I like that you added to the roundness of the muzzle! These forms have a face looking more like an African Caracal than a North American Bobcat. Most people don't question this! They assume that the form must be correct because so-and-so sculpted them. NEVER ASSUME! The Bobcat has much more rounded features than these forms possess. Good Taxidermy skills here, Ben !

Looking great question is mounting a turkey the same as say and eagle
@ArtofTaxidermy3 жыл бұрын
Could be, but since its a heavy bodied bird I like to separate the legs and attach them separately.

Enjoyed your videos on bobcat mount. Where did you get the form from and base? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
Hi Billy , thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. The form and base is from McKenzie supply.

When working on bigger animals, how do you keep them from drying out? Do you mount them in one session?
@caitreed012 жыл бұрын
I saw you kept the head in a bag to keep him from drying, but I'm curious about the rest of the body
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
The hide paste keeps the skin fairly moist but I spray water from time to time to keep everything moist. Good question.
@ArtofTaxidermy2 жыл бұрын
On larger animals, I wrap a big plastic sheet if it’s necessary. I have left my mount for the night when they are so large I can’t finish in one day. I spray a lot of water on them and immediately wrap a big sheet of plastic all around it and it will stay moist till next morning.

How to you preserve the skin or hide. Are you using the spray bottle to do so? If so what is it? Thanks for the feedback.
@ArtofTaxidermy3 жыл бұрын
The skin has been tanned. The white liquid is PSE oil I spray on the hide.

What method do you use to tan skin for mounting? Can you share formula, or do you have any video here?
@ArtofTaxidermy3 жыл бұрын
I send 95% of my skins out to professional tanneries. I do small mammals with Krowtann.

@@ArtofTaxidermy can you tell me who does your tanning? I live in Mexico and would like to learn new methods.

When placing the eyes: Do you assume that the built in angle is accurate? Or does it not make a difference? The amount of clay you put in the eye sockets I guess, is not an issue, as long as the finale measurements are correct? What criteria do you use to get the pupil angle right?
@ArtofTaxidermy3 жыл бұрын
I usually place the eyes visually to the best of my ability as close as the reference pictures says. But I can push the eyes around in the clay for final adjustment. Usually about 5 degree angle inward for the top of the pupil is all I go for.

Are the pins permanent around the eyes and hidden or removed once it dries?
@ArtofTaxidermy3 жыл бұрын
They are removed after the skin is totally dried and the holes are covered with epoxy.
