i was going through customs in houston after coming back from jamaica in the 90s. this beautiful german shepard came up to me, tail wagging and licking me. (no, i did not bring anything illegal back from jamaica. left it there 😉) this policeman comes up to me and asks me if i had any pets. i told him, "yes, i have cats and dogs." he said, "maybe that's it. i've never seen this dog act this way toward anybody." i hugged the dog, said bye to the officer, and that was it. he didn't even search my luggage.

Unless I am very much mistaken, most countries have very well-publicised restriction advice for travellers on what can and cannot be brought into the country. Not only that, but on every international flight I have been on, one has to fill out a form - handed out while still in flight - which states all the goods one has to declare BEFORE going through Customs. So in reality, there is really no excuse for any of these folk to sling off at the Customs Officers for doing their job. Neither ignorance nor an attempt to smuggle stuff in is going to change the end result.

I am a former assistant customs officer at Sydney International Airport, and I'm so sorry you have had to put up these types, albeit they form only a small proportion of the total arrivals. I was lucky that I experienced almost total cooperation by pax, and even when I had to do prosecutions there was no unpleasantness. Keep up the good work!

Passengers attempting a common scam, pay for your trip or profit by attempting to bring quantities of tobacco that clearly exceed the legal allowance. These huge quantities are evidence of criminal intent, seize the goods then charge them with tax evasion. Their attitude is an attempt to cause the customs officer to make a mistake which will allow them to avoid the charges If you think HM Customs are being unfair / punitive or you think the tax levied is excessive, then vote for political party that will change the situation Finally, remember, HM Customs & Revenue have more powers than the regular police BTW, I don’t work for them, I have experience in licensing gaming machines, which they also oversee

The man at 15:15 had a point. The procedure for declaring was out of the way and had small print. Every airport I can remember had two lines labeled "Nothing to declare" and "Something to declare".

Near my office was another office of accountants. The accountants' office apparently had a policy of not allowing its employees to smoke inside the building. One of those employees was an accountant who appeared to be in his 40s, and he also seemed to be outside smoking more than inside doing his work. One day, despite his youth, he had a massive, fatal heart attack. One day, he was outside smoking; the next day, he was gone. A cigarette habit can be dangerous in so many ways.

It seems to me that many of these people purposely don't read the rules/guidelines about bringing items into the country just to see if they can get away with it. . . I greatly enjoy watching them get proven wrong.

I always chuckle at these where "my uncle packed my bags" situations. If I asked my nephew to pack my bags, he'd laugh in my face and with good reason.

They talk too much. Say what you need to say, ONCE, then DO what you need to do. Stop arguing with those who break the law. It's very easy, but they want to argue. Say what you need to say, one time.

Yeah I agree, they didn't need to justify what their job was, it just allowed the fools a chance to needlessly argue. Maybe it was the camera presence that made the officers so 'nice'. Why is there no mandatory fine for trying to sneak illegal contraband through the green zone. Way too soft, it only encourages people to keep trying.
