Lesley had discussed with her parents what she wanted to do, that being going into the studio and making a professional recording. Her parents were reluctant to allow her to do this. I always remember listening to Lesley Gore, for the very first time, as an adolescent, throughout the 1980’s, when most people had already started converting to the dance music era. However, even though I loved listening to most of her songs, I could never seem to put a face to her name, for the simple fact that I had never really owned any of her records, nor actually seen her, until i started consulting the KZbin channel. In fact, i was really amazed to see how she looked like, for the very first time and i was truly mesmerized by her looks, but especially with her Brooklyn accent. Lol! No matter what other people had to say about her, somehow i already new that Lesley Gore was gay, but that’s ok. I just simply loved her anyways. God bless her resting soul! She made so many people happy and that’s what really matters. Thank you so much! for this magnificent presentation. Johnny, Montréal, Canada 🇨🇦

Lesley was 16 when she recorded It's My Party on March 30, 1963. At that session, she also recorded Hello Young Lover (You Ain't Gonna Get To My Heart); Something Wonderful; and Danny. The tapes were shelved. That evening, Quincy ran into Phil Spector and found out he was in the studio with the Crystals recording It's My Party. Quincy went back to the studio with his engineer and produced 100 copies of the record, prepared them for mailing out to key radio stations that Monday morning. The record was officially released April 8th,

Lesley recorded You Don't Own Me in the fall of 1963 for her 2nd Mercury album, LESLEY GORE SINGS OF MIXED-UP HEARTS. It was released as a single (December 1963) with Run Bobby, Run as the B side. It went to the #2 spot on Billboard in February 1964. Lesley recorded You Don't Own Me in French, German and Italian. Lesley has always stated that she considered the song a "humanistic" song.
@lorettaschmitt42243 жыл бұрын
Perhaps those of you who say they don't need to know about Lesley Gore's personal life could look at it another way. Honestly, how many of you would feel the same if an article, video etc. mentioned a woman's husband and children? Would you really feel that a line was crossed and that you didn't need to know so much about her personal life? Like it or not, a person's lifetime experiences have an impact on their songs, acting, writing or whatever their chosen venue is. Also as distasteful or uncomfortable as you might find it, it may be that the performer wants to have their "significant other" acknowledged as a valuable and important part of their life. Don't regard this type of revelation as some dark secret that should be kept private. Try to see it as someone who was finally able to be themselves and tell the world "this is the person who has loved and supported me both personally and professionally and we love each other." It really is a wonderful feeling.

I had a big crush on Leslie when I was an 11 year old boy in 1964. My favorite Leslie Gore song is “Maybe I Know” Many props to Leslie for taking a stand on issues she cared about. Although it is true that leslie gore did have a role in the movie "grace of my heart", the equally important fact that facts verse leaves out, maybe unintentionally, is that the movie, "grace of my heart", was written about the life and career of the queen of song, ms Carole King. Read most revues of that movie as most revues mention this similar parallel. The movie critics noticed this and often stated the reason this movie failed at the box office is the ending should have given the main character a more fitting successful career success as Carole King's career did with the release of her successful album tapestry.. still it would have been kind of facts verse to acknowledge this piece of movie and music history since leslie Gore's participation in the movie is based on the success, hard work, talent and achievements of Carole King.

Never heard of her she popped up somehow on Facebook. She was a bit before my time but I find her intriguing and so beautiful, her eyes, her smile she was a stunning woman. Then I hear she's passed away I have heard the song it's my party but I never knew the singer! . Her sexuality did shock me I have to say. Doesn't make a difference in my life but it did. She never had the blessing of having children that's sad in my eyes. I have stalked her now for some days and I find her fascinating. She seemed an all round good genuine kind person.

Lesley Gore was an integral part of 1960s music history and 20th century history period. Humanity is quick to judge peoples’ personality, appearance, background, and sexual leanings but whatever God creates is a thing of beauty. And the final judgement will most definitely not be humanity’s even though it may be humanity’s turn to cry. RIP Lesley. Tempus Fugit…

I was first introduced to this song by Grace Urban Voices, the remake is freaking amazing...as time has gone by, I've delved into Leslie Gores past...just an amazing woman in times that didn't allow her to be herself...

Loved her. My parents thought we looked alike lol i sang all her songs growing up. Loved You Dont Own Me and Out Here On My Own the best. Even sang a few of her songs when I was in my band and did some oldies.
