Fake Benchmade 940 - I GOT HUSTLED IN A TRADE! Reviewing a Clone & Comparison to a Real Osborne

My father got duped in April for $130 on a 940, looks like the same box. Labeled s90v box and blade said s30v. It was my bday present, I'm 48, so I had to break it to him unfortunately. Mine was green aluminum. Another tell tale sign is the machining lines on a real one. Thanks for helping the community and putting this out there, you may have saved a person and saving even one means counterfeit loses a sale!

Nah, I can fully understand someone buying a good clone of a very expensive knife so they can see how it feels to carry, I did it for a Bugout. I'd rather spend 160$ and know I'll like it than 140$ and hate it. (EDIT: counterfeits are terrible and you should not support them, I meant copies not clones)

Except a lot of the time you aren't getting the real experience. Look at rhis very video. This 940 clone that isn't even close. It's got plastic handles and terrible fit and finish. If someone bought that thinking they were going try out a 940 before buying the real thing they wouldn't get anywhere close to a real try.

I purchased a 940-1 on Amazon in Europe and received a fake. It was delivered in the correct box with the correct pouch and papers, but it was a terrible counterfeit! I tried to write a negative review on Amazon, but they denied it. This thing was so bad, I had to force the blade out! It even said S30V on the blade! Ever seen a Benchmade in CF and S30V? I think it's bad on Amazon not to accept the review, people should know. The seller probably took the original 940-1 and swapped it for a cheap copy in the original box. I have photos of it saved. The worst part is I payed retail for it, but of course got it refunded. I ended up getting the original 940-1 cheaper from an European online store!

I'm sorry you got scammed! It's one thing for someone to buy a clone to feel better about their EDC, but it's another to screw someone else over in a trade or sale.

I purchased a 940-1 recently from a reputable knife vendor. It was sold to me as an open box knife that was returned to them by a previous customer. It was the exact knife that you show in this video. The vendor took it back and retuned my purchase price plus shipping both ways. His previous customer likely purchased two knives and sent the counterfeit in the genuine box to the vendor for a full refund. So the crook got a genuine Benchmade for a fake price, and an honest vendor was taken. Beware, any time you buy one of these pricey items… verify it and examine it closely!

you can get these for 13$ on wish but compared to my original i prefer carrying the fake purely because of the chance of losing my og one and its still not a bad 13$ knife, not as high quality but still im not gonna cry over losing this one but in your case i would be pissed too.

Thats why I get cheap knives on amazon with their own designs as beaters. Its so hard not to carry the nicer ones tho but the risk is too high

That is just messed up! At first I was thinking maybe the person didn't know but then you talked about how the person sent you pictures of a totally different knife. It'd be hilarious to send the blade in to be tested to see what the steel actually is. I am guessing it is something like 440A. Sorry this happened to you. Thank you for sharing this with us. What would happen if you bought one of these, thinking it was real, and then send it to benchmade for sharpening? Would they sharpen it and send it back or destroy it bc its patent infringement? Or would they send it back to you, but refuse to perfom any service?

Thinking they wouldn't send it back because it's a slap in their face. Sure would be a drag if someone didn't know, spent the money for a real one and found out after sending it to Benchmade.

I have both original and clone, and to be honest, the clone is better in many ways . I’ve sold the original and kept the clone.

I’ve been taken before and of course the seller has NO IDEA lol.. The fakes are getting so good that you have to be careful but yes the best tell tale is the raised Butterfly, if you can feel it and it’s thick on the blade it’s crap and I’ve actually handled a fake Contego that the Butterfly was barely there. @@DocP91B it was worth a shot we try to get a few clones here and there to keep up on what’s being done to clone our stuff the lengths that they will take are mind blowing to be honest the best thing I can tell you or your subs is to by direct from us or from somebody you 1000% trust but still check the knife bc they may have got a clone from somebody their self so always check any benchmade and the best advise is to do face to face deals so you can handle the knife for yourself

Just picked up a 9400 from Benchmade to be sure it was genuine. Just fyi the Benchmade logo is below the grind line on it. No doubts about authenticity. Unfortunately there is a large market for clones.

Sure seems your looking at a 90/10 percent chance of getting a fake if you don't buy from Benchmade directly. Or someone like Blade HQ etc. I bought a fake mini Bugout.

I just got took for for benchmade Knives off of eBay! A Osborne 940 carbon fiber and a Bugout 535. I have an authentic mini Bugout and was comparing them to it when they came in and man what a disappointment. I am totally depressed over this! I can’t believe it’s that big of a problem on eBay. Lesson learned I guess. I got so many pics pointing out everything that’s wrong. It’s even a little different from the one you’re showing here.

@@DocP91B yeah I sucks man. I kinda splurged on these two knives as they haven’t really been in the budget but saved for them both just to get screwed over. I knew they were out there but really thought eBay wouldn’t let this happend. I have about a 100 orders I’ve made on eBay over the span of a couple years and have never returned or asked for a refund on anything. Hoping that helps to remedy this. The Osborne is a pretty good fake for someone who doesn’t know but the Bugout is horrible. When closed the tip of the blade doesn’t even sit all the way down inside the scales. 🤦🏼‍♂️it’s bad.

@@FALLONMICHAEL1022 you can try filing a claim. With payapal or ebay for counterfeit items. It's about 50/50 you'll get your money back. But you've got nothing to lose by trying.

Sorry that you got tricked..really wanted a 940 carbon but the price was just absurd so ended up ordering a clone like this from wish and what do you know..it.s being shipped from usa..i don.t support clones but i wanted this tipe of blade shape and ganzo g7562 is not availble for sale..it.s not a bad knife comsidering the price of a clone..you get what you pay.

I really don’t understand why anyone would pay so much for a mediocre knife at best. I really haven’t had good experience with benchmade. They are not anything like KZbin people say . I’ve had bad grinds, one had grit in the action, then add the mark up because it’s USA made. I only keep my D2 grip because it was the worst knife I ever spent so much on. On a side note I’d use the fake then you won’t mess up your other ones. Because the fact is nothing you showed will make it preform different. The only thing is not knowing the steel an with any knife heat treatment is a crap shoot at best. Just take it has a lesson even the best get hustled.

Wrong. That's the same materials, made in the same factories that produce for reputable American brands, with the precision they are capable of. Blade may be D2 od 9Cr 18moV, which is not bad. What is bad is that the Made in USA is sooooo terribly expensive, overpriced is the right word.
