Professor RobBob, this is a powerful video/lecture on Factoring Polynomials by Grouping. Factoring by Grouping is much simpler than the old fashion of trial-and-error methods. If a student is really good at factoring, then he/she can use the trial-and-error methods.

The first two terms is a difference of squares and the last two terms both have a factor of b. So you could write (2c+a)(2c-a)+b(2a-b)

I changed the order of the terms to 6x³+6x and -7x²+7 and then factored like this 6x(x²+1) and 7(-x²+1) (where I divided by 6x in the first factor and for 7 in the second factor) and I got the exactly right answer! Is it coincidence or the method is correct? Thanks, you changed my mathematics life, greetings from Brazil.
@profrobbob
@profrobbob 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can change the order of the terms before factoring by grouping:D Except you copied the problem incorrectly from the video, it is 6x³+6x and -7x²-7 and you have 6x(x²+1) and -7(x²+1) for your next line of work. Thank you very much for choosing to watch my math lessons and your kind words... from Florida:)

I hope you don't mind a question! On 6x^3-7x^2+6x-7, can you rearrange the terms? I am asking because if we pair 6x^3+6x and then -7x^2-7, It's much easier to find a common factor. Is it allowed? I am getting the same solution in the end, but I wanted to make sure! :) Thank you! Maria.
@profrobbob
@profrobbob 10 жыл бұрын
Yes you can reorder the terms before factoring by grouping. I set up that problem to show that at times you will need to think about factoring out a 1 to finish the factoring by grouping. You are welcome! Glad I can help.

@profrobbob
@profrobbob 9 жыл бұрын
+‫هاجر الهاجر‬‎ You can square root both sides. Of course square rooting a negative number is going to give you an imaginary value. The square root of -3 is SQRT(3)i, and then you add three to both sides and then divide by 5.

Hey can someone help me with this real quick. If the problem is x^2 - y^2 - 4y - 4 (x squared minus y squared minus four y minus four) can I group together the y squared and the four y and then he x squared and the negative four? I feel like that breaks some of the rules of math but I don't really know what else to do with this problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

at 9:12 you say you want them to be "positive". Why? When do you know when to have a minus sign or positive sign there?
@profrobbob
@profrobbob 8 жыл бұрын
+Shahin Sateei When factoring by grouping, if it factors by grouping, you have to match the expressions in the parenthesis. Since we already have 2x+5, we need that again from the last two terms of -2x-5 so we factor out a negative one.

ProfRobBob Awesome videos man! They have really been helping me through this factoring stuff, and soon to be radian stuff. having trouble though with my with a lesson label "Solving Polynomials: Factoring". i think ive watched just about every one of your factoring video but cant find anything on this. it even looks like they want me to write a polynomial equation from sets of roots, one set contains nothing square roots being divided (which i thought were imaginary numbers). tried asking the teachers at school but they dont make any sense and i end up being more confused. Any suggestions?
