If a black bear is threatening you or charging, stand very tall and find ways to appear larger. *DO NOT BEND DOWN. DO NOT RUN.* Make loud noises, maybe by banging pots and pans, playing very loud rock music out of a device you have, or just yelling and making strange, loud noises. *THIS DOES NOT WORK ON GRIZZLY OR POLAR BEARS AND WILL ONLY MAKE THEM EVEN MORE ANGRY!* For grizzly bears, stay at least 100 yards away. If it charges, *play dead* until the grizzly bear is out of the area. *Lay flat on your stomach with your hands clasped together on the back of your neck and spread your legs.* If it is merely standing there and you happen to stumble upon one without angering it, act passive and calmly but slowly back away. For polar bears, from what I hear, quietly and calmly walk back the way you came. You can also make a very wide detour around the polar bear. Yes, best to play dead if you are being attacked by a grizzly(easier for him to eat you) fight a black bear(he's still gonna kill you) and if you can't get away or have a means of killing a polar bear he will transform your body into turds.

You make loud noises, most bears would rather move away from the painful sounds than waste their time on a crunchy human. Grizzlies are evil and often eats limbs first to keep the prey alive while they eat. You have no chance. Brown bears attack faster than black ones but aren't quite as sadistic/evil Polar bears are like brown bears but bigger, stronger and more vicious

The bear survival tip will not work if you're up against a grizzly or a polar bear, they'll just put you in your place if you try to appear bigger than them (but it should work against black bears). If you encounter a grizzly, lay down facing the floor, put your hands behind your head and spread your legs to make it harder for the bear to turn you over; if you do that correctly, the grizzly may give up and leave you alone. Against a polar bear, tear pieces of your clothing and throw them at him before running away since he'll be busy inspecting that for some time.
