Fake Portable Air Conditioners Scam - Which ACs really work? (Watch before you buy)

The problem is that they use the same term on Amazon, "portable air conditioner", both for actual AC units that vent the heated air through a window using an exhaust hose, and for crappy little pieces of junk that don't vent the heated air outdoors at all. My (real) portable AC from Black and Decker does work; it cools my living room from by about degrees, so is a life saver and I'm grateful to have it. I also own a little "ice chest with a fan" which blows cold air on my as the ice melts... it does keep me more comfortable... but the effect is purely local; the room temperature does not change at all. If it's really hot outside (100 or 110 degrees), I use both. The Black and Decker unit can cool the room to 95 degrees; then the little ice chest with a fan from Etsy can blow on me for additional cooling. (My freezer, which freezes the ice in the ice chest, is in a separate building, so using it doesn't warm up my house.)

The Chinese government will hack you're website 😂 I'm glad you mentioned dehumidifiers , heating a house in the winter with the windows closed means your heating system is being used to move moisture around the house and create an unhealthy damp environment. . Running a good humidifier at the highest point in the house could save tons of money. When the heating goes off you feel the cold but also your feeling damp and bedding along with furniture has been warm but damp.. Last year in a 3 bed cottage i was removing a gallon of water and week using a good humidifier after it had been empty for a while.

Using a "portable air conditioner" can be compared to running a refrigerator with the door open. Not only do they allow hot air to enter the room through nooks and crannies around windows and doors because of the lower the air pressure in the room, but they also suck in, and pump out, the same cooled air that they just generated. In addition to that, the condenser is also located in the same room as the evaporator, and not all of that heat leaves the room via the hose, but is radiated by the device into the area that it should be cooling, which is also inefficient. Don't ever be tricked into buying a portable air conditioner. They all suffer from the same fundamental flaw. I moved to Germany about 10 years ago and still cannot convince people just how awful those things are. Both the condenser and compressor must be outside the area to be cooled. I can count on my fingers the number of times that I have seen a portable air conditioner in the US, as most are window units that do not suffer from this inefficiency, but the nature of German windows makes it impossible to install a window unit. I think that a split system is the way to go here.

It will cool you off a little by blowing cold air on you for a few minutes, but it will not change the room temperature at all. So don't waste your money.

Have you seen the ones on tik tok that look like a mini split but have no hose to the outside?

Haven't seen the TikToks but any device without a connection to the outside will not work! It's impossible. You can only cool a room by removing the heat and leading it outdoors somehow!
