The U.S. left behind a lot of military equipment that was really useful to the NVA after we left. They had tons and tons of weapons and ammo, planes ( with trained ARVN pilots ), armor and all sorts of materials. In fact they were able to put down the Cambodian slaughter in a matter of days but way to late to have saved many. Then as the equipment began to fail years later, they amassed a lot of scrap metal that was sold to Japan. Some of which went into cars exported to the U.S.

During the Iran Iraq war, the Iranians mostly had American equipment which had been bought during the time of the Shah. But the US didn’t like the Khomeini regime so the Iranians couldn’t get spare parts and upgrades from the US. But instead they were able to buy from Vietnam which had all the leftover stuff. So Vietnam made money from this stuff.

There is a book written in 1955 by the English writer Graham Greene titled The Quiet American about the relationship between a young Vietnamese girl, an old British journalist and a young American spy diplomat. Well, Vietnamese, or North Vietnamese at that time was so close to winning that destruction become futile. Why don't reserve Saigon as it is right now so that after we liberate the South those infrastructure would be ultilized right away? Vietnam didn't go so well right after the war, in 1980s there was even a crisis but they fixed it soon enough and now here we are, the thriving and right on track Vietnam.

Well those chicks at 19:15 got it wrong. I was there in '92 on the first flight from KL to Hanoi with Malaysian Airlines. It was like going back in time to the 1940s or beyond. Factories, facilities, roads, etc built by the French rusted and unusable. I consider it was a privilege because the yanks still had an embargo, so there weren't too many there. It was really untouched from tourism in those days, but the poverty was terrible

Dặm Trường Của Nam Introductions. {The Long Paths of Nam} is a story of three farm boys Names, Nam, Dung, Hiền growing up in the village called Làng-Văn, in the Northern part of Vietnam near Hanoi. Through their childhood and life while attending the village school just before World War II. In May 1944 Dung left the village to the resistance group called: {Việt Nam Độc Lập Đồng Minh Hội} [League for the Independence of Vietnam] at which Ho-Chi-Minh was the leader. Later Dung became a member of the Communist party, in which he went to the Hue City in Central Vietnam and became chief of Intelligence agents, and operator of the network as a spy in order to uprise against the South Vietnam Government. Later in 1968, he moved to Saigon, to become a business man, which was a cover for his network organization for money laundering to support the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese Army... For until the end of the War in April 1975. During World War II Japan occupied South East Asian, as the French Empire in Indochina surrendered and the Japanese occupation of Vietnam started. This caused the death of millions of the people by starvation in the North, especially in Lang-Van, which was ravaged by the Army of Japan. Nam's father and mother were killed and his girlfriend that he just newly engaged was raped and murdered by the Japanese Army. Their village and country were torn apart. Nam soon volunteered for the resistance group, called Nationalist, to fight against the Japanese Army as well as the French Colonialist. Then Vietnamese Nationalist united with Viet-Minh and Nam became Liaison agent for Viet-Minh, which was located in a cave Pac-Bo, the headquarters of Ho-Chi-Minh and General Giap. Hien went to Hanoi and studied at a School called Truờng Buởi. Hien hopes to become a teacher, during that time Hien worked as a waiter in the local restaurant. He is also running an underground network of Student Patriotism in connection with the Allies. During that time Vietnamese Nationalist, Viet Minh, and Allies combined efforts to fight against the Japanese Army. After the end of World War II, Viet Minh and Nationalist marched into Hanoi. Then Ho-Chi-Minh and communist party began to destroy the Vietnamese Nationalist who helped him gain power. In August 1945, Nam, Hien, and Dung met together for the last time in Hanoi, the same day of the last Nguyen Emperors handing over his Imperial seal to Ho-Chi-Minh. After the short time meeting in Hoàn-Kiếm Lake, three of them said good-bye. Dung went to the South, Nam to Cao Bang and Hien stayed in Hanoi. War started over again between Viet Minh and French Army in 12-1946. Later Hien became a young liaison agent to transfer mail, secrets for Viet Minh and Nationalist groups. During one time doing his duties, he was caught by the French Intelligence Army, and interrogated in Hỏa-Lò Hanoi. Later he was transferred to Con-Son Island in South Vietnam as a prisoner. After Viet Minh defeated the French at Điện-Biên-Phủ in May 1954. Hien was then released from prison and returned to Lang-Van. In 1970 Hien joined the North Vietnamese Army then went to the South Vietnam. Later 1974 Hien defection to the Saigon Government... Nam retired from resistance Viet Minh in fall 1955 and ran to the South to become a refugee and start a new life there. He met Lien 1966 and married her in Saigon. Last day fall of Saigon on April 30-1975. Nam fled Vietnam to the United States. Were later he was united with his children... Dam Truong Cua Nam {The Long Paths Of Nam} is a long saga done in poetic form (Luc-Bat; six-eight) that was developed long ago in the spring of 1982. In the Galang Island refugee camp in Indonesia, just a few weeks before I came to the United-States. Of course at that time I only formed four lines of a poem in my mind. After I came to United-States I plan to write "Dặm Trường Của Nam" in next fifteenth years to finish. But unfortunately is not. "Dặm Trường Của Nam" had sixth chapters. In the development of writing of this poetry. I have researched the history of the Vietnam War as well as my own life's experience to create the characters in this poetry {The Tale Of Kiều} has inspired my young life as well as my day to day life. This poem, in which I have written in the Vietnamese language, is only part one an unfinished manuscript in which I hope to proceed throughout my life.
