This is, by far, the nicest and most natural faux brick wall using Home Depot panels that I've seen on KZbin. I've been tempted by the expensive masonite 'brick' panels that would total $1500-2000 for my accent wall. This is incredibly affordable yet seems to look great (at least from afar, lol). I also really appreciate the paint vs joint compound info. The compound method seems incredibly messy plus still requires a sealer. 😵

Hey Amy - great work! I’m using this technique for a back drop wall during live streams on my channel. I’ll be sure to give you a shoutout - you’re super close to the coveted 1k sub mark 😁. Although I doubt our audiences overlap much 😂 So I bought the same panels at Home Depot and noticed you touched up the grout on your panels, yes? I assume that was the paint and not the spackle, right? I also noticed the gross orange hue it takes on after drying.

This is the best brick panel accent wall I have seen! The seams bother me on most, but I can't even see yours. What did you use to apply the pink spackle/ putty knife and wipe off the brick? When you did the final white primer paint on the brick, you did not paint the grout lines, correct?
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! That was what bothered me as well I did not want to be able to see a seam down the middle of the wall. I just used my fingers to apply the spackle it was easier than using a putty knife for me and I would go over then seam more than once if I had to. And yes when it came to the final white paint for the brick I sponged it on instead of painting it to help better minimize the seam.

This is a great video, very helpful, thank you for sharing. I am tackling these panels for a very large feature wall. With our decor, I'd rather do a darker wash. Do you think this would work/look good? Would you suggest trying to match up the grout colour of the panel.
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
Your welcome! I think if you did a gray wash instead of white it would look good. I'm not sure how dark you want to go. If you have extra pieces of the panel left over you could do some test spots to see if you like how it looks before you do it on your wall. And if you don't want to change the grout color then yes I would try to match it so you can hide your seams!

Thanks for sharing, this looks wonderful. You did an amazing job! I have a question regarding your shelving. How do you hang things (especially heavy things) from your wall once your brick tile has been applied? How were you able to locate your studs?
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Our shelves are actually hung up by joist hangers on the side walls so there isn't anything where the brick panels are. I'm not sure if a stud finder would work but it might cuz the panels are pretty thin. But if you don't have one you could find a switch or power outlet which are usually attached to stud and measure 16inches from there since studs are usually 16 inches apart. We knew where ours were based on the nail holes in the crown molding. Hope that's helpful!

Hey Amy!! The wall looks amazing. I m trying to do something similar for Media room. Just so I make sure I got everything right. You started with covering the seam with spackle. Also you used primer not paint, so any primer would work for this? Thanks

How big of sections did you paint before you started distressing it? Or did you paint the whole thing white then distressed it
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
I did pretty small sections probably less than 10 bricks at a time. It was just easier for me that way. I wouldn't do the whole wall first cuz it would dry too much and get a lot harder to distress the paint.

Does the Zinser need to be wet or dry when you are removing with the scratch pad?
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
I let it get JUST dry enough where you can't see shiny paint anymore..about 5 minutes. Otherwise if its wet it just smears the paint around. Doing this I only did about 5 or 6 bricks at a time.

Why not use less white paint and not wait so much until it's dry? Wouldn't it be easier?
@AmyLynn1
@AmyLynn1 2 жыл бұрын
I can see where you're getting at but if I used less paint you'd be able to see the brush strokes or bare spots even after distressing so I needed the bricks to be completely opaque to get the look I was going for. Also if you don't wait for the paint to dry enough all that's going to do is smear the paint around giving you more of a white wash look rather than distressed. You don't have to wait long for it to dry but you need some of the paint to actually stick to the bricks not just smear all over.

I don’t have an extra piece of the brick, that’s why I was asking. Also, did you paint in between the bricks first? Then go back and paint the bricks? sorry for all the questions. I just wanna make sure I do this right. I couldn’t tell if you took the spackle and did in between the bricks and then painted or if you just painted the faux cement. Thanks so much

@@tamidonnelly714 sorry for the late reply! If you go to my channel and click on the community page I posted a picture of the custom color I used. I filled in my seam first and did go to the sides a bit with spackle just to blend it in so it wasn't an obvious line down the middle. Then I painted the bricks that had the seam the red paint color then went ahead with the white wash and did all the bricks and the "mortar" at the same time. Hope that helps!

Lol not a stupid question! I used a damp sponge I actually had a bucket of water with me that way I could rinse off the paint quickly otherwise your sponge will just get full of paint and smear all around.

I just used Zinsser FastPrime2 primer & sealer. You can see a picture of the can at 0:26 seconds. Honestly you can use any white paint you want I just recommend a flat or matte white. I just used that one because I already had it at home. And for the brick color paint I went to Sherwin Williams with a cut off brick from the panel and had them color match it and just got a sample size of paint. Hope that helps!

Did you put the Drydex in the grout lines around the faux brick and then paint? It looks thick in the grout lines. I purchased rather pricey faux panels for a fireplace but they look to yellowy for the grayish white room they were installed in. The manufacturer told me I will void the warranty if I alter the panels which are a high-density polyurethane. Trying to come up with a solution without damaging the faux panels. Prefer this look over the panel we purchased. I wish I could send you a pic for some advice. Thanks. Show less

The only place I put the Drydex was down the one seam, and slightly to the left and right of the seam to blend it in. But not around all the other bricks
