Because you see Artersico, I can direct you to prime sources from both sides which is substantial evidence including documentary EVIDENCE which proves this. So for you to substantiate your conspiracy theory and prove that the whole thing was about oil, please can you cite documentary evidence? When I say documentary evidence; I don’t mean a link to some conspiracy website where the unsubstantiated lie is merely repeated without the tiniest shred of proof but pretending it’s the truth. I mean primary source evidence from minutes or government communiques from 1982. I doubt you will find any. So instead, I would like you to take off your tin foil hat and try using cognitive reasoning then drawing your conclusions. That means reasoning based on the evidence, instead of approaching the subject with your cynical already held suspicions and then you go looking for the flimsiest of evidence to try and somehow, substantiate this rubbish without looking at all the other evidence. It’s called the eureka syndrome. Only looking for what you want to see and finding something slightly resembling what you’re looking for, while completely ignoring the huge white elephant of proof sitting in the room which tells another story.

"The United Provinces attempted to control the islands through commerce, granting fishing and hunting rights to Jorge Pacheco in 1824. Pacheco's partner Luis Vernet established a toehold in the islands in 1826 and a fledgling colony in 1828. He also visited the British consulate in 1826, 1828 and 1829 seeking endorsement of his venture and a garrison. In 1829, he sought a naval vessel from the United Provinces to protect his colony but as none were available he was appointed Military and Civil Commander, prompting British protests.Attempts to regulate fishing and sealing led to conflict with the United States and the Lexington raid of 1831. If you get a chance, read his book 'Sea Harrier Over The Falklands' and you'll understand that Sharky is a very impressive pilot. It's a riveting read. He doesn't just come across as calm and collected, he is a true 'Top Gun'. He was the commanding officer of the first Sea Harrier squadron In ACM tests with the best the US could put together, he would beat F15, F14, F16 and F5 easily.

The U.K. could only put 6000 infantry combatants to face 11,000 garrison troops where even the potato peelers in the kitchens could pick up guns and fire back. Talking about firing back. You think the british were better equipped? Why don’t you do something for the first time before responding. RESEARCH!!!!! Google the standard issue FAL rifle and then compare it to the British SLR. The same Belgian weapon? NO!! The U.K. had the semi auto version and faced Argentinians shooting at them with the FULL AUTOMATIC version which was MUCH better in defensive warfare and can put many more rounds down towards the enemy. Don’t listen to the excuses and conspiracies. Research the excellent US manufactured night vision goggles that the Argentinian military had compared to the poor quality heavier British versions which were limited issue. Take a look at the quality of israeli cold weather parkas and compare them to the cotton smocks worn by the U.K. forces. Seriously. Compare the British DMS boot with the United States manufactured fully waterproof high legs that every Argentinian soldier possessed. In fact, after goose green, some paratroopers were replacing their own boots with the ones taken from dead Argentinians and that’s a fact. Have you compared the few aircraft that the British were able to put into that theatre then look at the numbers and quality that the Argentinian airforce possessed? The British could only sustain a small number of multi role Harriers that were only just supersonic. Against a large fleet of hundreds of strike aircraft, many that were in the arsenals of France, the USA and Israel. The attrition alone could have destroyed British chances. When an Argentinian pilot would need only do one sortie and “tag team” to his comrades to keep oncoming one after the other, the 42 British pilots would have to do fifty sorties each to keep up air cover. They were exhausted. If half the aircraft from the carriers are shot down, the British couldn’t replace them and were left to fight with 20 against an airforce that still had hundreds of fighters and pilots only a few hundred miles away. Have you ever read “No Picnic”? I mean the book, not the twisted lying Viveza Criolla Argentinian rebranding of the meaning. The book highlights these disadvantages. Julian Thompson told his commanders BEFORE THEY DISEMBARKED, that it wasn’t going to be a picnic. It has NOTHING to do with so called “Argentinian surprises”. The British expected to lose more. Much more. But the differences in military philosophy can be surmised by this. The U.K. infantry had to “yomp”’as the marines call it, 90 kilometres carrying 40 kilos on their backs over mountains and bogs, sleeping forms few hours in hastily dug fox holes in soaking cold water that froze to their bodies and feet in conditions that drove Argentinian special forces to take shelter in a house (Top Malo) in the middle of a combat zone, without posting a guard, because it was “too cold”. When menedez realised that the “real landings” weren’t going to happen near Stanley and that the British land forces that disembarked in San Carlos was NOT a feint and the main assault had marched those distances over what the Argentinian strategic planners had calculated was impossible ground to move vast numbers of troops on foot, and he relied on the calibre of his men and the formidability of their defences in the mountains, then was shocked to find that they were being taken after only a few hours of combat. When you look at the picture of Moore and Menedez, meeting during the surrender and you compare one dirty,’unshaven disheveled tired general who shared the same rations, deprivations and dangers with his men against a clean, close shaven oiled haired immaculately dressed well rested amateur who slept in a bed in a heated house and hadn’t even visited his forwards positions once to speak with his troops, inspect his defences and encourage his officers. One staff officer witnessed the last conversation Mendez had with galtierri when the dictator was shouting and calling him and his men cowards telling Mendez to leave his positions and fight. Mendez’s reply was “But Snr Presdente, you don’t realise WHAT we’re fighting against here”. That’s when you realises why argentina lost. I joined the Royal Navy two years after this. The poor sailors in this war were wearing non fire retardant number 8 clothing, in addition swimming was not a mandatory skill. The clothes melted to their skin during the fire and heat. Many drowned due no swimming training. R.I.P to all who died.

The training: 4 lengths of a swimming pool wearing overalls end to end. No stopping. No gripping. Tread water for four minutes in overalls. Then convert overalls into floations. Fill with air and continue floatation for four more minutes. All timed. Touch, don't complete in time, or give up, you failed the course. HMS Ralleigh. 6 Week training course, basic, 1980. Which navy were you in? Not what I remember.

I was 7 when this all went off and my dad was RN Commando squadron AEM on the Sea King. I will never forget the 21st of July when Hermes came into Portsmouth with my old man wearing a Navy Beret and Marine fatigues. An emotional day. My dad brought some good loot back - Argie US issued Infra Green goggles, bayonets, compasses. Argie clothes. My brothers and I used to play murder in the dark with the goggles, they weighed a ton lol

Being realistic, they have been defeated in war and the nations they held were far less powerful or not nations at all. Hell, USA didn't exist under Britain. Britain is one of the main colonizers of North America. As soon as any nation began growing more powerful, Britain basically lost control or began allowing more autonomy to maintain control in writing but not in reality. As for other nations of approximate size to the U.K. with large empires, the French had large scale colonization efforts, but to a lesser scale as the French did not focus as much on Navy. Germany took most of Europe, though held it for far less time.

I am an American, and I love and the UK as much as my own country. With that said, I must respectfully disagree. I don't if we knew beforehand of the invasion, but we did supply Britain with weapons. If we did know the Argentinian invasion plans, you're right- we should have informed our friends. But never forget we did help you during the conflict. They were brilliant, and were defnitely a key part of helping us win the Falklands War.... But Breaking News, its not 1982 anymore, and we can't keep the same planes running for that long in such a changing technological world.The Spitfire was not much older in 1982 as the Harriers are today, and I can guarantee you that if we had tried to fight the argies with them, we would've lost, no matter the experience of our pilots.

I was in Europe when this happened. Everytime we saw a British soldier they would buy us a beer, and ask if we thought the US was going to help them fight Argentina. We'd ask them why they needed help, and of course tell them we hadn't heard of any plans for the US to help them. Stationed in W Germany, if the US did help it wouldnt be us. We had our mission no matter what happened anywhere else. It just stuck out in my mind, because usually stand offish they were suddenly very friendly and talkative. When the fighting did start we were surprised to hear they were having a hard time. Especially the Royal Navy. The French Exocet missile was very effective against their ships.

Yeah US provided UK with a few Stinger missiles, the Sidewinder (this was the killer weapon in the air along with the Harrier system), aviation fuel and even offered us a carrier but keep in mind that not a single Argentine weapon was Argentinian my friend :) In fact, allot of their kit such as the bombs and destroyers were British with their jets all being American/French. @Arminevh They HOPED to lose a few ships but no military Operational plan survives contact with the enermy.When they desided to make landfall in San Carlos they knew they would lose ships. Your missiles can't work as well as you can out at sea. They had to postion warships so the would be the first ship attacked & sunk.Not the landing ships or Troop carriers.So they changed tactics as and when nessary included lose's to complete their mission.
