In the Pacific Northwest for fall renovation, I just started with dethatch and leveling and just laid down a mix of 1/3- 1/2 bag Milorganite, 3 cups epsom salt, and 1/4 bag of 26-0-12 winterizer. This ratio worked well for my cool season grass all fall and winter long because they all are slow release. Now I plan to lay down some non coated rye grass blend as well as non coated Kentucky blue grass blend in a couple days. At that time I’ll go ahead and mix 1/4 bag of Milorganite again with 1/4 bag of starter fertilizer. This is just to give the new seed a little boost from the fast acting starter fertilizer and mixing in the 1/4 bag of Milorganite helps increase volume so I can spread a thin amount of the fast acting stuff. I did this last fall with great results, in fact my grass stayed dark green all winter long and my neighbors were asking what’s my secret? Lol, I just tell them I use a mix of natural and winter fertilizer and some epsom salt. I also apply disease/fungus control twice a year usually spring and fall. As far as insect control. That’s not a big issue in my area and usually once a year late spring does the trick. I do plan to use the rest of the winterizer fertilizer (stagreen from Lowe’s due to the higher Potassium value) and 2 cups of epsom salt around October.

Please do NOT feed your Bermuda after the last week of September...pushing it when the temps start to drop will hurt your lawn. When it wants to go dormant, let it go dormant. I learned the hard way. Everything looked great over the Winter, and when the green up started in the Spring, I was scratching my head wondering why I had large dead areas. It was because I pushed it too long. Luckily it eventually filled in, but oh what a headache. This was a few years ago...lesson learned. Had cool season grass when I lived up North, and you can give it it's last feeding around Thanksgiving...NOT with Bermuda. A whole different animal.
