I really didn't like Young and Menace, but Fall Out Boy is still a good band for me. They will always have songs that I don't like, but they will also have songs that I will really love, and those outweigh those I don't like. And I suppose that's what matters.

Its just thrown in likea pile of... garbage, too much of what no one expects when they first listen to it. Also the reggae artist is just god awfull, it would have been better to throw in a reggae style guitar solo from Joe instead of Burna boy mumbling on the track. I still appreciate them makeing any music at all than none, and ive been a huge fan of them and think Folie a duex is their best work by far, but this... in comparison to any other album is just not good.

i haven’t watched the video yet, i’m a hardcore fob fan. i genuinely enjoy mania tbh, and i know they’re trying to branch out to different styles, but this just isn’t the one for them, yknow? young and menace was a mess, but it was saved by the piano version. compared to their other albums, mania was a “meh” kind. i suggest they leave the mania style behind, again, they’re bored of their old sound, and they’re trying to branch out, i understand that. but this isn’t the style for them. mania: 7/10 *EDIT:* i finished the video. i agree with this guy, i truly believe they need a break and come back fresh.

I would definitely like them to take a break after this for a few years and...mature a little? I mean they are getting up there in age. I know they can do something with much more quality than this, because I've seen it. No it doesn't have to be punk rock again, but at least something that is more dynamic and interesting, shows their talents (that they DO have plenty of) and has some actual rich lyrical content. I, like you said, feel like this album was very bare-boned. I enjoyed it fine enough and thought the hooks were just as catchy as ever, but the lyrics just feel....empty.

This album was overall pretty "meh" to me. There were a few songs I HATED (Young and Menace) but 90% of the songs I was ambivalent towards. The only song that I thought rivaled the qualities of past albums was "Last of the Real Ones" and, being as the song was out as a single before the album was released (along with half the fucking CD) I'm not sure this was worth the money I spent on it for any other reason than the need to complete my Fall Out Boy collection.
@secondavenger97756 жыл бұрын

Second Avenger glad they aren't emo anymore lol. Their new stuff is way better
@secondavenger97756 жыл бұрын
Maariya NR selling out is when you sacrifice artistic integrity for commercial success and change your music to conform to what's popular. I really love Save Rock and Roll and most of AB/AP, but they did sell out. It's not just that they changed their sound, it's that they decided to chase popular trends, not even popular trends in Rock, popular trends in POP. If say they made a Nu Metal album and it was absolutely horrible, I would call that artistic growth. Every album post-hiatus has been less and less Rock catered and more and more mainstream pop catered, and on top of that their writing has been dumbed down a lot too. Again, I still love FOB, but they did sell out.
@secondavenger97756 жыл бұрын
KrampusPlague So You've never actually heard any of their first 4 albums and judged them purley off of what other people said about them? Okay.
@secondavenger97756 жыл бұрын
Maariya Nr That's one great thing about Fall Out Boy, their original 4 album run was so strong and earned them such a loyal fanbase that they could still go back to their old sound and the fans would treat it like the old FOB never left. Maroon 5 could never go back to their old sound, their old fans would never take them back after how much they changed. I hope FOB does what Linkin Park did with The Hunting Party and make an album that's for the fans rather than the radio, but I don't think Pete Wentz would do that since he seems like a businessman first and an artist second these days.
@thema19986 жыл бұрын

Great review. Props for taking the time to do this and waiting til it officially came out. And finding some good in the bad, but not sugar coating it either. I think I only like half the songs. I was expecting it to be worse after Young and Menace, so my expectations was low. Maybe that's why this album is just okay to me. Not as bad as people are making it out to be but not that good either. I like the milk tea one, Hold Me Tight Or Don't, The Last Of The Real Ones, Wilson, and Church. I think that's like half of the songs, so I'll give it a 5/10

When you mentioned that this album had space symbolism, my thoughts went that this album is them reaching space, but running out of fuel and burning up in re-entry.
@merchantmahogany2 жыл бұрын
perfect metaphor for their post-hiatus career as a whole tbh. with save rock and roll, they launched into space, american beauty/american psycho was a comfortable orbit, they ran out of fuel with the release of young and menace and despite every emergency mechanism the metaphorical satellite had, it's just burning rubble on the ground.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one to notice how bitter the tones of some of these songs are. As a longtime fan, I’m conflicted. I’m glad they’re back and have been for a while now. I saw them live with my roommate a few months back, and Pete told the crowd that Fall Out Boy was going to be with us, and I quote, “to the fucking end.” They, as a band, would be there for us until everything went up and smoke...but I don’t want that if they don’t want it. Nonetheless, I’ll admit that I fucking love this record. I just hope you’re wrong and they aren’t as burned out as they sound on some of these songs.
@merchantmahogany2 жыл бұрын
four years later and it's becoming abundantly clear fall out boy is in fact burnt out. what little they've released since also suggests they're struggling to find a musical identity. mostly agree with the review, but i prefer heaven's gate to church. i know they can make great music, hell soul punk showed that patrick knows how to make great pop, so i'm with you in hoping they get that spark back.

I was disappointed by pretty much every element of the album because it all felt so rushed and uninspired, but the lyrics had to be the most disappointing aspect for me and at times it actually pissed me off a bit. The album is titled MANIA which implies that the theme would be around Pete’s struggle with bipolar disorder, something that’s been extremely prevalent and powerfully expressed in his lyrics throughout previous records (particularly in Folie A Deux), but what we got instead sounds phoned in and forced with no substance. It’s a huge let down to me because I have struggled with bipolar disorder myself, and Pete’s lyrics had a huge impact on me prior to SR&R. I don’t know I’ve kinda given up on this band.

Ok I’m fine with people disliking Mania, like people have different tastes in music and shit, but it does irritate me when people start bringing out sell out into the picture, if you understood what the hell this band was about you would know they aren’t about selling out. My friend and I have also had a great time deconstructing different lyrics from nearly all of the songs but hey, we clearly disagree on how good this album is, which doesn’t surprise me, many people disliked this album.

I feel like they need a new producer. Badly. I'm still really annoyed that they're autotuning and filtering Patrick's voice on almost every song. It was my biggest gripe with AB/AP, and it's one of my biggest gripes now. I actually love Heaven's Gate. Imo Wilson and Champion are the worst songs. WHERE IS JOE? I CANT HEAR HIM! I think the most awful thing about Young and Menace is the lost potential. The verses are great and I love the bridge, but the chorus is a clusterfuck. Still I'll rate this a 6/10. There are some catchy songs and good writing is abound in their non-singles.
