Fall & Winter Clothes Shopping ║ Large Family Shop with Me │ October 2017

This month our pantry is overflowing with home canned food, so we're shopping light. However, it's time to stock up on clothes for the fall and winter seasons. Miss Eden tags along since we need to pick out several clothing items for her. We shop once a month at Walmart to get household items and a small amount of food. (We do the bulk of our food shopping at our small, local grocery store on a weekly basis. We also have a garden and order bulk items from www.azurestandard.com.) As a homeschool/home business/ home church family of 10, we feed a lot of people each month. We produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,700 servings of food in our little kitchen. Switching to making a Walmart trip to once a month rather than once a week has cut our Walmart spending in half without us sacrificing anything on our shopping list. (What in the world were we buying there before?!) As for clothes, we set aside $100-$150 a month in savings so we have money to spend when it's time to buy clothes.

Patti Telfer Yes we do. All our major supermarkets have clothing ranges and they're usually very reasonably priced. I've bought a lot of stuff in Tesco - particularly for my grandsons. Matalan is another huge store that sells loads of clothing. It's interesting that you think they're cheap, Patti, as I always thought clothes were pretty reasonably priced in the States?

Eden is such a great help and it is nice to have this Mother and daughter time because Eden is growing up so fast. I hope she will always want to go with you. I am sure she will as you have such a close knit loving family each one wanting to do their part to help.Wen you shop it reminds me of my days as an elementary school cafeteria manager. We fed 270 to 300 children a day with a five choices for entrees. When I retired and was just cooking for my husband and I, I would look in the pot of whatever I was fixing and think ...this isn't going to go anywhere and add to it. It took quite awhile to learn to cook for 2. Now this past year and a half I have been cooking for one and any times call my son to come and pick up some dinner on the way home. hahaha. Yep...it is sill difficult. Y'all have a Blessed day.

Andrea, I have 5 boys also & I just LOVE Old Navy jeans. When they go on sale it's like for $10 & then another 30-40% off with their credit card. I got 10 pair of 18husky for Damien for around $55. He's 11 but the biggest & they pass down well to the next who is 13. Great yard sale value too as well as donationability.

I might try to do some of those recipes in the future. Once I get the pantry back in order, I'll film a once over to end our garden vlogs for the season. We picked our crab apples yesterday which was the last of what we needed to harvest. Even though our garden did terrible, our total production still came in at around 500 pounds of produce over the season! (Plus dad gave us 200 pounds of pears.) There's a light dusting of snow on the ground this morning and the season is truly coming to an end.

Have you ever considered getting some of the boys shirts in stripe patterns to let them experience change? They would still be dressed in matching colors. Also, maybe 1 day a week where they could dress in clothes that aren't uniform shirts (maybe different tshirts (that they each choose). Just suggestions that i thought about (since I watch all of your vlogs faithfully.

They seem to be allowed to dress differently whenever they want - you see one different every now and then in the videos. Lots of kids like dressing like their friends or siblings though.

I know for people who don't do what we do, it seems as if the kids are longing to dress differently, but it's just not the case. Recently Tom's mom took them shopping and, when given a choice of anything in the store, they all ended up picking things that matched at least one of their siblings. Now that they have those clothes, most of them don't wear them. Not because they're not allowed to, but because they just don't care. In fact, they wanted to donate several of the items they got because they only chose them because they felt obligated. I hope it's clear that we don't dominate our children and force them to do things they don't want to do. They genuinely enjoy dressing alike; if they didn't, we wouldn't do it.

I have a video on my Popular Uploads playlist that explains how matching clothes got started. The polos are just because we need to maintain small wardrobes for everyone and polos are very versatile being both casual and a little dressy so they're appropriate attire in most circumstances.

Justus is learning to do the laundry and things weren't going smoothly. About half the kids were wearing lime that day because they didn't have the right color. We're getting things back on track, though. :)

Yvonne Johnson I am not sure on their polos but I do know about socks! They have a color system(each child has a color that is on many things to identify ownership) and she uses sharpies to mark the inside of the socks with each color. She has a biyearly shopping haul video that shows how she does it.

You've already got the scoop on the socks, so I'll just add that the girls' polos are made for girls. They're a more form-fitting cut, have shorter sleeves and longer button plackets.
