Hello Mark I had actually seen this on KZbin. I wasn't quite sure it would work because I heard positive and negative things about it but mostly due to the parts of the country that they lived in. I actually took one bale of straw, one large bag of a name brand potting mix, and a large bag of composted rabbit manure I form them all into above ground beds the same height as the bell so it actually took a little more on the ones with the good potting soil and the composted manure I wasn't quite sure what my landlord would think. But I covered to talk with pansies and the sides with smaller flower bulbs. As well as planting impatience on one of the long sides of the Bale. It was absolutely gorgeous. And until all the flowers died back and the plants died back was when you could tell that it was a bale of straw. So I broke it down and and place all of it over my vegetable for next year. Have a great day take care and God bless Deb

You can get these wooden or solid plastic dummy eggs for your pigeons. It not only helps control your numbers, but they will sit on these for at least an extra week. It also help prevent the females from getting calcium depletion for laying too many eggs. Pigeons, like many other birds, will lay another set of eggs after loosing a clutch. You can get these online through pigeon supply stores such as Siegel Pigeon or Foy's. Amazon also has them.

Hello there, I was wondering if you could answer a baby goat question. A lady in my neighborhood has 5 adult goats that obviously can withstand Utah winters. She has a 3 sided shelter for them with the eastern side totally open. They are sheltered from wind and snow but not from temperature. Now she has had two baby goats given to her by people who couldn't care for them. They're no more than 2 or 3 months old I believe. I am concerned they won't be able to withstand the cold temperatures without a proper barn to live in. Do you have an opinion on this? I hope I'm overreacting! Thank you so much for your expertise.
@The10AcreWoods6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, I was checking historical temperatures in Utah and found that the lowest temperature for January appears to be about 0 degrees F or -17 degrees C for the month of January, not quite as cold as it can be here. The little ones should be fine as long as they are in a shelter that has lots of straw bedding. Goats will develop a winter coat if they remain outside. They should definitely be monitored daily and if they appear to be shaking then they will need to be taken in. If possible, I would recommend that they be in a warmer area to eliminate any concerns. Always better to be safe! Our first kid goat born here was one born in January (I think it was 2003), her mother "December" was also born in winter and decided to name the little one "Snowy". Little Snowy spent the winter inside the house with our dog and they had made a great bond. FYI, our winters can get down to below -40 degrees. Hope that helps, thanks for your comment!

Hello Mark, what an amazing video. I love the new Drone footage it clearly shows a picture of where you started and where you've gone with this project. how amazing to take a project and turn it into something as wonderful as what you have done. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much of the supplies for your Barnes and fences, not including the pond has been reclaimed materials? That is the direction that I personally would like to go, is using reclaimed materials. I love going to the dump and finding things that I can combine with other things to make something beautiful I'm hoping to get a pipe bender soon, maybe for my birthday hint hint to my children LOL. Because believe me next fall my Greenhouse goes in with the winter being for the chickens building up the mulch from the hay and the straw and the manure over the winter time also keeps the chickens warm. Sheep of course have their long curly locks or their straight hair. Rabbits put on extra hair your chinchillas put on extra hair comma as well as your two legged animals to keep their own Bodies Warm but those close to them. I remember as a kid watching the steam clouds like a thick fog coming up from the edge of the fields where we ran our chickens I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have even though it seems like it's not that useful right now my mind is buzzing constantly with all of the things that I've learned not just by being told but actually the Hands-On process getting up early milking the cows feeding the chickens . well you feed the chickens first actually LOL. by the time you get to milking the goats your back is so worn out but yet you have so much more to do. I'm not quite sure of what else you guys do other than your absolutely wonderful farm do you do any gardening? Maybe for yourself or your animals? I know I want to prepare as much or more Garden area that will feed a lot of my animals. I hope to have about 30 animals to start with chickens, goose, a male and a female rabbit, 2 small boats, a small milking cow who's already bread. of course I have to have a huge turkey like your lovely photo bomber, LOL. if I remember right you said it's taking you about 23 years to get there. what I would like to do is like you do on some of your videos where you put it in fast motion then maybe I could get it done sooner LOL I'm 53 right now and I can't imagine just getting there at the age of 73 doing all of the things that I love to do. I've just about got my daughter convinced to start a mini Farm. With all smaller animals as in a petting zoo. That way my grandkids and any school kids for field trips or families coming out for the day on the farm. I love to teach and share back the knowledge that has been entrusted to me do my grandmother. I can't wait I want to Trinkle my nose and cross my fingers and pray as loud as I want to just to make it happen sooner. LOL well I'm going to let you go take care and God bless. Eldon's # Eldon's number one Farm fan Farm . I don't know if you have shirts tank tops or anything like that that you sell as merchandise for your Channel. if you don't I would love to check on a screen printer, I have done business with in the past. You definitely need a t-shirt with. I have a question for you would you mind if I copied off a few pictures off your Facebook of Sheldon the turkey and a couple other animals? I would love to fiddle around with the picture on one of my photography programs. is there any way you might be willing to allow me to do this and I will allow you to choose the photo or photos depending on how many shirts you would like to try out. just let me know take care and God bless. Deb

This is almost hilarious. Hello Mark. I was just watching a video just prior to this one as they are in order. I left a comment that was quite lengthy. One of the questions that I asked you was is how much of the materials you use are reclaimed materials . I had asked it on a scale of 1 to 10 how much was reclaimed materials and the very next video is exactly the same video about the question that I had just asked you. I guess it's meant to be LOL I'm supposed to have my little farm. Keep me in your prayers that God would provide. I'm not looking to get rich because Rich isn't about money it's about your morals and your principles. Morals and principles money can't buy you anything that can return affection, loyalty, or teach you, or to balance out your life with your. some type of captivating loyalty, payoff, companion at times, returns Your Enthusiasm that God entrusted them to you. Everything works out for a reason. I am very grateful that people like you and your family, as well as myself actually exist anymore. There should be way way way more than just us wanting to change the world. I think it's becoming more popular as far as Homestead a going back to farming going back to raising your animals. You don't seem to be a type of form that since your animals after freezer camp once they reach a certain age. They get to live their life out happily with you or get adopted and have a forever home is my hope. Thank you again take care and God bless Deb

No but from time to time we have seen them on some of the animals. At that point we pull out the fireplace Ash and or diatomaceous earth (DE) and treat all of the animals. If you have chickens, check their body under the wing and for goats, around the ears and face.

Sheldon is showing signs of polio a goat disease just needs vitamins and Selinium maybe something else. Please check it out he will slowing get where he won't standup and his he back. Watch Dr Pol on TV it's a country vet show and I have seen this on there. Sheldon is needing a treatment and then he will be just like the other goats. Maybe it's something else than Selinium, please read up on it and the TV series. Hopefully Robin🙂
@The10AcreWoods6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robin, Sheldon was given a zero percent chance of survival as he could not stand at all for the first month of his life and has done amazing. What you are describing sounds like White Muscle Disease that slowly shuts down the muscles due to a Selenium deficiency. This is what Lucy suffered from four years ago when she was born but after Selenium / Vitamin E injections she had made a full recovery. Sheldon likely suffers from Autism that we don't see much of in goats as they are normally left to die or they are euthanized as recommended by vets. Thanks for your comment, we watch Dr. Pol when we can and play a game to see who can make the proper diagnosis before the doc. 😁

The 10 Acre Woods 😂 do you have any tips on taming a goat? He has never been socialized ever since he was born and he’s almost a year now and he will come up and sniff my hand but once I move he freaks out. Also do you have any tips on how to stop my goat from head butting humans?
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
@@mariagolke3678 Tara here - Time and trust, goats like many others learn in utero so if the parents were nervous, anxious and unhandled it will take time. Keep moving, put up flags, things that move For socializing just be you. Music, talking, and conditioning takes time. Treats lots of healthy treats we use snap peas, apples pieces, once a day sit down and let come to you for it, even if have to start by putting it at your feet, but stand your ground. If head butting if strong enough take by the horns pin them to the ground untill they give up. If not strong enough water spray bottle to the face, with firm NO, after a bit they will learn the NO. keep me posted if that does not work, but time and sit with them. read book with them, that is how we tame a pony years ago, ignoring him and reading to him.
@mariagolke36785 жыл бұрын
The 10 Acre Woods thank you for all the suggestions, now that’s it starting to warm up and the snow is melting I will be able to actually sit outside with him. And we have tried a water bottle but then she only doesn’t headbutt people if they’re holding it but we have a ice and bait shop and so we have a lot of customers over and so we kinda can’t make them hold a bottle when they are here and she doesn’t have horns but we have actually started pinning her to the ground until she gave up but it was hard to be consistent since obviously when we’re not home and visitors come over they don’t know how to do it and so it’s hard to be consistent but we will definitely try as best as we can to be consistent this summer (she also goes in heat like crazy which then she is ever worse and tries to mate with us)
@The10AcreWoods5 жыл бұрын
@@mariagolke3678 I am a firm believer in they know what they want, if you know of someone with a stud(we have two) then perhaps that will tame her.
