Wasn't too inexperienced, for the simple fact the hawk turned upside-down mid air in defense and catch position each time.

@@ta2020photography Indeed, I was nervous for him! Impressive presentation of talons but even so... No Peregrines to observe here in Florida, except during migration, so I have learned much through your lenses. Never again will I think of the Peregrines' stoop as "falling with style" These birds are masterpieces, designed for and dedicated to success. To see a pelican knocked onto his tail feathers by feathered missiles...wow. TY, ta

Peregrine can do 390km/hr whilst eagle 160km/hr. So you are right that would be a massive hit for both birds who'd survive?

These videos are ASTOUNDING. The motion study is fascinating. As a Physics teacher I can explain what is happening here. Motion analysis is reasonably complex. As we are seeing this motion on a flat screen it can be assessed as 2D motion.

Anyone who thinks of redtails as just simple buzzards remember this is the reason they are called “Hawks” they honestly are the only birds I’ve seen to actually attempt to and almost counter a peregrine falcon stoop every other bird usually falls prey to it the first few hits and here’s this hawk just eating a barrage of them they have amazing reaction time and agility not even the mighty eagle can handle a falcon like this true and amazing bird and one of my favorites
@one4all88523 күн бұрын
Eagles do the same when falcons attack them.
@RedHoodedTaka21 күн бұрын
@ yah true I’ve seen a couple of videos but do to the eagle size it’s turning speed just doesn’t compare to the hawks turning speed let alone the falcons which is why most videos you see eagles get knocked down by the falcons
@one4all88521 күн бұрын
@@RedHoodedTaka I still haven't seen an eagle get taken down by a falcon. Falcons are definitely the coolest and my favorite, but it's super rare that they successfully prey on eagles. Read somewhere that some have seen a golden eagle killed by a peregrine. Golden eagles are strong and can stoop at 200mph, but they don't have the agility and quickness of falcons to dive as fast when getting closer to the ground. Falcons can dive straight down and flip up in an instant. Knocking their prey out cold is so cool. The precision at that speed to have quick reflexes is amazing. I still don't know how they can hit their prey without injuring themselves or how they don't lose balance after collision. Reflexes must be top notch I guess, but how they handle the impact I still don't know.
@one4all88521 күн бұрын
@@RedHoodedTaka did a bit of reading. Eagles have 340 degrees of eyesight. That might be why they usually aren't caught off guard. Falcons are the true air warriors though.

@@bobspeltbackwards2195 I have peregrine male that has survived fighting against two buzzards (they are basically slightly smaller red tails) on the ground for ten minutes. He also attacked huge buzzard female on the ground when she tried to steal his pigeon. She was more than two times bigger than him, and they ended up in a stalemate by the time I have arrived to the scene. He was holding the big female by the the legs and tried to bit her but he couldn't reach the the neck because he was so much smaller. We also had female peregrines and hybrids that have killed and eaten buzzards on the ground, as well as goshawks. Essentially, determent and aggressive peregrine is very dangerous even on the ground against relatively larger hawks. But if the peregrine doesn't turn and fight, hawks are usually going to win on the ground. In the air, fit peregrine is in the league of his own! I hunt with peregrines, hybrids, goshawks and Harris hawks, and they simply can't match the peregrine in the air.
