Great vid, ive done a lot of gold leaf in the past doing custom automotive paint work. A sugestion i have is never touch the leaf with your bare fingers as there is a chance to leave oils on the product. In any case your results are phenomenal. Thanks

How did you get the black and gold look in the trim?

The black thread is Fuji Ultrapoly size A...the gold trim is gold metallic Fuji size A and the JTOB/twisted inlaid turns are Hitena USA Aurora Metallic in Khaki size A. Outstanding instructional videos, thanks for the time and effort you put into these. How critical is the size of the actual leaf? They seem to come in different sizes ranging from about 3.5 x3.5 up to 5x5. Can you get better results by using a larger piece, or can several smaller pieces be used effectively? Some of the specials colors that I would like to try are in the smaller sizes.

The leaf is just really delicate to handle and I personally find it easier going - generally - with a larger sized sheet. But use whatever you can get that you like the looks of - if you are meticulous and thorough I have not found that it changes the final look at all. Hope this helps!

Fish Talk absolutely you can. Although I’d probably only try it on a big surf or offshore rod.

Hi, I would like to consult you if possible : When I do the chevron and want to close it finally (As you do at 1:50, but first layer, not second), something strange happens to me, I try as hard as I can for the thread that closes the chevron to be close to each other, but it happens many times that the thread under which I have to cover is visible and then I make a second layer With respect to chevron. I wanted to ask if this thing is familiar and is there a way to deal with it ? Many thanks in advance

I'm sorry - happy to help but honestly don't understand the question. Do you mean tie off wraps instead of chevrons? Send me a private message and we'll figure it out...

If I close a chevron or any pattern, the threads from below are visible and I need to make another layer and then it becomes thick and not aesthetic, the question is from your experience there is a way to solve this So that in one black layer it will be perfect and will not see the wires from below ?

Where do you purchase your rod blanks, components, and finish supplies?

All over, honestly. I deal with The Rod Room in OBA a lot for Fuji and Point Blanks...Utmost Enterprises for Batson/ALPS products...all my fly components I get from Ron Weber at Southwest Custom Rods...blanks from CTS, Thrasher, Mudhole, Get Bit, Angler's Workshop...sorta depends on what I am looking for. I do recommend shopping locally to avoid shipping on blanks if you can.
