Regarding the design lines around the tire bead, this is straight from the Rubitrek A/T page about those lines: TOWING SUPPORT AND STABILITY Heat diffuser technology in the lower sidewall dissipates heat to protect the internal tire components. Awesome review my friend. This is the best one to date for me. I’m stuck between the Baja Boss and the AT4W for my taco and you definitely threw some eggs in both baskets with this one video. I will attempt to settle a question you had. I believe the design around the bead is for heat dissipation. I have heard a couple of guys say that about the AT3W. Please look into that, though, I would trust that you would give me an honest answer. 😅 Again, great review.

Great review as always However I believe you talked me out of this tire I'll either strap on the MT Baja Boss AT or quickly get the atw3 before they sell out. Based on your review I can't help but think Falken messed up here. Meaning they should market the Atw4 as a completely new tire (with a different damn name) while also working to subtlety update and improve the atw3. I think this is a HUGE missed opportunity for them But what do I know

I got the AT3W's on my Jeep XJ and they been great for everything I've thrown at them. Kinda want them on my new Maverick too, especially for the (now) legendary wet traction, since in all honesty, it will spend the majority of time on roads. However, the new '4's' seams to be a worse choice for the latter... It's a pretty light truck and like said, mostly on-road, so the changes isn't looking good!

All bases covered in this review and a great balance of technical details and high level explanations. I have had Toyo RTs, ATs, Nitto Ridge Graps, BFG ATs , KO3s and these AT4W will be my first Falken tire. I'm spending more and more time in the snow and wanting the added Snow Peak rating, these seem to fit my needs without sacrificing the durability for the hard dessert offroading...and good lord 60k mile warranty!! Update, i went ahead and picked up a set of the at4 35/70/12.5 and they are on my 2017Tundra TRD Pro. I towe a 5000lb travel trailer and just did the first trip a few weeks ago. Tires are great so far, quiet and nice ride. This winter will be the true test. I will say these things look even better in person and the tread depth is massive. They eem a little bigger than the Toyo Rts they replaced because i can hear a small amount of rubbing when in reverse. Something I'll have to see about fixing soon.

You don't have a choice anymore. The AT3W is now discontinued, which sucks.... because the new model is significantly heavier. I wouldn't put the AT4W on a Tacoma unless you don't care at all about gas mileage and performance.

Thanks, Nathan. I'm sold on the Falken AT4W when its time for my next set. I replaced the original set of Dunlop Grand Trek AT on the 2009 Tacoma SR5 (DLT) with Michelin Defenders when I bought it in 2021 so the Falkens should be around in 2029. A salesman at Parker Subaru and I talked quite a bit as he was showing me the Subaru Ascent while resetting its systems as my daughter bought it last year, a 2022 model with Falken tires. He's planning on replacing the tires on his '99 Four Runner with Falkens when it's time. (DLT = Dad's Last Truck, which he spec'd out the way I would have). Thanks again from Kootenai County.

Hey I believe at 17:36 that the pattern is used to dissipate heat. Can’t remember where I read it/saw it but when you air down your sidewall/bead gets hotter and can degrade the material over time, so I believe that pattern increases surface area to dispel heat. Could be marketing BS but that’s my understanding of it

I had these installed last Friday on my '97 4Runner. I was coming from $90 Costco tires. By comparison these are like riding on a cloud and the grip in the rain is incredible. Here in California it's been flood conditions. I feel a lot safer on these vs. my old A/T car tires. The amount of power these sap from my little engine is comical. The 3rd gen was already quite slow, and now it's a challenge to accelerate onto the freeway and it doesn't like going over 70-75--too much rolling resistance. I'm glad I got them because they are awesome but it's something to think about.

I have the 3 version on my old Ford Escape 4x4. They are definitely meant for duty in the rocks, fire roads and dirt. A heavy, nasty tough tire suitable for pulling the boat and getting back in there or jacking around off road until you break something. Living in the middle Sierra Nevada mountains just outside Yosemite I also want a winter snow & rain traction tire to take me shopping down in the city. But I am not in the great North that stays frozen until summer vacation. For that purpose I found the Cooper Discoverer a better tire. Excellent traction and stability. Lighter than the Falken, a little softer rubber in the cold that is also surprisingly great on the freeways and into summer.

What they have done is go after the "hybrid" tire market but with an amazing tire that gets the snowflake rating! When I bought my wife a Defender we gave her Moab Wrangler to our daughter and I swapped the Toyo Mud Terrains we had on it for the Falken AT3s because she goes snow boarding alot. They are AMAZING and with the Snowflake rating don't require chains! I liked they so much I considered going with them on my new GMC Dually instead of the Nitto Ridge Grapplers I had on my prior truck to get the Snowflake rating, but worried about towing our toy hauler with them. Well this new AT4 is the perfect weapon to handle the weight of trailer with full load of 2 RZRs, dirtbikes and fuel without the side lug buckling on turns and look as agressive as the Ridge Grapplers, but still have a higher mileage rating and the Snowflake rating!

I got my Lt275/70r18 Toyo AT3's 4 years ago and have 50,000 miles on them. I still have 7/32nds on them and they still have the sipes. They have been great. They are starting to slip a little bit while turning on to roads from a stop in the rain. Easily manageable with a light foot. The OEM Goodyear's they replaced had half the miles and were downright dangerous in the rain. I've narrowed my next set down to these two or MT BajaBoss A/T.

I purchased stock size. 265/70/17 The wildepeaks must definitely be beefier than the ko2's. How bad is the rub? I too have an trd orp and am looking into new tires for this year. I’m in the PNW and had been considering the 3W, but my thinking is leaning towards the 4W now. Have you had a chance to put them through the paces at all? I’m not looking into full on off roading, would like to confidently hit the fire roads in the area, and still have good winter/wet performance.
@jtorralb10 ай бұрын
@@pdxwarrior the rub can be dealt with a very minor correction to the hard right steer. It just touches the lip of the panel. It only happens when backing up out of a tight spot. I suspect after some wear it won't be an issue. I may just take a dremel to it if I am not patient. And IMHO they are so much better than the ko2. Ride is superior. I live in wa state and needed better wet traction. Forgot to mention I have the king coils which make it as high as a trd pro. Nothing aggressive I think it's a 1 inch lift if that.

@17:13 Falken advertises the pattered section near the inner sidewall of the AT3/4W is “heat diffusing technology in the lower sidewall designed to dissipate heat in the internal structure when towing or hauling loads.” This is supposed to reduce the overall temps, which overall increasing wear resistance. Think of those ridges as heat syncs, and as air flows inside and around those ridges, it draws heat out of the tire near the bead. Supposedly the hottest sections on a tire are near the bead. Whether is works or not, I’m not a tire engineer.
