For me your most important comment was “ …….took the time to think for myself…….” . Seems like anyone with access to wide reaching influence is able to get the unthinking masses to feel the same emotional pain and rally towards their cause. Between the media and the internet it’s harder and harder to step back and think for ourselves under viral bombardment of hurt feelings.

Taking the knee is not disrespectful. Someone can choose to be offended by something - that’s their right. It doesn’t mean it was intended to be offensive or that anyone should stop the person doing what they choose. Yes, the NFL have the right to say “we don’t want people in our private venue doing X” he’s right on that - that’s the same reason Twitter can tell people “we don’t want you saying X” it’s why clubs and venues can say “we don’t want you saying X” - however when Twitter did that, when private clubs do that and refuse to let a right wing hate monger speak etc, the right wing get all in their feels and cry about “freedom of speech” and “help help, I’m being oppressed”. That hypocrisy is why the right wing campaigners are misleading people. They cry “free speech” when they feel they want to express something, and “that’s offensive (disrespectful) and must be stoped” when it’s something they don’t agree with. But - he’s right, the NFL / the stadium etc as a private venue and the club employing a player etc, can try to impose rules on what the players do. BUT here’s the thing, who are the fans there to actually see? The people who own the venue? The owners of the club? No. The crowd is there to see the players and that means it is the players who actually hold the power to kick back against being told what they are allowed to do, to ignore the “rules” and do it anyway, and challenge the NFL and the venue and the club to do something about it. If they are prepared to fine the player, or even kick them out and risk the players saying “ok, so next time I have to put my body on the line for the club, I’ll remember that and let’s see what happens”… This is about players standing up and saying “we hold the real power here, and if you think otherwise, let’s see you try it” - and for that, for a worker (all be it a well paid one) to stand up to their employer and demand to be able to do something which caused no one any harm, but allows them to feel empowered, I applaud that. Regardless of the cause they take the knee for, “standing up to the man” by taking a knee has a long tradition and I respect their right to do that. It also happens I think a high profile black person helping to bring attention to a situation of social injustice in the country, despite criticism and personal risk, is also admirable and to be applauded and again, has a long proud tradition in the campaign for social justice - look at the athletes at the Olympics who protested etc. So - technically he’s “right” but morally and practically he’s wrong - and also a hypocrite.

Taking a knee is NOT disrespectful to people who fought for the country. Soldiers take the knee for fallen comrades. It is a sign of respect for those who have fallen - and that’s exactly the context it is being done.

Your entire argument and objection is based on the action being deliberately misrepresented by the right racist movement that taking the knee is “disrespectful” to the military or anyone else. It is not. As for saying “he can protest somewhere else” that’s just stupid - of course the protest is where it has the most impact - or maybe he should have a word with the people who attacked the capitol on Jan 6th about where they chose to “protest”? Hypocrisy again.

@@sputukgmailno soldier has ever taken a knee during the national anthem for a fallen comrade. What the fuck are you talking about? I’m retired military, no soldier sailor airman does not stand at attention and salute the colors during the national anthem. Period

He was such a high profile player that none of the teams wanted to sign him to a new contract - prior to his kneeling shenanigans and pig socks. He wasn't very good, so he created a stink and wrapped it in the cloak of civil rights. It was an entirely selfish and fraudulent expression. He just wanted to be the victim. Just like Jesse Smollett, who was prominently featured by Kamala Harris on the campaign trail - Took his race-baiting a little too far and flew too close to the sun.
