My father told me when I was quite young that failure is when you know you're in the game. If you don't fail, it's because you're not trying, and if you're not trying, then you're standing on the sidelines. Failure is where the learning happens, it's the building block to success. If you never fail, you never learn. It's a lesson I took with me through life and probably the best lesson I ever learned.

Why is it so hard to accept the flaws in yourself, when it's so easy to accept the flaws in a friend?
@daisychain30073 жыл бұрын
I think that the reason we cannot accept flaws in ourselves, Sandra, is because ,in our childhood, that we get told we are clumsy, stupid, etc. How many times has a well-meaning parent said to us: "Let me do it for you" when he or she sees you struggling, but the trouble with not allowing your child to do anything because you are afraid that he or she will mess it up is that you are preventing him or her from learning and progressing. Struggling is part of progress, part of independence.
@Ela.8.893 жыл бұрын
@@daisychain3007 this is so true! My parents always done things "for me". As an adult I told them that it would have been nice if they let me do things by myself when I was a little Girl (like to buy ice cream or something) and the interessting thing about is that my mom told me that it went faster if she did it herself... and that really hit me! I am always struggling with the thoughts that I don't can do the symple things because I can't do it (good enough) and now I know where this thoughts comes from. This is why I don't really into having kids on my own you can destroy them and won't even notice...this is so scary!

Happy Valentines Day to all the Fairyland Cottage community. It is quite cold here in New England in the USA. Today is just a day for total relaxation, listening to music and just being present and grateful. And enjoying being with my hubby and our dog.

I hug myself...I know it may sound strange but if I'm feeling down or start to talk to myself in a negative fashion I stop and hug myself. For some reason it feels kind and gentle and reminds me to be gentle to myself. If I can hug someone to help them feel better why not hug myself 🥰❤

“We all have different situations, whether we’re living alone or with our partners or our family, but one thing is for sure, we all have to live with ourselves.” A simple observation that makes all the difference. Thank you so much for this beautiful video.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It was so soothing. I was brought up in a household that taught me from childhood that mistakes are only made if you don't care enough. Over 30 years and I still have that cruel inside voice every time I make a mistake or something goes wrong. I don't like that voice and I still try hard every day to make it stay silent. I can care about every aspect of something, but mistakes and accidents just happen sometimes. It is never the end of the world, nor even the last time I'll try.

I always find peace and grace in your videos. I spent this month on my channel creating rituals for self-acceptance. I realized a while ago that self-care didn’t work for me because I didn’t love aspects of myself, and that was because I didn’t accept aspects of who I am. These fundamentals are so key. Many blessings and Happy Self-Acceptance day! 😃🤗🙏🏽🥰 It’s my personal rebranding of Valentines day 😃

Happy Valentines Day, dear! I’m single, so I’ve celebrated by showering before dawn, fixing my hair and putting on a little bit of makeup. I’ve lingered in the smells of fresh laundry. Cooked pancakes and an egg and steak omelette for breakfast, and cleaned the kitchen including the floors. We all have our comforts. 🤷♀️😂😂 🥰🥰🌹💋❤️💋🌹🥰🥰

Taking the time to take care of yourself, while also taking the time to teach others how important it is to take care of themselves. How magnificent is that! Love! What a special lady. Happy Valentine's Day!

Thank you for your beautiful Valentines Self Care video, filled with wise words and kind thoughts. I live alone, and I am learning to speak to myself as though speaking to a best friend. When I find myself telling myself that I am stupid when I do not achieve, or berating myself, I stop, take a breath… and remind myself to speak kindly and with words of encouragement. The change from blame and shame, to kindness and it’s ok, you did your best, was difficult at first, and even now I can forget, but with practice it does get easier, and often now the conversations I have with myself, make me smile or even laugh out loud. I have found that it really helps to imagine you are having a conversation with a best friend, I imagine she is sitting with me, I can see her face, and I start to talk more calmly, and gently, discussing what she (I) did to cause the negative talk. Now over time my best friends face fades, and the kind, supportive, even funny words are for me.

During the pandemic, there was so much focus on the bad and the negative. I learned to limit my exposure to the news. I enjoyed hearing what you had to say about being your own best friend. It reminded me to speak softer and kinder to myself. Thank you❣

Niamh you have taught me so much about womanhood, watching your videos birthed so many good habits in me , from being more organized to taking care of myself better by making healthy home cooked meals to gardening to starting to document my life in the countryside, the list is endless. On this day I just want to let you know you are deeply loved and appreciated. Thank you Niamh, Happy Valentine's Day 😍🤗💜

"What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly" I live by this quote and have done for years. I used to get very stressed and down trodden because I found the things I liked doing, were not considered the 'norm'....especially for my age group. I thought I was a boring person (and a bit strange) for not wanting to go out drinking with friends, for listening to old music (I have no idea what's popular now lol) for preferring my garden over social outings with people I simply couldn't relate too. For the excitement of a 'Sunday drive' in the country, a simple packed lunch and a walk along an empty shore. Now, I accept my uniqueness as a strength, not a hindrance. Absolutely lovely video, possibly my favorite of yours...a very important message 😊

Happy Valentine’s Day, Fairyland Cottage family. Thank you for these slow, gentle reminders of how to care for ourselves, Niamh; I think I’ll try incorporating your caring habits into my journaling practice. After having just beat myself up a bit for failing to cross off my daily habit list in that same journal, this seems like a sensible and loving exchange to make. Meanwhile, would you mind describing the little tray that you snipped microgreens/sprouts from to go with the pizza you made in this video? I like the idea of growing a palm-sized amount at a time! Thank you, LZ

Thank you for a lovely video, as always. For me, when I came to understand there is no value for me in not loving or accepting myself as I am, I truly found my happy place is with me. Unconditional self acceptance is life changing. The wonderful part is I get to spend 24/7 with me and don't need anything to change outside myself to find happiness. Thank you for sharing your sweet peaceful place with us.

Lovely, comforting, peaceful and wise advice. I notice there is extremely little use of plastic. Mostly natural products in the home. Very wise, indeed. Also natural toothpaste kept in a glass jar. Very inspiring way of life. Thank you.
