Thanks for covering my game! Regarding the battles, if the game is a success and I make Fall of an Empire 2, the first thing on the list would be Total War style battles but the game itself is currently on a budget of whatever money I have left over after paying my bills and I'd probably need like 3 or 4 more people on the team full time to implement them.

Atilla Total War was the peak imo. Being able to manually fight battles is a huge component of these types of games. It's why I still play MTW2, RTW2, and Atilla.

I feel like it cannot compete with Total War if there isn’t tactical on ground battles. Looks like a watered down CK2/3.

Excited to see somebody get into CA's arena and do things differently. More like this would be cool to see from developers. For me personally i'd love to see someone make a game focused on the military structure and campaigns of Rome. Perhaps focusing on a single legion or a single cohort making its way through a larger system and campaign in one of the many wars Rome fought.

I would really love a battle phase screen. It could be very simple and turn based. But fans of ancient warfare get a hard turn on when they see formations squaring off against each other. Then it gets better when you add in simple battle mechanisms like flanking, morale, cohesion, etc. If it looks like a chess game to the computer, then the AI can be very competitive too.

From the trailer it's more like CK2 OR EU4 on diet, but having specific settings might be a plus since that way it can focused on that period.

I do! The campaign side on the Records mode is very fun and quite challenging. I’m not as big a fan of the battles but there are mods that spice that up as well. I may make a video on it :)

2:44 Total War got rid of population system / recruitment pool to dumb down the game, maybe to draw a more casual crowd?.... Only way to find out if the move worked, is to have a competitor game with population / recruitment pool implemented.

Without the battle aspect it feels like they're competing more with Paradox. And in that case the question becomes whether it's worth playing over Imperator or CK3 with the Fallen Eagle mod, which I'm not sure based on what we've seen, but I'm willing to look into what the finished game looks like.

am the only one bothered by the fact thats suppossed to be a fall of rome type of years and the pikemen look like 15th century pikemen and the swordsman armor look weird too, like it doesnt feel ancient/roman at all and they dont fit the timeline/story in terms of looks

No, they are not. Although I know that Npiel does not claim to be historical. I'm somehow bothered by the fact that it claims to be set in an equivalent of antiquity. But then the shields of the Herculani Seniores, the nasal helmets from the High Middle Ages and some fantasy plate armor are mixed together. Although it's strange because the game is like I already mentioned. Taking place in a fantasy universe, my inner Monk thinks about it.
