I just wanted to say that low porosity shampoo & conditioner a No. I brought the oil which I like as it smells good too. Whoever the owner is need to run me my money back or just send me two bottles of the oil. I took it to my hairstylist she even was like No. Then I tried later at home. It still was a No and a WHY. 4c low porosity

Hi Tonya! First I wanted to say thank you for this channel and your videos. You, Green Beauty, and WholeElise are pretty much the only hair care KZbinrs I ACTIVELY follow. As I've been watch a few of you videos about oils and grease, a though popped into my head, "What about using lard or tallow on the hair or in recipes?" I know most people gravitate toward plant-based sources, but I'm a believer in using all of an item. If the animal died to feed my family, we should honor it by using all parts of it that we can. In you "Secret Life of Oils" (?) video you mention saturated fats and monounsaturated fats as being good for our hair... if I'm remembering properly. When I looked up lard it was made up of 85% saturated and monounsaturated fats. I also remember using it as a hair grease as a child as well as to treat wounds and stuff. I was just wondering if there is a place for it in hair care too?

At this point, I’ve just accepted that they’re part of my hair-I’ve had em my whole life, relaxed and natural. Loose and in protective styles. They temporarily go away when I trim, but that’s about it in my experience.
@lailaalanna3152 жыл бұрын
My daughter gets them fairly often. I can't do oil rinses- I need to put moisturizer before I put oil, or her hair will be so dry. I can't protein treat because her hair is protein sensitive. I don't pre-poo because she has fine strands and I try to detangle as little as popsicle. That leaves me with search and destroy 😓.

I feel you.. single strand knots have made my natural hair hard to enjoy. No matter what I do, they keep coming back. I’ve tried a million different conditioners, I’ve pre-pooed, I deep condition weekly, I wear low manipulation styles…nothing works. I do the search and destroy method and it just takes me so long..it’s depressing. I want to accept them but my hair just breaks wherever the knot forms. I tried oil rinsing for the first time on my last hair wash date. It is a game changer. Usually when I finish detangling on side of my hair, the other section is dry and I will have to wet it again. With oil rinsing I didn't have to re-wet my hair again. My hair was soft and easy to manage. I have high porosity 4c strands that loves to wrap around each other. I mixed babassu oil with castor oil.

I don't really get fairy knots but I also rarely wear my hear just out and in an afro. I wash every two weeks, blow dry and keep my hair in cornrows for the most part. I detangle dry with oil as I'm taking the cornrows out and that routine has been working really well for me.

That’s what I’ve been doing for the past 2 years and I’ve noticed that I don’t really get fairy knots anymore. I used to spray my hair with water and conditioner after protective style and I think that contributed in my hair getting those knots.

What I do to prevent fairy knots is too always keep my hair stretched. I never let it shrink. And also when I take down my hair from protective style I don’t wet my hair because I feel like if I wet it or I use conditioner I get those knots instead I coat my hair in oil and take it down. Since I’ve been doing it I’ve noticed less knots. (sorry for my English)

I was never one to put honey on my hair so, I decided to get over my phobia and I melted some honey and shea butter and added it to the henna I was using to condition my hair. My hair is on the thinner side so after I wash it, I have to keep spritzing it with water because it dries out (horribly) before I can finish doing my protective style. Let me tell you!! My hair was so darn moisturized from the honey/shea butter! It was so shiny and healthy looking, and I was able to do all my twist without any spritzing. I didn't have to use anything but my fingers to detangle because it wasn't very tangled at all. Even if I am not going to do a henna, I have decided to add warm honey & shea butter to any conditioner. I couldn't go past a mirror without looking at my hair. I didn't recognize it.

You've good points and I get where you're going ... I would just tie the "loose ends": 1) define single strand knots first, 2) then causes of the knots ... which automatically ties in with prevention, 3) then, how to resolve the already existing knots. From the presentation: 1) how does "pre-pooing and detangling" before shampooing prevent the knots (I, would tie this in with the "shampooing technique" thereafter), 2) how do "oil rinses" prevent knots ... doesn't "conditioner" also contain "oil" ... as well as the rest of the "styling products" thereafter, 3) is there no friction at "ends" of "twisted hair" when sleeping ... or on clothes, or when "fluffing" (I, would focus more on position of "ends"), 4) do "protein treatments" resolve "split ends", causes of "split ends", "friction"... and how?

Finger detangling before shampooing. No products maybe a light water spray if my hair feel super dry but that’s unlikely (for me) because I wash my hair every week. I pull my hair vertically first the in a downward motion to remove my shedded hair. Shampoo and conditioner is definitely easier and quicker. You can also use the pressure of the water to detangle if you don’t want to prepoo or dry detangle. Meaning spend a little more time when you wet your hair prior applying your shampoo and start finger detangling. That would also give your hair time to get more hydration.

On your recommendation I started using oil rinses. All winter long I did oil rinses. It moisturized and kept my hair so soft and manageable. Plus it grows the hair as well. I also do a pre-poo every time I was my hair. I notice since doing the oil rinses I don't get any fairy knots. All these tips work. As long as you are consistent with your hair routine. If you have a wash & go how do twists and braids play a part in that when styling at night? I never understood why people were braiding their hair with certain styles. I don't want to transform my wash & go into a two-strand or braid out. Also, how do you prevent hair stalling? I don't believe people have a cut-off point where their hair stops growing. My hair is long but thins out at the same point, it seems. I'm wondering if I need to change something in how I either handle my hair or product-wise since it's longer. It was longer when I relaxed but this is the longest it's been in my natural state. Maybe how I've been doing things isn't working. I'm going to add the oil rinse first then the tea leave in.

How long do you leave your protective style in?

Well, I used a water based gel on my hair in combination with a curling sponge -- the one made out of rubber/silicone by Kiss brand under Bow Wow 👨🏾🦱 the rapper's name (not the actual sponge material), so I don't think oil rinsing will work on the weeks I do that as it would prevent the gel from acting the way I need it to in order to give me the results I need . I DO pre-poo on most wash days. But is using those curling sponges just a death sentence to your hair regardless of what precautions you take? Cuz it's bout the only style I can do myself that looks good with my 4z (that's right --- I said "Z") hair. But then I think of all the people that have tightly coiled styles still manage to grow long hair. How they retain & grown their length in spite of the detangling process is BEY🙄ND me 🤦🏾♂️!!

I have a question for you I put henna in my hair and it turn my gray bright orange it’s a little better now but is there a way to get it out , without cutting my hair I cut the side way down so I have gray on the sides of which I love but the top omg. Any secret to fix this? Really enjoy you information and tips. I maybe to old for some as I believe your growth slow at my age.

You can put indigo on the bright areas to tone them down. There’s two great fb groups for henna for hair. Lots of good advice.

My hair is so fine that It doesn’t matter what I do my ends always, always get single strand knots. After washing my hair I try to do braids or twists to stretch my hair when I take down a few days later my hair is wavy on the roots and tangled on the ends I don’t get it. I’ve been a natural for about 7 years now but my hair doesn’t get past my ears I can’t enjoy my hair, just the last 4 weeks I’ve cut my ends twice I’m resorting to stretching it with heat before tucking away in a bun but I’m afraid the heat is damaging my hair. Sometimes I just want to give up, all this work for nothing lol. 😞

Hang in there, sometimes it just takes an awfully long time to learn our hair. Maybe you should not have cut your hair twice in two weeks, probably not split in probably just dry. I am almost six years natural and I do think as the hair gets longer you get more single strand knots? I am now trying gel on my ends and that seems to be keeping the ends as they say from getting too affectionate with each other. You will still get some tangling but maybe not as many. Keep those ends very moisturized. Keep on that satin bonnet.

I currently put my natural hair in mini twists 1 week ago, I was planning to wash it next week with the twists in as they took a few hours to do and then keep this protective style for another 2 weeks (basically 1 month in total with washes every 2 weeks). But I've been experience fairy knots & dry ends lately eventhough I moisturise my hair (aloe vera/clove water mix w/ leave in & ayuverdic oil almost daily) Will washing my natural hair in it's mini twists increase my fairy knots or cause more tangles? I really didn't want to undo my mini twists yet as they took so long (btw I have 4c low porosity hair)

It depends on your hair. I can't go more than 1 week in a braid or twist without my hair locking up so, I do simple 10 braids or a maximum of 30 twists or 20 twaids on my hair and wash every 7 days or a maximum of 8 days however, I use hair grease on my ends which I think has helped with fairy knots. I also do a lot of wash n gos with heavy gels and this has also helped with fairy knots.

@@uberhaute_naturalz84 I've just seen you r reply, thank you! I might try that (I feel like mini twists / braids gives me a fuller look though it takes longer to do). I wash my hair every 2 weeks but honestly it needs to be every 9-10 days as this is when I start to notice the product build up. I'm planning to put my hair mini braids next weekend but I'll also try heavy gels as well. I currently use Camille Rose's curl maker which been good so far, I've been trying to find natural gels (made out of aloe vera, marshmallow extract etc...) for styling.

@@LRH1 Like imagine if when you tried to separate part of your hair and all the strands are kinda holding on to each other. Like it makes a web across without it being tangled if that makes sense? Like it's meshing a bit
