I use the gibbs croc spoons aswell however i am not sure if i should tie a leader to my main line with a swivel and then put the spoon on, or do i just attach the spoon onto my main line directly?
@FishingwithRod4 жыл бұрын
It depends on what kind of line you are using. If you are using monofilament as your main line, I'd just tie the Croc spoon directly to the line. If you are using braided line as your main line, I would tie a section of fluorocarbon line as your leader (4 to 8 feet long) by using a strong knot of your choice, then tie the Croc spoon to your leader. It is best not to use a swivel to connect your main line to the leader when lure fishing. The swivel doesn't allow you to reel your lure closer to your rod tip for casting. The lure itself already has a swivel on it to prevent line twisting so it shouldn't be an issue.

Great Video! He usually gracefully loses the fish so today it is your turn...LoL Wonderful Video! I fly fish only and it was good to see a single hook on spoons..
@FishingwithRod10 жыл бұрын
Ken Martin Thanks! I haven't touched a treble hook since the mid 90s. In this province, single barbless hooks are required for all moving waters in BC. For lakes, trebles are still allowed to be used in some lakes while lakes managed as quality catch and release fisheries like this one are restricted to single barbless hooks as well. Most people like myself pretty much just avoid treble and barbed hooks completely as they are a hassle to use. With that said, a single hook on a spoon can still be deadly to a fish if the hook gap is too large. That's something I'll be emphasizing in future videos on spoon fishing.

Hi Charles, Ross Lake has some brook trout which are not native to the area. These brook trout come from a few lakes on the US side which drain into Ross Lake. You'll find them mixed in with the native bull trout. We were fishing in the Skagit Valley Provincial Park, around the campsites.

Hey I have a question for you man do you put some weight when are you using spoons to cast or not thanks
@FishingwithRod Жыл бұрын
No additional weights. :) Casting spoons are designed to be cast by themselves as they are heavy enough. Trolling spoons on the other hand, weigh very little so they are primarily designed to be trolled, but you can also add weights to cast trolling spoons if you wish to. My preference is casting spoons. I want to minimize the amount of terminal tackle on my line.

I got a feeling that you lost fish not because you did not set the hook hard enough. I think that since you are using braid line, you should loose the drag a bit to compensate for the lack of stretch. That way, once the fish is hooked and it start to shake you wont lose it.

@FishingwithRod10 жыл бұрын
ZamaniSahib That depends on what you want to use it for. For the type of fishing that we are doing in this video, a 10 to 12 ft long boat is comfortable for two people. Make sure the boat has two anchors, one on the front and one on the back so your boat does not rotate when anchoring in the wind. I prefer using an electric motor so I can cruise to the spot without spooking the fish I want to catch.

G'day Rod, love your videos mate, trout fishing is my one love but australia doesn't have quite as good fisheries as Canada. :( although we do do our best! Is that a Daiwa Presso rod?

Matthew Woods Thanks! Canada might have some of the best freshwater fisheries in the world but it's hard to beat Australia's King George whiting, silver trevally and snapper along the Southern estuaries, or the large pelagics like yellowtail king fish and queenies along the North Eastern Coast. The rod is a Daiwa Spinmatic-C, similar to a Presso except a bit lighter I think.

Hi Shawn, that's just a personal habit actually. I usually like to pull some line out to allow the lure sink a bit more without dragging it back toward me. I guess the other way of doing it would be to leave the bail open some more, but my way looks cooler. ;)

Need to use snap swivels (not barrel), slow your speed, switch to a siwash hook (hook up is the same, less damage to fish, and allows you to stay on the bottom). Vary your retrieve, add some pops but keep the line taught. Add a meal worm and jig it. Remove the hook, use the spoon as a flasher and tie a fly on the back. Never go over 1/8 oz for trout.
