electricbikere... Mikey was invited to tour some factories in China recently and said that he had a great time with Shengyi Motors. In this video, he's taking you along first hand to see how they're made. You’ll see the testing, manufacture by hand and by machine. I’ve just installed a Shengyi front hub motor on my mountain bike as part of a conversion kit for commuting & touring. Works great so far especially for its size. I’ve heard they are very reliable which probably stems from the fact they have been producing these motors for a long time and have ironed out the the problems. Looks to be a large factory with a good future seeing how Ebikes are becoming so popular. Great to see behind the scenes of these places.

Ebike motor manufacturing is really interesting. Quality control seems so important to the process. What's interesting is in a previous vid, electrical cables were made that will be married to these motors. Its also interesting to see a new mid drive motor that will be coming to the US. It's obvious we will be seeing more of these motors on different brands. These type vids are very interesting. Keep up the good work and keep these type vids coming.

Hi Court, I would like to ask if you could do a review of the Fazua ebike motor. I think they are now selling on Focus bikes in Europe and maybe Cube brand. What I love about them is their lightness and also when you take the motor and battery off the bike you simply just have your regular bike. TIA. Peter.

Interesting and informative video - thanks much. This appears to be one of the cleaner, more modern of the Chinese factories and the fact that Lime chose them, presumably after technical and qualitative due diligence, is a plus. My question about this motor and with other Chinese brands, is where do you get it serviced? Now this is when my brethren that bought bikes online chime in that their bike has gone X number of miles and hasn't needed service. Good on you mate, but that won't be the case for every rider. Certainly affordability is a huge issue, but I hope as a community we look at total cost of ownership. Often it seems to come down to, do you pay $1900 for a bike with a generic Chinese motor like Shengyi or Bafang, or $2,200 for a bike with an established brand with a global service network like Bosch or Shimano? It's all a matter of choice, but if there are mechanical moving parts, friction, and load - I know the choice I'll make. We really need an independent testing lab to evaluate the Nm and kWh claims put forth by the manufacturers and the bike brands that integrate them. There's no reason to believe the 'creative license' Chinese manufacturers take with rating standards does not extend to ebike motors.

Interesting question. I've been watching Louis Rossmann on KZbin on Right to Repair. There used to be motor repair shops everywhere but western manufacturers chose cheaper to unrepairable. If there's a need then fill it and don't wait for others, trust yourself. Cheers

China takes the lead in small electric motors. I have done 2000 miles on my china assembled bicycle ,never ever had to service the motor.
