Fall Foliage Hike Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area

Three Rivers contains large parcels of NY State land. Part of the preserve is on an old WW2 Munitions factory site. We like to hike what we call the pine forest. The trees were planted there many years ago and in the last decades many were taken down to air out the forest they created. What has naturally replaced them have been a variety of deciduous trees and shrubs bringing a diversity of color and habitat to the area. NYState land is usually left natural and if you find a trail they are not always marked well, however someone seems to have marked their own trail here possibly bikers. So here you can virtually join us through the deciduous forest, where we suddenly lose the trail. Then find it again leading to a very colorful section of shrubs, birch, and pine seedlings. on a soft moss floor. Proceeding to the enormous pine trees, and eventually back to our cars. Enjoy.
