Thanks Tammy! Not weird at all! I think more people, especially more female anglers, should enjoy this and show that they are enjoying this. 🙂 Our goal is to get more people to fish like yourself and Kitty, so we can create more stewards of the resources. If people use it, they’ll care about it. 😊

I love the entertainment and educational aspects that you and Kitty bring to your channels. Thank you! I would have never imagined that trout could be such gluttons for chironomids. Coming up from the Seattle area back in the 80’s on a road trip, I drove up the Coquihalla Highway and remember camping on and fishing this lake but can’t remember the name of it. I caught and released a five pound Rainbow and remember an old timer saying how impressed he was. He had never seen an American release a large trout before. Lol!!! Keep the lines tight, Rod.

Is that a public or private lake? Can you use the trolling motor for trolling or it is illegal? I am asking because I try to understand BC fishing rules. Tight lines.
@FishingwithRod3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, lakes stocked by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC are all public, there are very few private/pay-to-fish lakes in this province. All you need to have is a valid freshwater fishing licence to enjoy these fisheries. Motor restrictions vary from lake to lake. Some lakes have no restrictions on motor size, others may have a speed restriction, or electric motor only, while some small lakes do not allow motors at all. If there are restrictions, they can be found under each lake in the freshwater fishing regulations.
@daveporter46673 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithRod Thank you for previous answer. To fish mackerel with a rod in Vancouver docks, do I need a fishing license?
@FishingwithRod3 жыл бұрын
You need a fishing licence to fish anywhere (with the exceptions of private lakes). You will not catch mackerel in Vancouver, or anywhere in BC actually. They are only found on the West Coast of Vancouver Island occasionally during years when warmer ocean current brings them to inshore waters.

@Desaulniersjoel4 жыл бұрын
Another great video guys. Question for you from an interior fisherman- how did you find the trout in regards to any “muddy” taste? That is one deterrent for me from keeping at a number of our smaller land locked lakes around Kamloops. I often used a dry brine and smoke my trout (fillets) with great results.
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Most of the rainbow trout I've tried have been very good with very little "muddy" taste to them. I had a terrible batch of brookies about 15 years ago at one lake for some reason. I was so excited to eat them but as soon as I took a bite, it tasted like I had stuck my tongue into a bowl of mud... It's very seasonal and regional too for sure. I like to only keep fish from lakes with relatively clear water and early in the season. What I do find have consistently to have a fairly strong "lake" taste is kokanee... I pretty much stop targeting and retaining them in the lakes I have fished, especially that I am lucky enough to have good access to salmon down here.

@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Cecee! 😄 We sometimes release the fish because there is a limit on how many fish you can keep (and sometimes how big the fish have to be), so those are called mandatary releases. Sometimes, we also just release the fish because we don't really want to keep more even though we are allowed to. At this particular lake, you can keep up to five trout per day per person which is a generous limit, so we usually just keep a couple of fish for ourselves.

If I did the same thing on Courtney lake Or a lake near there but just dropped a small worm off the side of the boat to the right depth would I catch some?
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
Bait would certainly work if it is allowed. At lakes like Courtney, there is a bait ban so you'd need to check the regulations before deciding to use worm. With that said, using flies to imitate what these fish are feeding on works way more effectively than using bait in the spring months.

I've been to this lake in the summer, there are big trout in it, though they were not biting
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
Spring and fall are best. Once water temperature rises in the summer, fish tend to move further into the deep. 🙂

It's pretty good... I haven't had a chance to try it with some of the cold drinks she keeps talking about.

Came over just to give you the like for your Collab Video with Pailin. When I eventually visit BC I'm definitely going to make a point of fishing and cooking something tasty ^__^

Large rainbows, kitty is catching more than you rod. Wow, lots of insects that were in the rainbow trout.

Doesn't matter who catches them, as long they get in my boat everybody is happy. 🙂

My father used to take me there as a kid. Dont think we ever caught anything. If they let me out of the lower mainland this year maybe I'll take my son and see if we make a better tandem lol

If you have any questions on what to use etc before going, feel free to ask. There is another video of me fishing with my son at this same lake, I think it’s linked at the end of this video so you may want to check that out. Thanks for watching Jeff!

Kitty, next time you get the bone stuck, get a small piece of banana and shallow it. As a kid, we ate a lot of milkfish and they have millions of them and my dad would prepare banana on the side when it happens. haha

When we were little, we used to swallow rice to get rid of the stuck bones. 😊
