Faker and T1 won a tournament last weekend. As news goes - that’s not particularly out of the ordinary.
But, the question is, will this go down as just another trophy in Faker’s cabinet - or his most controversial win yet?

A stain on Faker’s reputation? For what? Winning an international tournament? I understand the asterisk part, but that take by the “critic” was just absurd to me.

Plus they are clearly just a T1 haters, they are not attacking other team and other games in there. There is literally 21 games in there. League is not even the biggest one i terms of prizepool. What about Dota2? What about Pubg? Tekken? Cs2? and the rest, i don't see any same type cancellation at all. Plus the "Critics" is literally from twitter 😂, what type a journalism is this?

With all due respect to everyone. but saying that EWC holds no value is straight up hypocritical. Like many other orgs and companies are backed by countries with shady ethics. Us Air Force endorcement and Tencent backed Riot are just some of those. There is a gradient to how shitty all of it is, but the tournament value to esports should be based on quality of the opposition the teams faced and EWC in that regard is quite high up there.

Very very long answer short, Islamophobia in media coverage. I'm sure an argument could be made about Chinese control of the media, but that's a bit conspiratorial. This is actually an issue in much of Asia, but there's a lot more general media coverage of this issue specifically in the Middle East. Never hear anything about LGBT hate crimes in China, and I personally rarely hear about the treatment of the Uyghurs these days even though that's such a massive issue, but I swear I hear about some violent event targetting women or the LGBT every few months in the Middle East.

Team Liquid should keep their crap activism off of sports. No country is telling them to go to a mosque or pray. If they don't want to respect other country's culture and moral views, then don't play there. The same way, if they want to play in the west, they need to put up and shut up with what they don't agree with here, otherwise, stay home.

First of all, no. This will not have leave any negative marks next to Fakers name. The politics have nothing to do with him. Now as to the question if this title holds any meaning: to me personally it does not, no. The way they tournament is set up, with little to no prep time and a single elimination bracket, this in no way shows us who is the best team. I am by no means a GenG fan, but if they win summer split and Worlds, i will still consider them to have won all major tournament this year. The Golden Road will be intact. Politics aside, this tournament adds nothing in terms of excitement and only takes away from the esports itself. With no build up and a poor structure, the tournament waters down the excitement for worlds, aswell as taking away some of the positivity that MSI left us with. I am happy that this event has given the esports some money to sustain itself, but i will be happier if its the last time Riot allows their teams to participate in it.

So we will pretend that all others world cup for ex in football or else doesnt have the same problem? And beside that all rosters had their main 5, so yep tbh i dont see a issue or anything else in it And.. Tbh i like the ewc concept in term of bringing all esports main teams there to compete, so if other countries wants to do it and if teams can fit it in the calendar why not..

I think we can definitely have both things. I think having this relatively unknown region burst out in the sports world is cool! It gives people from there more opportunities to thrive in the industry (whether it's in sports or esports), but we also cannot forget and stop talking about their issues just because we're having a good time watching these events.

Okay do that with the usa when the next event is held there and lets see how much chaos such an innocent country caused to the world, and please speak to me in full details about nagazaki and heroshima. and please do not forget to mention Germany’s accomplishments when we see an event there, also don’t forget about the British occupation of, India, Egypt, and most of the middle eastern countries, when it host an event. Oh before I forget, during the next event in china, speak about muslims oppression and torture and how they ducked up players like ozil for just tweeting about an event that happened there. I guess my point has been proven, stop the hypocrisy. Thank you

I watch Esports to see my favorite team play or to watch the best win. I do not watch it to see what is company's stance in degenerate behaviors. When companies begin pushing agendas and start focusing on activism instead of focusing on what their customers want, they can count me out.

Respectfully, Western criteria for what the world ought to be like isn't exactly shared worldwide. Its typical American arrogance to try and pass judgment or critique completely out of context based on its own set of cultural values and norms. Next, this has nothing to do with Faker. Nothing to do with T1. Nothing to do with Riot. The tournament was generally fun to watch and a great effort considering it was their first ever. The only crime here is channels like this trying to clickbait and ragebait issues that really shouldn't exist.

They're there to do their job and play for their org, the fuck does the opinion of others matter? If Saudi money is where the financial stability and longterm financial backing is at, then as a player, you do what's right for yourself and take that opportunity. No amount of moral policing is gonna pay your salary, so why give a fuck to what other people will say? It's just business/a job bruh, they gotta pay their bills and make a living, that's just how it is.

Just like how Riot used Faker's name to promote over the top prices for its supposed "celebrating Legends", this video is just using Faker's name to criticize an effort done to improve and bring up the esports scene. Moreover, i believe this is more so on just the prejudice of the Western hemisphere towards a part that is not West. Regarding the EWC, while League was sure one of the main pulling factors, it is just one discipline out of the many other titles. If you look into the other titles, you can see that a lot of major gaming organization have extended their hands into new titles that they might have not even spared any glances before. Even the 1.1m view of T1 was already smashed by the Mid Season Cup (MSC) of MLBB which also had 3x the prizepool. The teams have also had collabs with Western team like Fnatic (got into PH ID), Ninjas in Pyjamas (SG), Cloud9 (NA), Team Liquid (ID PH), Team Spirit (CIS). MLBB also has a Women's scene that attracts these gaming organization too.

I can't see how this win is any more or less of a problem than going to China and competing there against the same teams in the same game. LoL itself is owned by a Chinese company with ties to the country's government. It's silly to focus on this single tournament alone when LoL itself is the product of a country with a similar human rights track record to Sadia Arabia. If people really feel this way about the place that is hosting the event, then I don't see how they can defend watching or playing LoL at all.

Stop tying the game to politics, if the top teams/orgs cared about the politics, they wouldn't have sent their teams.
