On the wear and tear point, it would be interesting to see cars balanced for that. Imagine if you could have a Lancia Delta be *better* than the other cars in it's class but more likely to fall apart.

Would be historically accurate. Lancia actually fielded the 037 in Kenya and other endurance rallies because the Delta S4 was just that fragile.

On the subject of damage. The previous WRC games had that wear and tear aspect. Brakes and suspension would wear throughout the stage.

In a very arcadey way though , wear of tires was based on lenght you drove, even if at 10 mph, it would wear same..

Roads don't seem to have much abrupt shorter bumps, dips, grooves, to make it a hard bumpy ride. Hitbox collisions seem off often too, and u can hit a small rock and its like a cement wall.

Some roads do but yes overall I agree. That was one of the immersive features of dr2. The road surface felt so detailed in that game. Its a bit smooth at times here, a lil bit more like the previous wrc games. Maybe somewhere in between.

@@dean7273 Are we playing the same game? The road is very very VERY bumpy on the rallies that are bumpy in general... I just ran the rally Acropolis on Time Trial which is without degradation for a bit of practice on not braking the car as much and it is very bumply on the rough gravel parts... the game distinguishes the soft smooth gravel and the tough bumpy gravel EXTREMELY WELL... Also, if you're running on a wheel, lower the self align to about 70-75, lower wheel friction to around 40-45, Tyre Friction to around 15, make suspension 120-125 and you're gonna see MASSIVE difference... you'll feel every single rock and stone on the gravel... we're talking mindblowing difference... DR2.0 was trash compared to this... and DR2.0 was a good game...

Wreckfest back when it was Next Car Game at some point had a part wear feature. I really liked it because it actually gave me a proper incentive to upgrade parts when the old ones wear out

They should add a event under Moments Hub were you have to finish a stage in a Puma with waterpump issue or hybrid not working or with the broken shifter or half the power.... List goes on.

I really love your idea about not necessarily knowing what state the car parts are in. It would really introduce a risk/reward scenario - you need to go fast, but do you really need to go flying over that jump? If would introduce a really nice gameplay of being fast, but being delicate. Not hitting the red line every single time, entering those hairpins with a little more finesse, etc

26:42 on the subject of weird AI performances, there is definitely some sort of issue with it. I also play on 85 and am typically within a few seconds of the AI on any given stage, but I'll occasionally get the issue you described with the AI being very slow on a stage. I think the most egregious example was when I smoked the AI by 4 minutes on a 9 minute stage. That just should not be possible, so they've got some issues to work out. But when the AI works it's good, this is a great game overall

Yeah same here I did my first event with difficulty set to 50 figuring it'd be basically "normal" difficulty, but I was consistently minutes ahead.

The only great thing about this game, is how the cars handle and the stages. It looks like trash tbh in comparison to DR2.0. The roads have no texture whatsoever. Asphalt is just straight asphalt, not cracks in the concrete, or repairs, potholes that have textures. Just flat. The lighting also sucks in a lot of stages. It can look decent in wet conditions but nowhere near DR2.0 I got it on series X, and it stutters and screen tears so bloody hard it starts giving me a headache.. this is not next Gen, not even close. Good to know after all these years, EA had to be the ones to remind me never to pre order games. Not sure why I assumed EA would actually pull through this time. Yes, I’m putting it all on EA. This was not codemasters. They had a deadline to meet, and rushed it out the door like they always do, they couldn’t wait to release a WRC 24 game as they only had the cars and that for this year for now.

@@LJT9393 eh, I mean it just released. If there's anything we know for certain it's that triple-A publishers never actually release the finished product. We'll probably see some graphical (and hopefully some optimization) improvements, along with maybe some improvements to track surface detail.

I was playing until WRC released and DR2.0 looked AMAZING for it's time (2019 release) but this game definitely looks better... you need a really good PC to run it decently well but on 1440p medium graphics it certainly looks better than 1440p ultra on DR2.0... anyone that says otherwise is either blind or some hater that wants to trash the game no matter what...

Nah I fully agree... It's a massive part I love about yeeting laps on beam even though there's not much in the way of truly competitive AI yet, hit bumps too hard or jumps too hard and you're slowly collapsing the suspension or bending control arms etc. No I don't expect WRC to do it to beams extent obviously but the fact that you can flat out YEEEEEET a jump (or embankment if you're lucky) and take absolutely NO damage as long as you land sort of nicely just feels.... wrong, haha.

Heard about this new title, came to look, seriously underwhelmed. To me there is ZERO fun in going fast, if hitting things doesn't matter? What's the point then? As I get older it seems games are aimed at younger and younger players, who can't handle even an ounce of realism.

Beamng is the only that comes close, maybe wreckfest with a realistic damage mod, but that game is way more arcady. Another game i would love to see: a realistic street racing game. Why are all street racing games automatically arcade? Just imagine buying cars for their tuning potential, engines blowing up from too much boost, cars getting wrecked because of a curb. Maybe the guy who wins all the time has to rebuild his 2000 hp supra everytime makes less money because of that than the stock lotus elise guy that only comes in 4th or something.

@@Mr.Marbles I hear ya... If anything street racing should be hyper-realistic, if only to teach kids how easily they can wreck their cars and/or themselves. Instead we have youngsters playing games that basically say you can bounce off kerbs at 200 mph with no problem. I hear the excuse about licensing and how some makers don't want to see their cars mangled. OK, work with the ones that will, and name and shame those that won't. I agree a game where tricking out your ride has realistic effects - and you can blow it up or wreck it - would be hella fun. The arcade aspect of all such games makes me not even bother trying; I just presume it's arcade crap and don't bother.

I remember playing an early-to-mid-90s rally game (my mind keeps saying Network Q RAC Rally, but I'm still not sure if that was it...) in which all of the computer competitors retired after a night snow stage. :)

In regards to the AI difficulty the main balancing point is when the AI gets on the brake or the throttle. That's why on more flat out stages it's easier to gap the AI than on twisty stages

Wearing wise: in dirt rally 2.0 there are those kind of wear for engine if you shift too late too much. Even if my radiator is fine, I often see “high engine temperature” at stage notes section. And if you not training your engineers they will find out a wear later. Additionally, there are some unexpected malfunctions such “differential failure” for AI. I didn’t faced such failures by my self and can’t say if it’s suitable for players. And yeah, for example, your suspension wearing during stages and there’s no need for engineers to check for that because you can feel it yourself.

I wish Codemasters went back with Nicky Grist as the navigator using his pace notes for Colin McRae. Their style of pace notes to me is the most efficient in giving the driver the information needed. For instance: "100, 5-Right, Minus; into 6-left plus" Nicky Grist said that in their system, the numbers refer more to the gear you need to be on for the corner instead of the estimation of the angle of the corner (as what most pace notes are based on). 100 refers to the distance to the 5-right corner (so 100meters and then 5-right), "minus" means you dab on the brakes. Therefore, you need to dab the brakes slightly and enter the corner at 5th gear. "Into" means the 5-right immediately flows to the 6-left; and then "plus" indicates that you can increase throttle input to maximum and upshift to 6th gear when tackling the 6-left. If Nicky says "slow" or "caution" instead of "Minus", it means you need to apply more brakes for the turn. So "slow, 3-left" means quite a heavy braking and down-shifting to 3rd gear. If it's followed by "into flat 4-right", then after making the 3-left, you can then take the next turn at full throttle in 4th gear. I wish I could remember which interview Grist explained their system, but I think their notations are just pure genius. Super detailed but super efficient at the same time.

That does sound like an awesome system, but since the gear choices could differ so much between all the cars, I don't think it would be feasible in a game unless the car choices were more limited.

Dirt Rally 1 had series progressive wear. Each race you would gradually have stage wear that would happen even when you drove a clean stage.

That is bullshit though... rally cars on a completely clean run get 0 wear and tear... If a rally driver runs a fully clean stage then all they have to do is change tyres... rally cars are extremely durable my friend... they're nothing like any other race car...

​@@nikosfotidas8543you must be new to rallying, example: the debut tarmac event for the Sport Quattro s1 e2, 1985 ulster rally, in an interview before the first stage the commentator asks Russell Brookes if he's worried about the new Quattro, he said "nah, it'll blow up." After Michèle Mouton set joint fastest time on the first stage, it overheated on the road section before stage 2 and had to retire from the rally. Things do wear out and break especially on the older cars, watch some of the 1980s manx rallies, they're on KZbin and therevwas good coverage of them, they were always suffering with problems.

you sold me on it and i love it. my only two problems with it are really minor which speaks to the quality of the game 1. decal/livery editor might as well not be in the game, no mirroring (that i, someone who will spend hours painting a car, could find), very counter-intuitive, really sucks 2. junior wrc is the only class in the builder where there are different engines to actually choose from, even then its different sizes and flavours of i4. i know its wrc and homologated, but i'd like one of the more open classes to be added to the builder because i wanna build my very own v8 rally car.

Totally agree with the wear and tear / damage ideas for another level of realism. Any rally fan or ex driver ( I rallied 205s) could tell you each cars Achilles heal eg Fwds would pop drive shafts for fun on full lock and power.

You can't do that in a game dude... you can't balance WHEN this would happen.. out of the blue? Would break the game... this is a video game.. you can't tell a player the shaft broke even though you didn't do anything wrong and use RNG.... it's stupid... Also, modern rally cars don't have such issues anymore... even older models modded for rallying with modern equipment don't have such issues anymore because technology has improved a lot...

Disagree, you would need to drive to the conditions and the vehicles. If you read what I said you don't floor a 205 or a Nova on full lock or you rip a shaft that's not a huge task to programme. The closer to reality and the further from arcade the better IMHO.

@@tambrown9137 That would make the game ridiculously punishing and would destroy any sense of fun... it would put off about 95% of the playerbase and would satisfy only 5% of purists that want games to be exactly like real life... however having driving physics being accurate and having real life mechanical incidents are two very different things... A game must be FUN... and running while having to beware of the car breaking down on it's own while playing a video game is not fun... Let me put it this way... Starfield is a very realistic game in it's approach... but it's not a FUN game and people hate it... real life is not fun... and a racing sim is still a video game... and games that are not fun don't sell well at all... and rightfully so...

That's my point though, cars don't breakdown on their own it's either because of poor maintenance or bad driving. Fun yes but it also has to be challenging or stick to Forza Horizon or V Rally. Agreed that it all comes down to sales figures. Add a game mode ' fecking realistic'.

On the bumpiness aspect I think the bonnet cam is stabilising which is a bit cheesy. Try another round from the cockpit cam and see how you feel. Really loving the game so far, feels like Dirt Rally 2.0 and RBR smashed together. Looking forward to VR and UDP

Yeah the blurriness is just how the game looks. The switch to Unreal has been both good and bad. Much longer and more challenging stages but with worse graphics which I don’t think’s necessary a bad trade off. The real problem is the constant performance issues

Guaranteed the visuals would look 50% better with the in game brightness turned down lower. This bumps up contrast and makes the colours richer. It's the same story in pretty much all modern games.

Damage is a bit lack lustre, and I’ve found quite a few times being stopped dead in my tracks and my car pretty much destroyed by the most flimsy of objects which is quite frustrating, and in addition to this I’m also very disappointed by the lack of rally wales, but other than this it’s absolutely fantastic, absolutely loads of stages, absolutely loads of cars, great career and progression system, looking forward to playing more

Damage in EA WRC is actually much more detailed than the Dirt Rally series, you can break individual steering arms or bend an axle out of alignment

At the end of each season you can see top 3 in every WRC class, but not during the season probably. There are rally archives in career mode, but they only displays racing history of each driver during your career

You know modern gamers are lost when this is a fine and good game. Stutters is not a problem, it's just par for the course. The realism is not there. The road is not a road with bumps and faults, it's a straight digital line with some graphics on the side. The handling is not there, the cars autosteers out of every oversteer you make and different car models feels the same. Game looks and run terrible as well. DR2 looks better and deliver a stable framerate everywhere in comparison. Forcing Codemasters to use Unreal 4 engine is probably the reason behind most of these problems.

EA WRC game looks pretty good. Not much into Rally games, but do like the scenic routes in these games. I am still going to wait till i can get the game for a cheaper price when and if it goes on sale on STEAM. Don't know it they are going to add/put PC VR support into the game, otherwise since I think WRC is an UNREAL game engine I could use UEVR app to make it into a VR game. Thanks for the video. Hi, there is lack of complementary information about turns in general others titles have too. i wish thet can be add is the approximative width like "half car" when the pace note say "narrow " Don't know where to positioning the car relavite to the approching corner. Also when the turn annonced is for exemple a 5 with no additional info and it's not flat out need to lift/brake or adjust steering. When driving "gear per turns" like i do it's inconvinient,having preparing the line and got ruined by small thing like that.

On XBSX (about 5hrs of play so far): screen tearing, regular hitches, especially ahead of the conclusion of each race, textures sometimes not fully loading on time, rarely, things like headlights not appearing on in replays when they were clearly on during the race itself. Overall, the game seems unpolished. I hope that EA/Codies can rescue this game from these issues in the months ahead. Love the tracks, locations, and driving. It's not perfect at launch, but it's a solid foundation to improve upon. Patches and updates ASAP! (I wish they'd done better with the SE Asian tracks - unremarkable landscapes, given the spectacular nature of real-world environments in SE Asia.)

Same thing happened in PS5. The fps drop or stuttering issue is really annoying since this game requires you to be consistent throughout a race and a slight hiccups in the middle of it will absolutely ruin your pace, at least for me. Hopefully this will be fixed.

Game looks good, but I share your fear they might EA it up, putting their name into the game's title is more a warning than anything else. Would be great if this had rallycross and hillclimbs as well,. This could have been a spiritual successor to RalliSport Challenge 2, which would have been really interesting when combined with vehicle ownership.

i pre-ordered it and refunded it before the 2 hours was over. i couldn't take the stuttering. another primary consideration was it should work with steam deck, which isnt the case. i was ok with just streaming it, but it would still stutter at 1280x800 steam deck resolution on medium. i just bought wrc 10 and Im glad that it works with steam deck using proton 8.0.4.

The surfaces are way too smooth. No rattling, shaking and bumping happening. The tracks look perfectly flat in nearly all the footage I've seen. The car appears to hover like it's not in contact with the ground. Immersion breaking flaw. Once you realise this, you can't unsee it. 😢

Ive played this for 5 hours today using the free ea play thing, i actually just went back and played dirt 2.0 so as to get a direct comparison. Dirt for me feels, looks and performs better, i think going to unreal engine was a mastake and the much older game is superior.

Love Dirt Rally but this feels more arcadey on PS5 and the tracks I have seen so far are inferior tot he designs and atmosphere in the last Kileton game(Generations). They are all quite barren and empty but maybe I just picke the wrong ones so far (Sweden, Monte Carlo, Greece, Spain, Estonia, Greece and New Zealand). The lack of SSS’s is unforgivable. As is the fact there’s no recent Ford Focus in it.

I don't think we'll ever officially see a full Martini livery in a game again what with the issues with Alcohol and Tobacco sponsors in racing games (I think it's an immediate 18+ rating and possible outright ban in some countries if they are in a game which naturally most devs want to avoid) and I can't say I even remember censored versions of those liveries being in a game from the past 10 years or so either, it's probably not enough for the censors as the brand colour schemes are still there. The standard GT4 carry over Deltas in GT6 is the last appearance I can think of. No clue regarding the Alitalia Stratos livery though, just general licensing issues / costs I guess.

Stage length and load times really appears to be the only good things about moving to Unreal Engine 4. DR2.0 had better visuals, textures and effects. Handling model certainly seems more simcade than the Dirt Rally series. Especially in RWD stuff on loose surfaces.

It seems it was mandatory to get more realistic stages/environments, which is one of, if not THE most important things about this kind of game. That was one of the few reasons to play the WRC series instead of DiRT. Hopefully it should also make it easier to move to UE 5 in the future, and give us truly great graphics. I wouldn't be surprised if this game would've been on UE 5, or at least more polished than it is, had the devs been given more time by EA. Better visuals, textures, etc is mostly circumstantial. Some of it is better in DR 2.0, some is better in this game. Some of it depends on time of day, and some is just subjective. And prettier doesn't always mean better/more realistic. That's a trap a lot of people fall into. The physics are absolutely more realistic in this game from everything I've seen and done. Occasionally there seems to be a little too much grip, but rally cars and their tires are beasts on all surfaces IRL, and this game is closer to reality in those regards. More difficult doesn't necessarily mean more realistic.

This game is a serious down grade on dirt rally 2 . The visuals and sounds just don’t get anywhere near . I also find some tracks so boring …. Maybe it’s just me . Yes the Ai is dreadful . Set to 100 in one race but still annihilated the completion by over 2 mins . Next race Ai down to 40 and can’t match there pace at all .

Absolutely loving this game so far, it feels fantastic even on a controller, the career mode is fun with the option to create your own cars and the sounds are on point 👌 Of course there’s a few early teething problems but nothing major, not for me anyway. Really enjoying it so far

Seems like a cool game, but getting a PS5 for just this? Nah bit overkill. I do agree about the wear and tear bit, that'd make the game alot more realistic and also adds a degree of difficulty. Rally games have done it in the past, look at Colin McRae Rally 04 and 05. You wouldn't want to put the wrong tires on a car before a race, it was unforgiving about that! Try and ride one out on 3 tires, nope! And also be a bit too eager and your suspension would be nackered! I do love the whole bunch of cars in this game!

First of all, if you don't have a PS5 then buy a PC... sim racing is worth it ONLY on PC... FFB wheels have no customizability on consoles and you're wasting your money if you don't have that...

The livery editor is hot garbage especially with the car builder being a thing. No numbers to tell you position, rotation, and scale. I really enjoy the gameplay but it feels like something better to be left out since being that half assed is disappointing. I hope they improve it

My summer car does a better job at wear and tear on the vehicle and damage to the engine then any other vehicle game I have seen. The simple fact that you have to build the motor yourself makes it more impressive from a vehicle standpoint than any game I've seen.
