One of the reasons why LA lost its sound was because these days social media everyone can get anything from all places in the world in the 80’s and 90’s west coast rap and East coast rap sounded different and people from those places dressed differently because they had there own style and culture nowadays if someone from Chicago and LA can both dress the same and have the same sounding music because social media allowed people to see how other cities and places are and we can all copy and look the same now.

It's sad to know you can't enjoy life as an artist without worrying about ppl coming for your head. That's everywhere, not just LA. You don't see dumb shit like this in other forms of entertainment. Only in Hip Hop, we can't get a break from the streetoriensed bullshit, because we still live off of the pain and excess of the street life, although Hip Hop was supposed to be the way out. It's become a trap within a trap.

Would like your take on Memphis as a Fallen City. In the 90s, Memphis was one of the regional powerhouses along with Houston, New Orleans and Miami with its own rendition of G-Funk and gangsta, essentially creating crunk and is a major inspiration behind phonk music. The city's recently beginning to get it's shine but its sound nowadays is just what's popular rn.
@JayFingers2 жыл бұрын
I second this. Memphis truly had the potential to be Atlanta before Atlanta, thanks to its pioneering sound and bevy of talented artists. You should do a Bay Area fallen city video. The Bay Area has lost its relevance for a number of reasons. Gentrification has cleaned up many ghetto areas in the Bay that used to produce dozens of prolific rappers, particularly areas in San Francisco like Hunters Point, Fillmoe and Lakeview as well as the aggressive gentrification of Oakland. Street rap, that was the lifeblood of the underground rap scene in the Bay Area in the 90’s, is no longer relevant in a city like San Francisco where there’s hardly any black people left in the city and violent crime is at historic lows. Other former hotbeds of underground street Rap in the Bay like East Palo Alto, Richmond and Vallejo are now also relatively quiet. Also, the Bay has come to emulate other regions that it originally influenced. There is no doubt Detroit’s Rap scene was originally influenced by the Bay sound of the 80’s and 90’s that was pioneered by Too $hort and E-40. But Detroit has put its own spin on the Bay sound making their own sound. Now up and coming Bay rappers have taken the modified Detroit sound because it’s basically an update of the classic Bay sound. Underground rappers from the Bay who go viral can never transition to mainstream success. Lil Pete, SOB RBE and Larry June have all gone viral with millions of views on KZbin and slight major pop culture exposure moments without major label co-signs in the past five or so years. But they can never break into mainstream success and become household names. Bay Area Rap has struggled with this since the 80’s. The two most well known and respected Bay Area rappers of all time are Too $hort and E-40. Many underground Bay Area legends remain relatively unknown in the mainstream despite being very influential and talented. Many legendary underground Bay Area rappers are killed like the late Jacka who was killed in 2015. Bay Area slang and culture is highly influential, but proper credit is never given. East Bay sideshow culture has recently spread to Los Angeles, Detroit and even as far as Baltimore, yet it is hardly acknowledged that this is Bay Area culture. In L.A., sideshow culture has been relabeled as “street takeovers”.

Do Stunted Growth on Tupac and why you think Tupac is the greatest rapper of all time
@Cartman-Official2 жыл бұрын
The Games music sounds west coast while Kendricks not so much tbh. TPAB had funk influence that album might be the only one. Also YG should get a mention, He had two great albums in a row and actually had ppl sounding like LA for a while.

Bro... Several of your points about LA are just downright ridiculous. Now, one thing I can say is yes... Street Politics did plague the city and interfere into the rap scene somewhat. But, the other stuff are either 50 / 50 or wrong.

LA has a signature sound. Two actually. Our Sound now is artists like: Dom Kennedy, G Perico, Joey Fatts, Westside Boogie, TDE, OverDoz, Vince staples, Casey Veggies etc Then our other sound is our turnup bay influenced sound RJ, YG, Blueblucks Clan, Azchike, shoreline mafia, Dreako, 03 Greedo, 1takejay Our problem is that the city isn’t uniform, never will be LA is about sections. South Central, Watts, Compton, Long Beach rep themselves not LA for the most part, so it’s really every person for themselves but it’s always been that way for the most part But talent is still here as Kendrick, Vince Staples and Westside Boogie albums all have top ten caliber rap albums of 2022

Wait. Tupac wasn’t from LA. You can make a case for Oakland but even that’s a stretch

2Pac became a West Coast rapper due to living in the Bay (Marin City) for a time, linking with the Bay Area rappers (Ray Luv, Digital Underground, Too Short, E40) and later with Death Row. But Pac is a New York/East Coast rapper.

@@p.j._staten nothing about him was Bay Area. Yeah he lived there for a time, but putting him in that west coast category is like I said. A stretch

So we’re just going to ignore the fact that YG and Mustard had one of the hottest, definitively west coast sounds of the 2010’s on a mainstream level? LA’s sound is alive but more underground rn as you say. The southern sound & chi drill is just too dominant and has been for quite a while.
