“ When your own thoughts are forbidden, when your questions are not allowed and our doubts are punished, when contacts with friendships outside of the organization are censored, we are being abused, for the ends never justify the means. When our heart aches knowing we have made friendships and secret attachments that will be forever forbidden if we leave, we are in danger. When we consider staying in a group because we cannot bear the loss, disappointment and sorrow our leaving will cause for ourselves and those we have come to love, we are in a cult… If there is any lesson to be learned it is that an ideal can never be brought about by fear, abuse, and the threat of retribution. When family and friends are used as a weapon in order to force us to stay in an organization, something has gone terribly wrong." - Deborah Layton, Ex People's Temple member

I watched this very same thing happen in Keizer Oregon in the 80's. A grandfather was abusing his granddaughter. I saw the big crocodile tears coming down his face when he faced the elders. No one called the police. When I said I was going to call the police then all eyes were on me. I was going to be responsible for dragging God's name through the mud just as you said.

The second my son told me that my husband had hurt him, the husband would be history. I am a Christian (garden variety, nothing interesting). God Himself couldn't convince me to allow anyone to stay in my life who would hurt my children. I'll never understand women who allow this.

Exactly! I came from alot of domestic violence in my family with my folks. And these woman aren't strong with faith they're very unwise. I could never belong to this cult because I dont allow to be degraded as a woman or Christian or my kids to be abused. In another words you cant be a wise woman that knows her worth in Gods eyes.

Marianne Havisham I am so sorry!! I’d have killed him myself to protect you if I’d been your mum. My children are now 23 and 17, and I would still run through fire for them. I didn’t have a mum like that. Mine was abusive. So I became the kind of mother I wanted. That healed me more than years of therapy ever did. ❤️ I’m sorry you didn’t get the protection you deserved. Sending you love from Michigan, USA.

Fascinatingly group the moderator keeps the discussion lively. It tears out your insides to hear the stories of abuse, or "apostate driven lies". It's clear that you can have a "clean congregation" yet have numbers of child rapists. If two unmarried, consenting adults have sex they must be removed from the group while the abusers stay. How can.the JW's stay in business when wonderful, intelligent, and well-spoken people wake up and leave? Who's left? Harassing Marc and Cora was a huge mistake. They are two wonderful, attractive and driven people. With their leadership they have exposed the bizarre beliefs of the Watchtower to 1000's

@Hillary Is Evil - That would be because many of us realised we don't need your imaginary friend in the sky or his zombie son in order to be happy and have fulfilling lives. Have you ever really *looked* at the biblical "god"? It's a monster deserving of nothing but contempt*.. and most certainly not worship. * 2 Kings 2:23-25

@Garryck-1
@Garryck-1 5 жыл бұрын
@Hillary Is Evil - Wow.. what's with the personal attacks? I didn't call you names.. but in both of your replies to me, you've been extremely rude.. not exactly displaying proper christian behaviour, are you? So you want facts? Something that proves what a monster your god is? Here's one, direct from your bible. But first, I would like to briefly digress to pose a hypothetical situation to you. Imagine that a substitute teacher is responsible for a fifth grade class. During the course of the morning, he finds it necessary to visit the office. On his way back, he hears noise coming from his classroom. Without his presence, the students have started misbehaving. When he gets to the class, he sees that students are walking around the room, talking and laughing with each other, and throwing paper airplanes. When they notice that he has returned, some of the bolder ones start to insult him. They call him names and everyone has a laugh at his expense. Obviously, the teacher has lost control of the class. So, to set matters right, he calmly closes the door, locks it, and goes to his desk. He opens the drawer and takes out a hunting knife. Reaching for the student in the first row, he cleanly slits her throat and flops her back into her seat. The next student doubles over in pain after being stabbed in the stomach. A boy running for the door is caught and stabbed several times in the back. Eventually, the teacher catches them all and leaves the room filled with blood and carnage. He then walks out, cleans up, and reports back to the office for his next assignment. The following day, the local newspaper describes the scene in the classroom and publishes an editorial defending and justifying the teacher’s actions. I’m sure you will agree that this story is not only sick and depraved, but it is also unfathomable that society would condone the actions of this psycho. Now, let’s tell another story. Elisha was an early prophet of God. He was used by God on several occasions, and was the natural successor to the prophet Elijah. He was an authority figure appointed by God himself. One day, some small boys began to heckle him. Here is what he did: He went up from there to Bethel; and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore fortytwo of the boys. From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and thence he returned to Sama'ria. - 2 Kings 2:23-25 Forty two young children were savagely murdered because they insulted a bald man. The story is recorded in our moral guidebook, the Bible. Elisha was a righteous man, one that we would do well to imitate. Could someone please explain the difference between a criminally insane mass murderer and a prophet of God? I can’t seem to see any difference. So.. you appear to worship a "god" who, when requested by one of his followers, brutally slaughtered young children simply because they were rude. I wonder what your god thinks about your rudeness to me? (Oh, and I totally agree with you about Hilary. But then, I also feel that way about Donald.)

Steel Dutchess there were many reasons. The science of the flood did not work. It could not happen. There is not enough water to flood the earth. The date 607 does not work. JWs bass their entire belief system on that date. The abuse of children and the cover up. The governing body does not care about anyone but themselves. The idea of "new light" does not work. Why would Jehovah tell his people one thing and 5 years later tell them the truth. And the last thing was I suppose to throw away all of the old book in the Kingdom Hall.
@steeldutchess
@steeldutchess 7 жыл бұрын
When did this "new light" with "generations" thing happen? I left in 2009, I think??? (I'm not good with dates) And they were still counting the anointed ones, waiting for them to die off lol I said "once they die, the organization will come up with some BS explanation to keep you all waiting" and they said "na-ah! Armageddon will for certain come before they die! You will see!" I underestimated the governing body: they decided to come up with some BS explanation way before the deadline. Good job! lol

Steel Dutchess they changed it many times. In fact their understanding of the generation teaching was changed 8 times. The last time in 2010. When I was a kid the end was going to come by 2000 when all of the generation that saw 1914 were still going to be alive when Armageddon came

"Being seen doing the right thing is more important to them than doing the right thing!" I wholeheartedly agree with that. I went to a congregation after having stepped down as an elder years prior, and was called to meet with 2 elders one day. They were more concerned with their "visibility" policy than whether or not I was regular in the field ministry! I had been going out during the midweek days and on Saturdays for months. There were days when I didn't see the elder/conductor there on Saturdays, and there were days when we were asked to meet with other groups because our group overseer was out of town. But I was still spending 12-15 hours a month in the ministry. So these knucklehead elders, said they didn't see me out in service very much, and were concerned about me "being visible" if I was to be appointed a servant or elder. "Being visible to who? You? Come to think of it, I've never seen you out in service brother, in the year that I've been here! " I said. So now, if anyone ever says that to me again, then I'm citing these 3 scriptures: 1. Galatians 1: 10--"Am I seeking to please men?" (The apostle Paul)... or the Christ?" 2. Ephesians 6: 6,..."not doing thigs with acts of eye-service" ("Hey, look at me!") 3. Col. 3: 22....."you slaves, be obedient... not with acts of eye service; pleasing men, but in truth."

I used to be a Jehovah's witnesses. it's a religion that tears family's apart and isolates them from any "wordly" contact meaning you are to have no friends that aren't also in the religion leaving you utterly alone of you leave making it feel like a life ending decision weather to leave or stay, disfellowshiping a person leaving them without any friends or family leaving them exposed to a world that they make seem terrifying and is out to get you is so unbelievably wrong it takes a person years to recover from the trauma, I know because my family hasn't spoken to me in three years, because I had sex before marriage now even if that something you believe is wrong should i have to be shunned by my entire family and all of my friends? I am lucky that I had other ex Jehovah's witnesses to help guide me and the man o had sex with before marriage is now my husband and I can't begin to describe our love and how happy I am and how incredibly free i feel now

What the host said (5:13) really struck me: "Being seen to be doing the right thing is so much more important than doing the right thing as a Jehovah's Witness." My field service hours were so phenomenal that the elders didn't believe me as well. I woke up early during the week, I nurtured my returned visits and bible studies. I didn't join the field service groups because, quite frankly, I was ticked off by the contempt these elders were showing me; so they never saw me in the ministry. I had submitted my pioneer application several months ago which they ignored; several. I was a pioneer except in name. They even admitted at the end that I was clocking in the most time in the congregation -- more than the recognised pioneers -- but they conveniently reminded me that it's not about the time. Yeah, it's true; but if you've done that amount of time consistently it's so easy to minimise effort involved, both physically and psychologically. These men were trying to erode my constitution. They found imaginative ways in limbo. My academics suffered, but that was my load to carry. In the end when I submitted my letter of resignation owing to the net effect the oppression, contempt, deceit, it was me who was said to be spiritually wanting. "Spiritually weak" they said. It's an achievement that I didn't K.O. one of them. It really is... So the fact that I was doing what was right was irrelevant for I was not *seen* to be doing it. Yet, I believe there is a scripture that says don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your father who looks on in secret can reward you. Where was God's spirit when they were making their decisions? How can truth be cloaked my so much lies. It occurred to me later on that there _is_ not Jehovah in all of this... it's a farce of epic proportion.

I got baptized (age 16) to appease my mother and stop her from pressuring me all the time. I never liked "field service", so I started cooking my books almost immediately. @Nick French It's horrendous what happened to you! This paedophile really pursued YOU, not your mom. She was seduced into thinking he was a good guy to get to you. There is NO excuse for what happened to you and your brother. May he ROT in eternal HELL! I hope you can get a monetary settlement and a letter of apology from the WTB&TS (publishing company). I wouldn't hold my breath for the letter, though. Hugs from the U.S. Happy to be out

I think it was good that she was there. People that are not witnesses listening to these ex JW's would not understand the terminology, the cult talk, that Jehovah's witnesses use. She would stop him and explain what it was. We take jw language for granted because we know the cult talk. People on the outside (the worldly) wouldn't know. You have to be a Jehovah witness to know the loaded language and what it means.

I'll go directly to Nick's website for more info because I find this unwatchable. These types of testimony are important and it is nauseating to see them used as a vehicle for dubious comedy with the use of expletives.

Your are basing your vilification and ridicule of JWs on the misbehavior of a few bad apples, seeking out other dissidents to share their victim stories at your crying party. You're neither helping them nor yourself by refusing to take responsibility for your choices in life. Why don't you quit playing the 'victim of JWs', stop blaming other people for your loss of faith and get a life. Good luck finding a "fun religion" ... was that a slip of the Freudian tongue?

Katy Wendell A few bad apples? I think the stats show the database of paedophiles alone they have is more than a few. It's the bad environment they've created that allows these monsters to prey on their victims.

"Thus did the Jehovah’s Witnesses build what might be the world’s largest database of undocumented child molesters: at least two decades’ worth of names and addresses-likely numbering in the tens of thousands-and detailed acts of alleged abuse, most of which have never been shared with law enforcement, all scanned and searchable in a Microsoft SharePoint file". www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2019/03/the-secret-jehovahs-witness-database-of-child-molesters/584311/

Elihu Rodriguez, 32, of Yakima, Washington, was given five years, the maximum sentence prosecutors had asked for, after Rodriguez pleaded guilty to three felony counts of child rape in the third degree in September. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender. Both of his victims attended the sentencing, which took place Friday at the King County Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, Washington. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/man-who-raped-jehovah-s-witness-girls-sentenced-5-years-n1082136
