The DPE problem is the biggest problem addressed! Most DPEs now are not even responding to repeated phone calls and/or texts. This pressures candidates not to discontinue for weather or illness for fear of adding another 4 months onto their checkride.

Ive had my app in for over a year to become a DPE. I was told by the manager that they were not looking at adding any 😂

Thanks! I am a private pilot and am glad they are loosening the LSA market some because GA needs more affordable airplanes. Moving the max air speed up to 250 will negate the low cost of a stout enough airframe and they will certainly need the same ADS-B requirements to see and be seen pushing costs up further but necessary. Good report. I like to see a Federal Agency actually working for and with us to make this industry better. I was told by a FAA Inspector who visited our 135 Check Hauling operation out of Love Field after a short discussion about ramp checks. My concern since we were on a hot schedule similar to Fedex getting money into the Federal Reserve Banks on time, a ramp check could blow any earned revenue from a trip. He said they understood that, and wouldn't do that. Further they let us know when they planned a visit so some principals could be present if they wanted to look at manifests for example, or aircraft log books. No need to feel intimidated was the message and they displayed that attitude.

My guess is the insurance companies will have something to say about a pilot with Basic Med flying an airplane with 12,500 lbs gross weight. Generally they have begun declining to cover pilots over 70 flying multi-engine turbine aircraft single pilot.

10 days for registration? It took me over a year! And that was only because I got AOPA involved to push it along. Seems like a lot of welcome changes.

You need to make an episode about the BAD sides of the Act, such as how it will destroy the Part 91 tour industry and severely impact skydiving.

Well I know it killed the Banning CA airport allowing the city to close it to build warehouses with no consequences from the FAA. It was last min. change and it went through.

Applicants should be able to take ther flight chks with the feds; afterall we already pay them with tax dollars!.back in my day most examiners were retired high time military airmen with at least 5000 flt hrs some military check airmen! Most of my flt chks were with these guys exacting and fair; and it didnt cost me a dime!

That's on the low side. At the Redbird Migration conference in Houston, TX in March they did a hand poll to see what the highest DPE rate was for a Private Pilot Checkride. $1700 came in at the highest.

When will the new Basic med expansion come into effect?

What kills a good amount of pilot for qualifying for basic med is the having a third class or higher before a certain time. Eliminate that date. I went to sea as a career change for 15 years. I sold my plane and gave up my hanger. Now that I am retired, I would like to get a basic med. The fear of being denied a third class med because of certain but approved prescription drugs has kept me from doing so. Once denied you are screwed. Also it is hard to find a Designated 5:45 Medical Examiner. Our two is 250k plus a student population of 72k. What is up with that?

I think the initial basic med had a 10 year look back from 2016 when basic med went into effect. So, if you received a 3rd class medical after 2006, and you meet the other requirements, you qualify to fly under basic med.

@@Mistamannfour Why limit the "grandfathering" to a 10 year look back? My last medical was 2000, but I am not willing to jeopardize Sport Pilot privileges by playing FAA Medical games of "we'd like some more information." My point is once you apply for a medical, you are denied Sport Pilot privileges UNTIL you receive a passing medical or run thru all the hoops for Special Issuance. Not worth rolling the dice, as I don't need to fly at night, or carry more than one passenger.

But it F's the TOY AIRPLANE R/C Pilot not flying on a(RESERVATION) FRIIA F(AA-Recognized Identification Area) i.e.an FAA approved Radio Controle flying Site. Limmited to Model Flying of 400' AGL, even thoughFAR 91.119 Minimum safe altitudes: Clearly states in Sub Part (b) over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft. Accordiing to the Scottsdale AZ FSDO an openair assembly of persons can be 33'000 People at a conxert or 2 People on a blanket having a picnic.
