With all due respect to everyone. but saying that EWC holds no value is straight up hypocritical. Like many other orgs and companies are backed by countries with shady ethics. Us Air Force endorcement and Tencent backed Riot are just some of those. There is a gradient to how shitty all of it is, but the tournament value to esports should be based on quality of the opposition the teams faced and EWC in that regard is quite high up there.

Very very long answer short, Islamophobia in media coverage. I'm sure an argument could be made about Chinese control of the media, but that's a bit conspiratorial. This is actually an issue in much of Asia, but there's a lot more general media coverage of this issue specifically in the Middle East. Never hear anything about LGBT hate crimes in China, and I personally rarely hear about the treatment of the Uyghurs these days even though that's such a massive issue, but I swear I hear about some violent event targetting women or the LGBT every few months in the Middle East.

First of all, no. This will not have leave any negative marks next to Fakers name. The politics have nothing to do with him. Now as to the question if this title holds any meaning: to me personally it does not, no. The way they tournament is set up, with little to no prep time and a single elimination bracket, this in no way shows us who is the best team. I am by no means a GenG fan, but if they win summer split and Worlds, i will still consider them to have won all major tournament this year. The Golden Road will be intact. Politics aside, this tournament adds nothing in terms of excitement and only takes away from the esports itself. With no build up and a poor structure, the tournament waters down the excitement for worlds, aswell as taking away some of the positivity that MSI left us with. I am happy that this event has given the esports some money to sustain itself, but i will be happier if its the last time Riot allows their teams to participate in it.

Just like how Riot used Faker's name to promote over the top prices for its supposed "celebrating Legends", this video is just using Faker's name to criticize an effort done to improve and bring up the esports scene. Moreover, i believe this is more so on just the prejudice of the Western hemisphere towards a part that is not West. Regarding the EWC, while League was sure one of the main pulling factors, it is just one discipline out of the many other titles. If you look into the other titles, you can see that a lot of major gaming organization have extended their hands into new titles that they might have not even spared any glances before. Even the 1.1m view of T1 was already smashed by the Mid Season Cup (MSC) of MLBB which also had 3x the prizepool. The teams have also had collabs with Western team like Fnatic (got into PH ID), Ninjas in Pyjamas (SG), Cloud9 (NA), Team Liquid (ID PH), Team Spirit (CIS). MLBB also has a Women's scene that attracts these gaming organization too.

I can't see how this win is any more or less of a problem than going to China and competing there against the same teams in the same game. LoL itself is owned by a Chinese company with ties to the country's government. It's silly to focus on this single tournament alone when LoL itself is the product of a country with a similar human rights track record to Sadia Arabia. If people really feel this way about the place that is hosting the event, then I don't see how they can defend watching or playing LoL at all.

Credits to T1, they won the tournament not against mediocre teams but against some of the best teams in the world. This only adds to Fakers legacy. Stop tying the game to politics, if the top teams/orgs cared about the politics, they wouldn't have sent their teams.
