the troops rank up and rebuff incoming onslaughts, subtracting 1 from hit rolls. Dawnbringer Crusades still forge into the bleak and nightmarish wilds, their relentless vigour granting them a movement boost in the early battle, while other Battle Formations make great use of the weapons supplied to them by the Ironweld Engineers or the puissant sorcerers of the Collegiate Arcane."

A Two For Tuesday from Rob makes me happy. I invested in this army too to make the mercenary army I wanted to make in WHFB 8th edition that I couldn’t afford. I hope the cannon gets buffed and the fusiliers aren’t nerfed into the ground. 20:38 oh I disagree, I think you need to tell us 😂😂

The problem with the steelhelm consecrate is you need to already control the objective before you use the ability. This means the only way you can consecrate something turn 1 is if it is in your starting area or if you have a pregame move. The "not contested by any enemy models" requirement on top of that is really restrictive too. All of that plus the 3+ roll on top meant in aos 3 i almost never successfully consecrated an objective.

Am I right in thinking the Consecrate ability wouldn't quite be as simple as you described? The ability says 'an objective you control' and control would only be decided at the end of turns, so you wouldn't be able to move the Steelhelms onto an empty objective turn 1 and then consecrate it immediately, it would have to wait for a turn.

In aos 3 control is also decided at the beginning of the game, if 4 is the same you can deploy them on objectives and consacrate turn 1 before movment, move on other objective, consacrate them next turn.

I’m optimistic, hoping for more unity and not segregation. Would really like the hydra to be better costed this go around. Curious if they will entirely drop the 1:4. Fingers crossed for a small second wave of units too. From the sound of how 4th will be I can potentially keep my “AoS Araby” stuff in AoS and lean more into the theme of magic/ summoned elementals.

I think that, rules as writen in this article, you could stack Orders on a single unit? So if you have 6 heroes all scream at a Steelhelm unit it could get +6 attacks.

Hi Rob, thank you for the faction focus. Have I misunderstood Vedra's ability, because I interpret it as if she targets a human unit with the movement order, another unit moves, and if she selects another human unit as the bonus target, then a fourth unit gets the bonus move?

It's good that orders are for everyone from now, but tbh I don't like possibility of soupy lists we are going to see, coz we already can assume that if Tahlia has her orders that need only CoS keyword, and not human only, then you will be able to pick best units of each race to minmax. I really hope that we will not wait for the book for to long, and it will be human only book, coz I don't mind elves or dwarf in it, just don't want to buy old world stuff just because they will be better than my new shiny models :v

I'd like to see how to map the new Cities of Sigmar models to Old World Empire units. Does anything work other than swordmen and knights? (all my knowledge of the Old World comes from Total War)

Removing sub factions and cities from formations will be good in the long run. Just like 40k 10th, it allows you to build a list and paint it how ever you like with zero pressure internally nor externally to adhere to the lore, and if you are a big lore head you can easily link the sub faction that corrosponds with the battle formation play style. It also means that they can add, remove and change battle formations without having to justify it lore wise.

I’m surprised, actually shocked, that the Dwarfs are still in the faction. How will they segregate sales between AoS and TOW? I sold some of my derpy old metal dwarfs and am currently painting up Dispossessed Hammerers, Iron Breakers and Iron Drakes.

With Tahlia if you use the 3" move order on 2 human units she can target another 2 units as well right?

Paralyzing venom can be used if you charged because of counter charge. As long as your opponents unit is a monster. With twin-tailed comet cast on her, she has an incredibly large monster counter range.

There are for sure better games in term of game mechanics and GW does screw up the game to make more money with a regular cycle, that said they are still around while many games aren't and is still the most played wargame so your investment is strangely stronger in GW than other games...

@@jurikarakolev3777 No, it won’t be for quite a while; probably not even this year. 4th will get released next month then the first two battletomes will be Stormcast & Skaven 3ish months later. After that it’s anyone’s guess, but it will likely be a destruction & death tome.
