FALL RAINBOW TROUT & BROOK TROUT - Fly Fishing in Kamloops | Fishing with Rod

In this episode, we visit Kamloops BC for its fall trout fishing. The fish are bulking up before the winter, feeding aggressively in the shallows. I join Jordan at Interior Fly Fishing Co. for a day at the lake, catching brook trout and rainbow trout!

I tried to visit Kamloops during summer but I ran out of time on my trip driving from California with a motorhome. Fall looks like a beautiful time to visit Kamloops. Down in the Sierra Nevada mountains at Lake Crowley when faced with fish keying in on daphnia we use a fly called agent orange. Great video Rod! Super cool drone shots that you synced with audio from the boat👍

Hey rod. I tried to fish a spoon for trout in a pretty big lake but no luck. I saw a school of trout and casted at them, none them bit my lure. Is it because they could see me?

When you have to start breaking ice with your boat. ;) This fishery is basically good until ice on.

Hi Rod I noticed that you mentioned you were “marking” fish on the sounder. Were you marking them vertically or sideways? I noticed you were using a fishin’ buddy. Thanks!

Marking them vertically. That sounder is Jordan's. I use a Helix 5 which is amazing... Knowing the lake depth and how far off the bottom these fish are feeding at is really important.

Fishing with Rod thanks for that clarification. When I see people looking for fish vertically using fish finders then casting floating flys (which I know you were not) it always left me scratching my head.

It just snowed here in Alberta : ( I'm thinking about switching to a bait caster over a fly rod now because getting 4 degree water on your hand in minus 10 weather is not fun. I guess I can throw some weight on the line and still cast streamers.

What is the name of the lk ? Is it privately owned ?

This is a public lake. Just about all lake fisheries in BC with a few exceptions are available for the public. For lakes like this, the best way to find them is to go to www.gofishbc.com and do a search on stocking records. For this one, it's pretty easy to narrow it down by selecting "Region 3", look for lakes that are stocked with both rainbow and brook trout. :)
