By the rules of English Latin pronunciation, it's meant to be aljee, because the Latin "ae"s were all pronounced as "e"s during Late Latin, when the Gs were softened before E sounds. but it's against the normal rules of English to have "ga" be "ja", and people don't always have an expert around to pronounce new words for them when they read this stuff, so alg-ee is here as a spelling pronunciation.
