This week, we had our memorial service for our donors that generously donated their body for dissection in the anatomy lab. This was an emotional ceremony shared with my classmates. We are so thankful to have worked with those individuals; however, it saddens me that we were unable to finish our dissections due to the pandemic. The concept of zooming the ceremony was also depressing as the realization of social distancing was in full impact mode. In this vlog, I also briefly share why I chose to become a DO student and I do a Q&A at the end, answering some of your guys' great questions!

I just want to say that by no means am I trying to exploit the memorial for views. The Willed Body Program is an amazing thing that many people don't know about. This is an opportunity to spread awareness about it. And for future medical students, you're able to see how special our donors are to us.

It makes me sad that you have to brace yourself for negativity just for studying in the summer. I know you're going to be a great doctor and the fact that you love to learn and want to continue learning is just one of the reasons I don't have a doubt in my mind that you are on a wonderful path for yourself and you are going to excel throughout your life and career! Awh thank you. The negativity never gets in my way. I just want people to know that they have been acknowledged and that I hear what they are saying. Great moment to also remind people that we are all different and many people use comment boxes to project onto others. So when people tell me not to study, it’s cause they don’t want to study :)

Don't apologize for studying over the summer. I think it's rare to see a medical student that doesn't study AT ALL over the summer. But don't study too much. Our school has emphasized to not start studying for step too early to avoid burnout, which I understand better now that our current M2's 6 week dedicated study turned into a 12 week dedicated study. I'm planning on reviewing some as well.

I really sympathized with what u said about people who donated their body to science. I recently visited Amsterdams body worlds museum and that experience was as emotional as it was special and educational. Although I’m not a med student, and I didn’t go through the same thing as you, I think I get it. I also really want to study medicine and become a doctor in the future, and I have so much respect and gratitude towards those amazing individuals.

It's a hard field to go into because it can bring very competitive people around you, hard work, and sad moments sometimes. I feel like they have to harden themselves to be able to make it through the hard times they make encounter. It's a weird feeling, but I think it takes a mentally strong person as she said in her last video. If you are in it, I hope that you can be the same way. The empathy will still remain, despite having to fight for it sometimes. :)

True, because medicine will harden a medical student. When you go through the same case, the same procedure over and over again, you will harden like a stone, but a precious stone like a diamond because you will be needed in the community.

Im so happy to see people thanking the people who donate their body to science. There was a local university that had cadavers and a sprinkler leaked onto a few. The bodies ended up growing mold and it made me so upset.

Random question: are DO students allowed to take the USMLE Step 1 in place of the Comlex 1? I scribe with a DO Hospitalist, who thinks that in the future, DO students can take the USMLE step 1 in place of taking Comlex 1 for graduation requirement. This in turn would help reduce the exam load so DOs won’t need to take both exams to graduate from med school and apply to Allopathic residencies. I’m just curious what it will look like for the future with the merger. Also, I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work! ☺️
