This will be my third winter seriously running. I definitely prefer training in the most miserable weather possible. I don't know what it is but it's way harder for me to go out in warm summer morning than in wet, cold, dark December mornings. One of my best runs I did in rain, hail or snow. I highly recommend that to everyone. The look on people faces (or wild life because they are equally surprised) during the run and feeling of accomplishment afterwards are priceless.

I started running this year with lockdown and my main objective for this year is to keep running as it gets colder. Did my first run (long run) in steady cold rain yesterday and actually enjoyed it so fingers crossed.

You’ve got this! And be kind to yourself on days when you bail on your run. Getting out the door is always the worst/hardest part on a cold rainy day. I always resist and I always enjoy it when I get out there! You might think I would learn...

Brooks makes nice gloves that have touchscreen fingertips and little magnets that lock them together when you’re not wearing them, making it less likely to lose one. They’re not the warmest but good enough for most chilly days. I also have a pair of Smartwool gloves that can be used either as a liner or by themselves. For calf sleeves I’ve been recommending Rockay, and I especially love the EcoWhite color (it’s actually silvery w/black highlights) because the fabric is softer than the dyed versions. Very high quality and worth paying a little more for them than cheaper options.

Two weeks ago it was borderline too hot to run and now I'm debating gloves on my morning runs, long sleeves pulled down over my hands are working okay.

have you ever tried any Patagonia stuff? I have found some things that are really amazing and very durable. It's also a good company and they will fix your clothes if you ever have an issue with them. I'd say their "dry fit" shirts/long sleeves to be the best. They market the running stuff as trail running for some reason

Just started buying some autumn/winter clothing. The Nike Swift Running trousers are good, relaxed fit at the top and tight from knee down. The Compressport UTB Running hoodie is really lite, close fitting and yet still warm. I think your right about starting to focus more on base building and hopefully 21 we can start to get ready for racing (hopefully 🙏)

I have a pullover from Janji I've been really enjoying this fall. I have Polartech Power Stretch gloves too, but I always wish they blocked wind. I'd like to find something equally as thin that could stop wind. I'm good to go on winter gloves, but fall gloves seem to be an elusive quest for me.

I don't need gloves all winter but as soon as it drops below 18°C I need a headband or my ears will start hurting from the "cold". Guess we all have our weekspots lol The Rainrunner from Janji would be exactly what I'm looking for if it was black 😬 glad to see a sustainable brand focus on running though.

FYI, Kofuzi’s neck gaiter is double-thickness making it more protective from a Covid standpoint in addition to being warmer. However, on me it’s not narrow enough to stay up over my nose, so if you have a smaller face/head, take note. I’m happy having the warmth on my neck and holding it over my face if and when I encounter other people.

When it's below 50 my hands will start to ache during a run if they aren't covered. I have some really thin New Balance gloves that work with touchscreens and are just warm enough to get me through most runs.

I need some kind of reflective gear for fall, does anyone have tips for something affordable to use when running? I need to cross a road to get to the trail, and people drive 70km/h without looking/stopping if anyone's about to cross it so gotta be visible to not be run over lol really, running during fall in sweden is like "oh it's still/already dark. shit it's so windy. oh noo my shoes are already muddy. that tree looks like it's gonna fall from the wind. wait why am I so damp? oh, its raining" seriously miss the summer haha

Would you still recommend the dr.skin tights from amazon. I remember you really liking them for the price. I was going to pick some up because they make full length and 3/4 length tights. They also make singlet style racer back tank tops I've been looking at (it seems a few companies make this same style tank with their branding on what looks to be the same shirt) they come in a bunch of bright colors and are like $20 for 3 tanks. My idea is to buy some to wear over long sleeve stuff I already have that is black/gray (most of my running is done at 5am in the dark), then I can use the tank tops by themselves once the warmer weather comes back.

What do you think about lighted vests such as the tracer360 or the amphipod? I run early mornings and fight the light during the summer. In the Fall and Winter, it gets down right dangerous. I think that I want a vest that glows, not just reflects and can't find any good reviews.
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 4 жыл бұрын
i've never run in them myself, but i've seen them many times. i think they work great. personally, i prefer a headlamp. cars behind me can usually see it (i think), and if anyone coming to me from the side at an intersection isn't paying attention, i can turn my head and the light towards the driver to ensure that the light flickers to get their attention

Do you recommend any beanies for keeping your head/ears warm while running???
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 4 жыл бұрын
I usually don’t need it until it gets more consistently in the freezing temp range. But I spend most of the year running in a knit cap or beanie. I’ve used everything from a balaclava to a beanie with a pom on top. A running specific knit cap isn’t strictly necessary
@vaxick
@vaxick 4 жыл бұрын
Brooks Notch thermal beanie is fantastic for cold runs. I've been happy with that hat on well into the single digits. It's very thin which is a huge plus as you can wear it in the fall too without your head heating up too much, and if you happen to have a big head, it'll fit it with room to spare unlike a lot of running beanies that are on the shorter.

@mkhartnett
@mkhartnett 4 жыл бұрын
I agree that even the cheap stuff lasts forever. I run outside everyday in Minnesota winters. I have a couple super warm pants for the coldest days and they are 10+ years old. Shirts and Jacket are the same. Socks are the only thing I kind of go through a lot of now.
@wnsbug
@wnsbug 4 жыл бұрын
do you wash your running clothes after every run? I wash them after every workout cuz of the sweat, but what happens if the clothes get thicker for the season? do you wash your jacket too?
@mkhartnett
@mkhartnett 4 жыл бұрын
My own opinion, is no. I don't wash after every run. Pants can last a couple runs. Shirts are good for a run or....if you are double layering, the closer to the body layer gets washed, the outer layer turns into the next to the body layer and get a new outer layer shirt. Jackets get washed once a month payment.

It isn’t self explanatory. Many times, I get reimbursement offers (typically so a purchase can be considered a verified purchase). If I’m getting reimbursed later, I wouldn’t consider that to be a purchase with my own money. Nor would I consider it a purchase with my own money if someone sent me money to go buy something.
