Sponsored by Bostik, Are you trying to get a brick wall look without bricklaying? Try using the Bostik Brick Effect Render system.
The faux brick wall system is applied in two easy steps, starting with a grey mortar undercoat. Once this is touch-dry it's followed by a coloured face coat which is cut through with a specialised tool included in the pack to expose the grey mortar underneath, creating a brick and mortar joint effect.
Both coats are polymer modified render, offering excellent adhesion and weather resistance whilst remaining vapour permeable.
Andrew Hamman, category manager for Bostik, commented:
“With the summer months approaching, merchants are likely to see an increase in demand for external renovation and refurb products. Our new Brick Effect Render system provides a simple, effective way to revive the appearance of walls that may need to be updated - such as garden walls or prefabricated buildings.”

Garden State face brick use to do that to house around New York. They were fast and it looked good. My friends house had it on for 40 years before they put siding over it.

I think that would work well. Maybe put a little dent in the surface with a churn brush. I would like to have tried some black flecks in those bricks just to see.

Some of the brickwork courses look smaller 😃
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
+David Vallerius Well done David. You are the first one to spot it. I used a piece of timber batten and marked off courses from the house wall but what I hadn't figured was the slight variation in the brick sizes which is accommodated in the mortar beds. When those variations are transferred to the fake work the beds are all exactly the same so the variation appears in the bricks. On the next job I measured the courses with a tape and it was better.
@davidvallerius4458
@davidvallerius4458 8 жыл бұрын
Standard brickwork courses are 75mm , if you start at the top and work to the bottom if the last course is smaller it doesn't notice because of the difference in finished floor levels which should be 150mm below your damp course 😃

@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 8 жыл бұрын
I agree about the red and the answer is 'Yes you can mix and throw other dyes onto it. There are other manufacturers who do something a little different. I would want to put a black fleck on it. If you look around you will see some people have managed to make this idea work really well.

***** I had never done it before the video. I think it is one of the easiest wall coatings you can do but I can't speak for others.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 9 жыл бұрын
***** Funnily enough that is the mistake I made with this job. You can see the variation in the courses. I took the marks off an existing wall and transferred them. With real bricks you get slightly variations in the bricks that are then made up in the mortar beds but with all the beds being exactly the same on the fake work the variation shows in the bricks. You can see a course of big bricks followed by smaller ones. Next job I will use a tape measure. You live and learn
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 9 жыл бұрын
***** That is an unknown but the company says it will outlast sand and cement because of the polymers. I would expect the colour to fade after 20 years or so especially red which is susceptible to U.V but it has shown no signs of fading yet. We live in hope

Could you apply it on metal lath over osb board?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 9 жыл бұрын
You could do that but why not use a cement based board and go straight on without the bother of metal lath? If you do go onto metal lath over OSB use OSB 3 and tack a vapour barrier over the board before you fix the metal lath,
