Fade Into You - Dinosaur Jr. cover of Mazzy Star

The Keep + Dinosaur Jr. collaboration is now available at www.keepcompany.com! This extremely limited project was produced in an edition of 360. Designed by J Mascis and using Keep's desert boot Shaheen silhouette, the Keep + Dinosaur Jr. shoe features a deep violet, vegan microsuede body and an embroidered guitar strap accent patterned after one of J's own straps. Each pair will come with a 7" picture disc, featuring J Mascis' warm and ethereal cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You". This track has never been released to the public until now.

The album is titled Bridges and a must listen if you haven't already. Standouts for me based on a very quick sampling: Victoria Williams-Don't let it bring you down, Lips-After the Gold Rush, Bongwater-Mr. Soul, Pixies-Winter, Sonic-Computer Age, Kaiser-Words.

Great new take on a classic, but the original is impossible to top IMO. Hope Sandoval's vocal had this element to it that was hard to identify but impossible to forget. A combination of melancholic hopelessness, apathy, and a hint of a southern drawl. Love this version, but the original is one of my favorite vocal performances ever.

Thank you KZbin-"Recommended for you", finally you are showing me something that really blew my mind. Although I am a long time Dinosaur Jr. fan (especially of their older stuff), I didn't know this. But this might be their best cover, although they usually do them great. Actually the only cover done by Dinosaur Jr (at least out of the ones I have heard) that wasn't greater than the original (but still great) was J. Mascis' cover of "No good trying" by Syd Barrett (with Soft Machine as backing band, Syd Barrett's original version that is). This cover is definitely better than the original, though not bad either, but Dinosaur Jr. really brings the best out of this song. So beautiful and haunting, almost made me cry.
