​@@tiddlesthecat1141 they went into business together in a production company after stargate. It went south in a big way. Never mix friendships and business. Theres some debate about the exact problem between Judge and Shanks. The stories that are going around is that Judge used the production company as a vehicle to push his own project (rage of angels) and the company lost a lot of money and both blamed the other. The second story is that the production company sold rights to a show to MGM and MGM told Judge to kick Shanks out of the company if he wanted the show to be bought. I recent years Judge had some health problems and they rebuilt a friendship.

They wrote a pilot for the show (shanks was going to apparently play Lucifer and Judge would play Michael or someone else, I can’t remember who) which Judge then took to Starz. However they didn’t want it to feel like a stargate reunion and told Judge to drop Shanks. He did and the show ended up being canned anyway and never made

@@failwhale34 Vala doesn't understand that Daniel is hurt from his first love and wife but I understand Vala's point of view: however this isn't a game of cat and mouse for Daniel he's a lot of sensativecthan what Vala gives him credit for(don't get it twisted I love Claudia Blacks character she's in the best part of this particular series) however she only gives it away to Daniel...plot thickens as we will continue to stur the pot

That was surprising news. Judge and Shanks were very close during the show. To the point that Chris wrote him in to one episode, just to work with his friend, during Shanks' hiatus.

So apparently Ben Browder was constantly breaking through the scenes with Wallace Shawn because he was just too inconceivably funny (see what I did there). You can see Ben turning away and covering his mouth in the background when Wallace and Claudia are having their 'moment', and also when Wallace is doing that thing with his hands on the table when talking about Vala on the beach. It's a really fun catch once you know it's there. 😆

The new doctor (Landry's daughter) is played by Lexa Doig (who was best known for playing the ship's AI in Andromeda prior to this). She is now married to Michael Shanks (they met when he guest starred on Andromeda). Shanks' previous wife is the actress who played Sha're in the first few seasons (Vaitiare Bandera). When she was pregnant with Apohis's child in season 2's "Secrets", that was actually Shanks' child, born in 1998 (Tatiana Shanks). She had a brief guest spot in a S9 episode. They separated some time after that.

24:24 Yeah, the rings were shown to swap things, even in the original movie. They used it to get Daniel off Ra's ship while simultaneously cutting off the head of "Anubis" (that was seriously the name of Ra's First Prime who was a normal human dressed as a Jackal Guard, *not* to be confused with the ascended Goa'uld we know as Anubis) and sending it to Ra. I feel like there were other instances in the franchise, but I don't remember specifically.

14:45 the dynamic actually reminds me of something of the opposite of Aeryn and John's relationship. She's the John to Daniel's Aeryn. It's not a perfect comparison, she's more flirtatious than John, definitely has shades of woman child to his shades of manchild. Daniel is more serious and exasperated than struggling to maintain emotionless professionalism in the face of new experiences. 24:30 The rings Ln were actually originally intended to _only_ work as a swap. Back in the movie, they weren't supposed to activate unless there was something at both ends.

Makes sense to swap one volume for another, if you just added one volume's worth of stuff into a volume that also contained stuff you'd end up with some pretty serious problems. It doesn't even have to be something solid, imagine if your body suddenly had its own volume worth of air merged with it. I'm fairly certain that'd kill you.

24:15 I believe that we have seen the rings do a "one stop double swap" several times before, notably Daniel used a double swap to get on to Ra's ship in the movie to revive Sha're, but I can't recall any specific sg1 episodes off the top of my head.

I too recognized the guy playing this Arlos, but couldn't remember where from. Turns out Wallace Shawn is a character actor with quite a few roles over the years. But the one I recognized was the Ferengi Grand Nagus Zek from _Star Trek: Deep Space 9._ ...Aaand, that's it for me.

i think the rings worked like that at least one time before in the show. fun thing is that the first episode that comes to my mind was the first one with vala where she stole the x303. if i remember correctly colonel reynolds used the rings to go and get hammond back and the control crystals got send the other way, where novak quickly took them away from the ringplatform. edit: that was some crap formulation

We were eating a bit later and there's Robert Picardo sitting at the next table. My mom was fangirling a bit but didn't want to bother him. I asked him if he minded if we said hi real quick and he was super nice. I did feel the need to pay and leave after that because I know my mom was prolly gonna make it weird if we stayed.

It's definitely a new kinda writing, I think they had to go that way to try and bring in the new enemies and cast. There's also at this point I think they were being pushed to pursue the other top scifi shows, SGU was a huge part of that (wanting to match BSG). But stargate works great as just stargate.

I've never heard that Shanks and Judge dislike each other. I hope its not true. I never really cared for this episode. I didn't really warm up to Mitchell until the next season. I didn't dislike him, it was just different. I knew he and Claudia Black were on Farscape together but hadn't watched it when this aired.
