Yes, each of the "teeth" in the grill were separate. My parents had a '58 Super. It was totalled in an accident - lady ran a stop sign and smashed the front left quarter panel. Insurance totalled it because it was exorbitantly expensive to replace/repair the grill. Still have a love affair with the '58s!

The grille was made in two massive castings. The “teeth” were not individual, or separate. The grille would not have been easily repairable, just replaceable.

What a great example of a '58. These were the days when Buick had a lot of resepct - definitely not a Chevy!. Love these big ole Buicks, especially love the detail on the fins! You really got a great shot of those! LOVE this color. I love the interior too. I've seen a lot of '58 Buicks, but the way you film in detail really shows the car in ways I hadn't noticed before. Especially the rear end! Good job as always. Appreicate the detail of the dash too. That was a real treat. What I learned today was the way it started with the gas pedal. Never knew that.

Absolutely stunning. That was back in the days where if a little chrome is good then a lot of chrome is better. If I remember correctly, the 58 Buick had a one speed transmission with two torque converters. People complained about the gas mileage when gas was 20 cents a gallon.

Oh, my, Lou! What do you have here? I know this is a car with excessive chrome - some would say "tastelessly chromed". But I have always loved this "guilded goose". It is simply stunning. To me the chrome gives it a very classic industrial look - a mid-century modern take on Art Decor look. The chrome and stainless gives it such substance and presence. While I love aerodynamic looks of today's cars, I am just amazed at how cars of this quality and complexity of construction were even designed with minimal computer input and certainly not in modeling. Imagine the tooling that had to be human driven in its production! This is such a beautiful car in a stunning green. Look at that interior! It has a real color - not some grey, black, or tan (or worse black/dark grey with dog stool brown inserts). Almost all of modern GM cars have no jewel-like aspect to their design and look like a five year old did the design work. This was when GM truly ruled design and this car just reeks of craftsmanship. The brochure was stunning - many of the "pictures" were human drawn, not just photographs of a real car. What attention to detail! And no Photoshop! Thank you for sharing this amazing car!

But what a striking appearance this 1958 Buick Century has in that Spray Green color! His lines are really beautiful; from the large front grille with squared decorations, to the large chrome eyebrow that starts from the double front headlights running towards the rear to join that large, rocket-style, chrome side piece with the Century logo forming the base corner of those large rear fins. Oh, and without forgetting the stylized curved roof adorned with large chrome pieces and its slightly green tinted windows. And what a nice and comfortable interior, in various shades of green, along with the elegant instrument panel with aeronautical-style buttons (special mention for the tape speedometer, the pedal start and the curious clock with "important" instructions for its calibration). What a well-preserved collection of original manuals and brochures; like the one you showed us, in full color, alluding to the first American supersonic B-58 Hustler bomber. Finally, the final ride along those Wisconsin roads was very nice, and even relaxing, thanks to the fact that, despite its powerful engine, its behavior is quite smooth and noiseless. Thanks to the Andersons for showing us this survivor, and to you, Lou, for the excellent work behind the camera!

Looking back, with all the chrome and bulk, it sure looked like a tank next to a comparable Chrysler New Yorker. Guess they got the hint because a few years later, the Buicks looked just like the Chrysler. One uncle had a Chrysler and the other a Buick convertible. Guess they had the best of both worlds. Thanks for the video.

Hiya Lou! Wow, what a beautiful Buick! That's one HIGHLY OPTIONED Century... I'm pretty sure that the canister under the hood on the driver's side, is an optional "chassis lubrication" system... There's a chrome button to the left of the steering column marked "accessory" that I think operates it. And as if THAT car isn't long enough as it is, imagine that the Roadmaster was nearly two feet longer, and the Limited was nearly THREE feet longer! Cheers and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hi, Lou! 6:22 "You look at it--and you see 'BIG' written all over this bold and beautiful 1958 Buick!" Ain't that the truth! Considering the sheer commanding presence of this car--and all that chrome and glitter--it's no wonder Buick became so synonymous with bigness! I knew there are 160 squares in that "Dyna-Star" grille, but I didn't know about all of them being individually screwed in. I would think that would be extremely time-consuming and cost Buick plenty in labor! That said, Clarence obviously took very good care of this car for its first six decades, and Steve and Norman are very fortunate to have the opportunity to keep it so well preserved! Many thanks to you and Steve for taking us all along on this Air Born ride through Dairyland!

Nice “58 Buick! My father had 2 of them at different times. A Special though not a Century. He loved that 58. The only other car he had loved was a 77 Grand Marquise with a 460 engine and a trailer towing package. Like the owner said, the Buick floats. I was a kid when he had that Buick but my favourite features was the neat speedometer and those bog chrome boobs formed into the bumpers 🫢

The 50s, 60 and 70s the float ride was what peeps wanted in a luxury car. Those old enough to remember still want it but can't get it because car builders today focus on handling and cornering and you can't have both.

The airplane on the brochure is the B-58 Hustler, a supersonic strategic bomber. It was the fastest and highly styled jet bomber of the day. The styling of this Buick certainly paid homage to that jet bomber.

When I was a teen in the mid 80's, there were 2 copper 58 Buicks in my small town that were daily drivers and they were often seen in the same places at the same time usually parked side by side as the little old ladies who owned them knew each other. Both women died around the same time and neither of their families wanted the cars and both cars again were again parked side by side -- sadly this time at the junkyard even though they were both in great condition In every way -- no rust, dents, no faded paint, no tears in the upholstery, ran great, even the wide white wall tires were good. I could never understand why they were junked instead of being sold.

I junked a couple of 58s back in the late 60s, one was a Special convertible. I've always regretted it. At the time I was happy to be rid of them as they wee both problematic.

What a gem! Another great episode Lou. You should do a whole episode on the art and artists who drew the brochures back in the day before they were created with photographs. I’m sure people like Harley Earl had some involvement in that end of the business too since he headed up GMs design studio.
